Shadoe Stevens: "Get ready for the ultimate test of guts and glory...
4 contestants 21 floors 42 possibilities but ultimately, only 1 player left standing in the lobby as the Champion! This is the... ...and now, the host of our show...Glen Brown!" (applause as the elevator door opens and I enter the studio) Thank you Shadoe, thanks ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the Tower Challenge! Behind me is our tower elevator that can take players to jubilation on one floor and heartache on the next. Our contestants initially have 12 decisions to make... which 6 floors will they visit and which sides of each of those floors (left or right) they select? When all is said and done, one crucial decision might determine which contestant wins the Tower Challenge and possibly becomes a multi-millionaire! (audience applauds) Speaking of contestants, let's meet two of them right now! Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Kevin and Patseen!! (audience applauds as the elevator door opens and they enter the studio -- they approach me and I shake their hands) Welcome to the Tower Challenge, gentlemen! Prior to the show, we drew the above random number to determine our seeding. Kevin, your guess of 550 was the second-closest to that number and as such, you are the #2 seed. Patseen, you were third-closest with your guess of 777 and you are the #3 seed. You two will face each other in the second Finalist Match a little later on. We'll ask you gentlemen to stand by in the Green Room here shortly, but first, Kevin, please tell us about yourself and what it would mean to you to possibly win millions of dollars on our show today?

Well, I'm an accountant from Long Island, New York and I like reading, writing and going to the gym.
If I won all that money, I know I'd be set for life. I'd move out of my house and do some traveling.

For sure, with the kind of loot we're talking about here, you could travel the world and the only books you'd have to account for would be your own! It's a pleasure to have you with us Kevin and good luck to you.
Your opponent is Patseen Punsiri and Patseen, I understand that you recently took a fall and hurt your leg -- I hope you are recovering from that. Please tell us how you're doing and what you'd do with the millions you might end up as a Tower Challenge champion.

Well, thanks. I'm a high school 'and' university student from Bangkok, Thailand, a nice country. If I win, I would... travel around the world and eat mountains, I mean delicious foods.

That's interesting, Patseen -- up here in Canada where I'm from, we usually go to high school first and then university, not both at the same time.
Well, it's wonderful to have you here from Thailand and good luck to you as well. As I mentioned earlier, you and Kevin will face off in the second Finalist Match, but for now, we'll have you both head backstage to our Green Room until we're ready for your match. Let's here it for Kevin and Patseen, ladies and gentlemen! (audience applauds as they walk behind the set and out of the shot)
Okay, we've met the gentlemen involved in our second match, so let's now meet the ones involved in the first match...please welcome Antonio and Sam to our stage! (audience applauds as the elevator door opens and they enter the studio -- they approach me and I shake their hands)
Antonio, Sam, I welcome you both to our show! Antonio has ended up as the #1 seed on our show by being off by only 8 from our random number and Sam is the #4 seed as his guess of 467 was the furthest from the number. We'd like to know a little something about you gentlemen and what you would do with millions as well before we proceed here, beginning with you please, Antonio.

I'm a caregiver for my grandmother from Wisconsin.

Sam, please tell us a bit about you and would you also travel the world with millions in the bank account?

So, traveling is what everyone would do -- I have to agree, if I came into this kind of dough, I'd buy a big boat and sail around the world. It's a pleasure to have you here from Wales, Sam and best of luck to you as well.
Gentlemen, in each match, the higher seed gets the choice of setting the pace by playing first or taking a wait-and-see position and allowing his opponent to take on the Tower first. In the end, the floors themselves will determine what strategy is best.
Antonio, you are the top seed in this match, so it is your decision, sir. Would you like to start us off or will it be Sam who plays the opening game?

