Welcome back my friends to the dice game that ends up in a big payoff -- or so we hope. It's episode 14 of Hot Dice.
Bill McDee returns with two wins and $39,350 in cash winnings. We're seeking his challenger. It could be you -- if you're the closest to the right answer, high or low, to this qualifying question.
On June 12, 2011, at 9:30am Central, we watched a GSN rerun of "Family Feud". Two members of the winning family did not reach the goal of 200 points in Fast Money. Their consolation prize was how much? Please respond in increments of $5.
This game operates on 24-hour deadlines. Please PM me in your answer in 24 hours from now. Thanks.

Well, my name is Frank Driscoll, I'm from El Cerrito, California. I am 16 years old. I am a fan of all game shows in general, and when I get older I want to be a broadcast journalist.

Ah, well the best of luck to you in your pursuit of broadcast journalism -- and good luck here on Hot Dice.
And we also wish good luck to Bill McDee, our returning champion as well. Bill, you ran into some tough luck in the Bonus Bonanza -- losing your gold coins quickly but winning a shade under $5000. Ready to give it a go?

I am indeed Doug, and heck $4,750 bonus money is nothing to sneeze at, even though it is allergy season. And to all my "booing" fans from the last 2 episodes, I know my conservative play wasn't very popular, but alas, I am still here, and raring to go!

Well, we'll see if you keep up that conservative strategy continues -- or if you put more money on the line. (ding)Bill, Frank, we're about to start Game 1. It has six rounds and a catch-up round. Until that catch-up round, each round starts with a toss-up question worth a free roll of the dice. From there, you try to build up a pot of money. Here comes your Round 1 question. Well in my own case.... Just teasing. It is below the nose

It is below the nose. You're right. (audience applause) All right, Bill, your third match starts with your free roll. (Bill rolls) Dice total 5. At $100 a point, we start with $500 in the pot. Bill, as you know, until a new round starts, every roll comes with a risk. If you roll a 7, you bust. That means you lose everything in the pot and you score nothing for the round. We also have this double decision board now in play. If you throw a double, you'll have the option of making that roll worth its value in hundreds of dollars -- or try to improve upon that by going to the corresponding screen on the double decision board. Those screens hide thousands of dollars in cash, some surprises and not so good surprises. Includes therein is the word "bust" -- which acts as if you rolled a 7. Right now, you may end the round here and bank $500 -- or risk this money in the pot and try for more. (audience shouts suggestions)

My strategy has been if it's $800 or more to bank, therefore I'm going to roll again.

(Bill rolls)(a few woahs) Yeah -- almost went bust. But 8's safe. The pot's up to $1300. Are you staying true to strategy -- or are you going to live a little and roll again? (audience shouts suggestions)

There is one other thing, you ought to do, to thine own self be true. Banking the $1,300

Sticks, hence the name "Twig"gy BTW, check vacation thread. I probably won't be back on again until Thursday. Also BTW, if my first roll is 8 or higher, I'll bank, if it's 7 or lower, I'll roll again.

"Sticks" is right. (audience applause) Free roll again for you, Bill. (Bill rolls) And a 7. Normally a bust roll. But you can't bust on the free roll. So we do seed the pot with $700 -- and you look like you roll again. (Bill rolls)He does roll. (doubles cue; audience cheers)And he gets snake eyes. First double decision of the match is yours. Bill, you may play this normally and have us add $200 to the pot... ...or you may go to the double 1 screen on the board and see if there's something better. If there's money -- and it could be less than $200 in that screen -- we'll add that much to the pot. If there's a surprise, we'll follow the directions. If there's a bust, you lose the $700 and we start a new round. What's your pleasure? (audience shouts suggestions) [Per Bill's wishes, game's on hold.]

Great guess. Mu is right. (audience applause) As for what letter follows the lambada, it would probably be --- "ooohhhhh". (scattered laughter from the crowd) (Frank rolls) (audience cheers)Frank couldn't wait to roll -- and you're starting off big with a grand. Want to bank the thousand or roll again? (audience shouts suggestions)

Roll again

(Frank rolls)(doubles cue; audience cheers)Ah ha! Another 10 -- but this one triggers a double decision. Frank, you can make this roll normal -- meaning we'd add $1000 to the pot... ...or you may go to the double 5 screen on the board and see if there's something better. You've seen the worse the board has to offer. Is the double 5 screen offering something much better than a bust? That's for you to decide -- as you make your double decision. (audience shouts suggestions)

Right now, I think it is better to be safe then sorry, I'll take the thousand.

(scattered cheers) Playing it safe -- and that brings the pot up to $2000. A lot of moolah in the pot -- but could it have been worth more? What did you decline in the double 5 screen? (ding) Ohhhhhh -- four free rolls of the dice. That would've been like getting the starman in Super Mario. We would've let you roll the dice four straight times without fear of busting; sevens would've been worth $700 each and any double along the way wouldn't trigger a further double decision. Oh well. Reshuffle the board, please. (amounts are shuffled on the double decision board; after shuffling stops, the amounts are covered immediately with the doubles)Well -- try not to think about what might have been. Think about what is. Want to bank $2000 or roll again? (audience shouts suggestions)

(scattered cheers) Since you said, "please"... (ding)...we gladly put $2000 in your bank. With that, you're leading by $700 -- and we're quickly up to Round 4. Next question. Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson or George Washington. Who wrote the Declaration of Independence? 59 billmcdee 10 fdriscoll22 50 randomizer.org(Bill buzzes in)Bill?

Thomas Jefferson's right. (audience applause) Another free roll for you. (Bill rolls)(audience cheers)Wow -- starting off with the yo-leven. Bill, I think I know the answer -- but I have to ask this. Want to bank $1100 or risk that money? (audience shouts suggestions)

Another quick bank by the champ. (ding)With that, Bill takes back the lead. Margin's only $400. Anything can still happen as this game nears an end. We have just this, Round 6 and the catch-up to go. Here comes your Round 5 question. Keith Moon, Aldo Nova or Ringo Starr. Which rock star is *not* known as a famous drummer? 13 billmcdee 70 fdriscoll22 12 randomizer.org(Bill buzzes in)Bill?

The one who is NOT the drummer is Aldo Nova.

Canadian Aldo Nova is a guitarist, keyboardist, singer and songwriter -- but *not* a drummer. You're right. (audience applause) Give 'em a roll, Bill (Bill rolls)And your starting off with an 8 for $800. Are you staying true to strategy -- or are you going to live a little? (audience shouts suggestions)
