We're about to start our 12th episode of Hot Dice. Before we commence, a few notes are in order...
\ Matt Ringgenberg returns with three match wins and $122,900. If he can win this and the next match, he retires undefeated and wins a new car.
\ We're looking for his challenger. The player closest to the right answer, high or low, challenges Matt.
And here's the question.
Before the show, Candice -- one of our dice girls from Crag: The Numbers Game, one of our sister shows -- rolled a pair of money dice five times. The numbers 1 through 6 were replaced with, respectively, a penny, a nickel, a dime, a quarter, a half dollar and a dollar. How much money did she score with the money dice? Please respond in dollars and cents.
This game operates on 24-hour deadlines. Please PM me your answer in 24 hours from now.

Everyone's answers are in. Let's go to the video tape and see how much money she racked up. (tape of Candice rolling money dice rolls) (Candice rolls)OK, she starts off with a quarter and a half dollar for 75¢. (Candice rolls)Got a quarter and a nickel this time. She's up to a buck five. (Candice rolls)Heh -- double nickels -- literally. Candice now has a buck 15. (Candice rolls)Almost doubled her money. Candice has two twenty with one roll to go. (Candice rolls)And she gets nickeled and dimed for the last roll -- giving her a total of two big ones and 35 little ones. (ding)Hope she doesn't spend it all in one place. Who's the closest? $3.82 billmcdeeLook at me. I'm welcoming Bill McDee to the dice table. For the record, Bill helps write chains on The $40,000 Chain Reaction, another sister show, but doesn't write for Hot Dice. With that disclosure out of the way, let's pause for station identification.
Announcer: ABC and KAQY -- the ones to watch in Ark-La-Miss. (drum roll)Doug (in pre-recorded audio): His name is Matt Ringgenberg. To date, he has won three matches and amassed a cash total of $122,900.If he wins two more matches, he will retire undefeated and win a brand new Mercedes-Benz E550 Cabriolet. Find out if his winning ways continue on Hot Dice. (cue opening sequence; theme plays)More that a million dollars in cash prizes are waiting to be won at the dice table on -- Hot Dice. (audience cheers)Helloooo, everybody. I'm Doug Morris -- welcoming you back to the dice table. This is where all the magic happens. In addition to big cash prizes, someone this week could drive out of here in a Mercedes. (audience cheers) You just met Matt Ringgenberg, the champ. Let's meet his challenger... ...Bill McDee. (audience cheers) Bill, welcome aboard. Please tell us about yourself.

Sounds like you live a great, full and rich life. Good luck to you, Bill. And Matt, good luck to you.
You've won more than $120,000 on our show. Let's say you keep winning big, wrap up your reign winning that new Mercedes -- and then plan a dream road trip. Where would you want to go in your Mercedes?

Maybe Florida or California.

Wanting to explore the rest of California after you drive it out of here in Rancho Cucamonga, eh? Or possibly Florida. (ding)Again, best of luck to you both. Time to start Game 1 of a new match. This game has six rounds and a catch-up round. Until we reach the catch-up round, each round starts with a toss-up question. Winner of the question gets a free roll of the dice. From there, the player has a chance to build up a pot of money on every additional roll of the dice. Of course, there are risks and surprises with doubles to come along the way. We'll talk about those later. But for now, here's the first toss-up question. Kirk, McCoy or Spock. What famous pediatrician has been confused with a character from "Star Trek"? 04 billmcdee 19 mringgenberg 25 randomizer.org(Matt buzzes in)Matt?

(scattered applause) Everyone likes that answer -- because Matt's right. (more applause) Matt, you've just earned a free roll of the dice. Go ahead and take it please. (Matt rolls)And you start off with a 1 and a 6 -- which total 7. At $100 a point, you're starting with $700. Now, as you know, anytime you roll a 7 outside of the free roll, that's a bust -- meaning you lose everything in the pot and you score nothing for the round. Rolling anything but a 7 adds the roll's value in hundreds of dollars to the kitty. And if you roll a double outside of the free roll, there's a double decision to consider -- playing the roll as normal or going to the corresponding screen on the board. Those doubles screens hide thousands of dollars in cash, some surprises, some paltry payoffs and even the word "bust" -- which acts as if you rolled a 7. Right now -- do you want to bank the $700 -- or risk that money and roll again? (audience shouts suggestions)

I do believe he took gold in that Doug.

Post by dougmorrisontheair on Feb 20, 2015 8:39:51 GMT -5
You believe correctly, Bill. (audience applause) Gold is right. First free roll for you comes now. (Bill rolls)And starting off with a 7. As I alluded to earlier, you're immune from busting on the free roll -- so we do start you off with $700. The next 7 in this round will count as a bust. We've had nothing but sevens so far -- even though it's early. Bill, want to roll 'em or bank? (audience shouts suggestions)

This will perhaps prove unpopular, but I'm simply going to bank $700 here.

That's right, they stared at goats. (audience applause) Before the show, one of our writer asked if I had any good goat puns -- and I say, "Nahhhhhh." (scattered groans) (Bill rolls)(scattered cheers) From my groaner to Bill's $1000 roll. Now, Bill, no double decision to make on the free roll. But the next double in this round does trigger a double decision. A 7 still busts you out of the round. Bank the grand or take the dice in hand? (audience shouts suggestions)

It was "Survivor". Right again, Bill. (audience applause) Free roll is yours again. (Bill rolls)And you're starting with a 6 for $600. Bank the moolah -- or live a little and roll again? (audience shouts suggestions)

(scattered cheers) Bill banks more money. (ding) Challenger's up to $3100 in this game. Matt, the champ, still has yet to score. As you can see by the board, we're nearing the end of the game. We had a player on the last show bank more than $8000 in one round. So anything's still possible -- as we play this Round 5 toss-up question. Ear, snout or udder. According to an old saying, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's -- what? 36 billmcdee 28 mringgenberg 45 randomizer.org(Bill buzzes in)Bill?