Okay, in that case Sam, we'll ask you to join Kevin and Patseen in the Green Room for now and you'll have your turn shortly. Let's give it up for Sam, ladies and gentlemen! (audience applauds as Sam walks behind the set and out of the shot) Music begins to playAntonio will be the first to take on the Tower...right after this commercial message...you're watching the Tower Challenge here on NGC! (fade in with applause and the wide angle zooming back in on Antonio and myself) We are back here with the Tower Challenge and Antonio, our caregiver from Wisconsin, will be the first to take it on. Antonio, the rules are pretty straightforward. You will choose 6 distinct floor numbers that the elevator will stop on and then for each of those floors, which side of the floor (left or right) you wish to select. The elevator will then proceed to your chosen floors in the order you chose them and we will reveal the hidden value behind whichever side you selected. Your earnings are adjusted accordingly. We then look at the other side of that floor to see what you have eliminated from play by not choosing it, which sometimes can be good and sometimes can be costly. After that, we proceed to the next floor you chose. You must visit at least 3 floors before you can decide to stop and take the money you currently have. If you prefer, you can risk that amount by continuing on and visiting the final 3 floors that you selected, which might improve your total dramatically or possibly wipe you out. Now, there are some special selections that override these rules. The 4 spaces marked "Random" earn you a DO-OVER card of which there are 2 types. Random 1, 2 and 3 earn you a normal DO-OVER card, valid only for your current game and redeemable up to and including your 5th chosen floor. With this card in your possession and providing that you use it in time, you can abandon your current game and start it over, meaning we will reset the board, reset your current game score back to zero and you choose another 6 floors. The same applies to the space marked "Random 4", except that one is the ULTIMATE DO-OVER card, which you can keep with you and use at any time in the tournament, including to replay the entire game from your current match should your opponent's total exceed yours. The last special space is a deadly one marked "GAME OVER". If you select that space at any time in the tournament, you basically lose everything. You lose any winnings you are carrying forward from a previous match, you immediately lose any DO-OVER cards you currently possess and of course, you lose your current game (assuming that your opponent also doesn't select "GAME OVER" in his half of the match, in which case two GAME OVERs equals a tie and we replay the match). So Antonio, if you have any questions before we proceed, now's the time to ask them, otherwise please tell us your 6 floor selections in the format #L or #R (where # is a number from 1 to 21 and L means the left side of the floor and R means the right side) and we'll step into the elevator and send it on its way.

Ok, let's step into the elevator and select those floors... (click click click click click click) ...and it's a short hop up to the 2nd floor... ...and for your first selection Antonio, you took the right side of this floor...and for that, we start off with... ...ONE MILLION DOLLARS!!!! WOW!! Antonio, that was a 1 in 42 chance and you found it!!!! What a start! Let's see what you've eliminated on this floor... Wow, your first two picks are the two biggest dollar amounts on the board! Well, you picked the correct side of that floor, that's for sure! Excellent start Antonio despite eliminating the half-million...up we go now to the 10th floor... ...where once again, you chose the right side of the floor, which this time around nets you...
...another sixty-four thousand dollars and that's 3 of the 5 largest dollars amounts that you've found right off the bat!! Across the hall on this floor, what did we have? ...only one grand! Great picks so far Antonio!! Let's head on up to the 12th floor... ...where this time, you took the left side of the floor. Switching from right to left on this floor gives you... ...AN ADDITIONAL TEN MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!! WOW!!! Antonio, those were three terrific picks right there! What's on the other side of the 12th floor I wonder? Are you kidding me? With your first three floors, you've accumulated over eleven million dollars and now, you've gotten rid of the GAME OVER!!
Wow, so what this means Antonio is that you can safely visit the remaining 3 floors if you wish, knowing that you'll make it all the way through them. Your biggest enemy right now are those 4 negative percentages, one of which would set you back to zero. Of course, one tempting space still in play is the "Add a 0" which would turn your eleven million into over one hundred million dollars!! The 4 positive percentages still in play could substantially increase your total as well.
What do you think, Antonio? Is $11,064,000 enough or shall we visit the final 3 floors?

