Definition Theme Song(part of the rendition of Quincy Jones' "Soul Bassa Nova" made by the saxophone octet Art'Sax - artsax.com) (announcer Dave Devall)
Definition:
Directions to the Chinese restaurant.
Solution?
Wok this way. (audience groans)
And our solution to fun with a pun on NGC is...
(audience applauds) And stepping into view is the host of our show...Glen Brown! (audience continues applauding, I emerge from the back of the studio, standing at a podium between our two seated contestants)
Thank you, Dave, thank you ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Definition! My thanks also to Doug Morris who provided us with that opening pun. We'll have another one of Doug's definitions later in the show. Right now though, let's welcome our two challengers, beginning with Mr. Raymond Weaver! (audience applauds) Since this is our first episode of Definition we have no defending champion, so we flipped a coin backstage and Raymond won the toss, meaning he will begin the game here in a moment but Raymond, please tell the folks a little bit about yourself before we begin.

A national doughnut shop, huh? Well, we might have to ask you to cater the after-show party then -- gotta love doughnuts!
Welcome Raymond and good luck to you! Our second challenger today is Mr. Matt Ringgenberg! (audience applauds)
Welcome to you as well, Matt! What would you care to tell us about yourself, sir?

Well, between you and Raymond, we're covered food-wise for the after-show party, that's for sure. I'll bring the beverages and we'll be all set! Welcome again to Definition, gents. We play 3 games in order to determine which of you will wind up as our initial defending champion. It will be the one of you with the most money at the end of those 3 games. That person plays our bonus round and returns on our next show to defend his title. Game 1 is worth $2,000; Game 2 is worth $3,000; Game 3 is worth $5,000. In addition, you receive $100 for every unrevealed letter that was still on the board when you solved the puzzle. Since Raymond won the toss, he will start us off. On each turn, the idea is to give a letter away that you think is not in the puzzle and then take a letter that you think is in the puzzle. If you're right, that letter will light up in as many places as it is in on the board and then you can guess at the solution. If the letter you take isn't there, your turn ends with no guess at the puzzle. If the letter you initially gave away actually is there, your turn ends, your opponent gets a free guess at the solution and then takes his normal turn. We keep going back and forth like this until someone solves the puzzle. When it's time to actually take a guess at the puzzle, you will have 24 hours to respond, otherwise that will count as "time's up" and it'll then be your opponent's turn. That's how we play Definition, so let's get into the match with our $2,000 game. (announcer Dave Devall) Definition: What Dad did after building the water slide. Raymond, if you know it right now, you'd get $3,500 for it since all the letters are currently unrevealed. The puzzle value will decrease by $100 with each revealed letter. This puzzle has 6 words totaling 15 letters as identified by the dashes in the middle of the board. So Raymond, you can either solve the puzzle immediately or give a letter away that you think is NOT in the puzzle.

Raymond gives away the Z and that's a good choice as there is no Z in the puzzle. He then takes an H -- also good as there is one H that goes here... (ding) For $3,400 Raymond, do you know what Dad did after building the water slide?

Matt gives away the X and there is no X. As for taking a T, there is one T at the end of the third word. (ding) For $3,300 Matt, can you tell us what Dad did after building the water slide?

Yeah, not enough letters revealed for a good guess yet, is there.
Raymond, give a letter away, please.

Another good giveaway for Raymond and an even better take with a couple of letters revealed this time. (ding ding) Raymond, what did Dad do after building that water slide?

Good choices for Matt as well, eliminating the J and picking up an R in the 5th and 6th words. (ding ding) For $2,900 Matt, can you tell us what Dad did after building the water slide?

Matt gives away the V and that was not a good choice I'm afraid as there is a V in the second word, here... (ding) So that ends Matt's turn and gives Raymond a free guess at the puzzle. Raymond, for $2,700, do you know what Dad did after building the water slide?

That is exactly what he did! He gave that water slide a dry run! Raymond solves that puzzle for $2,700! (audience groans at the puzzle and then applauds Raymond) (ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding) So it is Raymond taking advantage of Matt giving him that V and Raymond takes the initial lead! The person trailing always starts Games 2 and 3, so Matt you will have the first go at our next definition which is another one brought to us courtesy of Doug Morris! Since Doug's definition has 21 letters total in it, our Game 2 puzzle will initially be worth $5,100!
We'll set up the board and start Game 2 right after this! (applause and fade out)