I'm reminded right now of what Janice said to Bob on "The Price is Right" when Brian gave back the $5,000 on the Punchboard and went for it...she said "he's a gambling man" and so are you Antonio, although this ain't no five grand we're talking about here! It worked out for Brian though, so let's see if it does for you as well. Okay, here we go...next stop is the 6th floor... (bing bing) By the way, I forgot to put in the sound effect and audience references yesterday, but rest assured, the crowd went wild over your picks!! You chose the right side of this floor Antonio, let's see what that brings you... (bling) (audience oooooos) Well, it's a whopping 35 bucks, but more importantly, it's also a DO-OVER card! (audience applauds) So Antonio, the rules state that I must ask you this at this time, which probably equates to the most ridiculous question ever asked, but here goes...
Would you like to give up your 11+ million dollars and start over? (audience laughs)

Yeah, I didn't think so. Before we move on, let's see what was across the hall on this floor... (bling) It's the -100%!!!! (audience cheers) These are amazing picks you've made here, Antonio! The worst you could get now would be the -75% so this guarantees you're going to finish this game with millions of dollars as your score! Okay, now comes floor #13, which some would have avoided for superstitious reasons... (ding ding) ...but you did not. You chose the left side of this floor and 13L gives you...
(bling) ...ANOTHER HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FIVE GRAND!!!!!!! (audience cheers!!!)
This is an incredible run you're on here Antonio!! Let's see what was eliminated here on the 13th floor... (bling) ...well, just 8 dollars! The way you're playing, I'd have bet it was gonna be the -75%!! (audience chuckles)
Well Antonio, still over $11 million up there, but this is your last chance to start over because the DO-OVER card expires once we leave this floor. I bet Sam sure wants you to use it, so how about it, let's go back to the lobby and begin again, sound good? What do you say, Antonio? (audience laughs)

Ok, we have one more floor to visit and that is the 9th floor... (ding ding) 75% of your current score is just under $8.4 million, so that's what's at stake right now!
You chose the left side of this floor -- can you dodge a bullet one more time?
(bling) (audience cheers and applauds) YOU SURE CAN!!!!!! AN ADDITIONAL 50% OF YOUR SCORE BRINGS YOUR TOTAL TO JUST OVER $16.7 MILLION!!!! Antonio, my goodness, what an amazing run you've had! 6 consecutive terrific picks and you are by far in the driver's seat in this match!! Congratulations!! Let's see what you eliminated by not choosing the right side of the floor... (bling) ...just chump change on that side of the 9th! Unbelievable run of luck there Antonio -- let's head back down to the lobby and make it official... (ding ding) (audience continues to applaud as Antonio and I step out of the elevator as the door closes behind us) Antonio, let's review shall we? The $1,000,000 right off the bat, followed soon after by the "Add a 1" and you were able to eliminate both the "GAME OVER" and the "-100%" spaces!! I honestly didn't think we'd see this high of a total on this show, but here it is in black and white... (ding) Here's the thing about this show though, Antonio...you've haven't won even a dime yet. You have to hope that Sam doesn't exceed that total in his half of this first Finalist Match and, if you do go on to win, that you avoid the "GAME OVER" space once again in your subsequent matches. For now at least, you're sitting pretty with that total!!
Congratulations Antonio!! We'll send you off to the Green Room for now where you can wait and see what your next match will be...give it up for Antonio ladies and gents! (audience applauds as Antonio walks towards backstage and out of the shot) Music begins to playWhat an amazing start to our show, folks! The question now is...can Sam top that performance? We'll find out after this commercial message! Stay tuned, you're watching the Tower Challenge here on NGC! (continuing applause from the audience with the camera zooming out and fading to black)

(fade in with applause as the camera zooms in on Sam and I standing next to the elevator) Welcome back to the Tower Challenge everyone! We have just witnessed how generous the tower can be sometimes and I'm standing next to a man who hopes that generosity continues. Sam, I guess the attitude you need to take is "anything he can do, I can do better", right? How are you feeling after watching Antonio rack up that impressive 8-digit score?

Yeah, I haven't quite done the math to the exact dollar, but I think if you were lucky enough to choose the correct 6 spaces in the correct order, your total could be somewhere near $500,000,000 (half a billion) but the odds of that are lottery-type odds!!
Ok Sam, Antonio did $16+ million, let's see if you can do $17+ million! How amazing would that be after Antonio's performance!?!
Good luck to you, sir! When you're ready, please give me your 6 floors along with L or R for each of the floors.
