(Bill rolls)(doubles cue; audience cheers)Now that double counts -- and triggers a double decision. Bill, would you like to play this roll normally -- and have us add $600 to the pot -- *or*... ... would you like to take a chance on the double decision board? If you go for it, we see what's hiding in the double 3 screen. That screen could hide thousands of dollars, a surprise or a dud. And that dud could come in the form of a bust -- which means the $800 go down the drain and you're back to being $200 behind Michael. What's your double decision?

My gut tells me to take the $600 for a total of $1,400 and stop, and that is what I will do here Doug.

All right. You may do that. A total of $1400 is headed for your bank. (ding)With that, you're leading 3200 to Michael's 2000. Now after every activation of the double decision board, we reshuffle it. Before we do, we are permitted to take a peek and see what you declined in that double 3 screen. So -- what was waiting for Bill if he took the chance? (ding) (audience groans)Oh -- wow. $3000. Well -- let's reshuffle. (amounts are shuffled on the double decision board; after shuffling stops, the amounts are covered immediately with the doubles)Well that does prove anything can still happen. Michael, if you win this question and roll a double outside of the free roll, $3000 could be yours. We're getting close to the end of this game. Let's see who wins this Round 5 question. "Malfeasance", "Malice" or "Murder". Which word completes the title of this mystery novel by Sue Grafton? "M is for..." 36 billmcdee 66 Jill Manas Fan 79 randomizer.org(Michael buzzes in)Michael -- which also starts with M -- tells us the answer is...

In Sue Grafton's alphabet, M is indeed for "Malice". (audience applause) All right, Michael, chance to take the lead back. (Michael rolls) (scattered cheers) And that helps -- a 9. Bank now and you'll only be $300 shy of the lead. But a safe roll would likely give you the lead. What'cha think? (audience shouts suggestions)

(Michael rolls) (scattered cheers; a few woahs) Safe roll. Close to a bust -- but safe. You're up to $1500. Bank or roll? (audience shouts suggestions)

(Michael rolls)(bust cue; audience groans) Oh no! Another bust. Sorry about that. Bill maintains a $1200 lead. Unless Michael wins this question and banks exactly $1200, the catch-up round follows. Round 6 question coming. When Shirley Temple grew up, went through a divorce and later married her second husband, did her last name become Black, Green or White? 55 billmcdee 41 Jill Manas Fan 92 randomizer.org(Bill buzzes in)Bill?

That's it. (audience applause) Dice are hot again for you, Bill. Please take that free roll. (Bill rolls) Okay, double 3 -- but no double decision on the free roll. So we start you off with $600. Bill, if you busted in this round, Michael would have to make up $1200 with one roll of the dice. Whether or not you bust in this round, Michael's going to have to roll a double in the catch-up round. So -- want to bank $600 -- or risk the money and roll again? (audience shouts suggestions)

(scattered groans) They wanted you to go for more. But you're banking the six bills. (ding) (tones sound)And there's the signal indicating it's catch-up time. Michael, since you're trailing, you'll roll first. Bill, if necessary, you'll roll. Unless a player finds extra or free rolls on the double decision board, each player only gets one roll of the dice. There's no pot in play -- and a 7 is still a bust roll. You're not going to lose anything -- but you won't gain anything either by rolling a 7. The double decision board is still active -- and we need to reshuffle it. (amounts are shuffled on the double decision board; after shuffling stops, the amounts are covered immediately with the doubles)At least two of those screens have an extra roll each attached to the money. There's also a screen that doubles everything in your bank. But there are also paltry payoffs up there. Michael, basic math tells you you'll need to roll a double -- and have that double keep you in business. Anything other than a double means Bill wins Game 1. When you're ready -- please take your free roll. (Michael, number from 1-100 please.)

(Michael rolls)(audience groans) Got Patricia Kara's 9 instead. Bill wins Game 1. (dings; audience applause)Congratulations, Bill. You just won your first game in the match and a gold coin. You'll need two gold coins to win the match. Michael needs to win the next two games to become the champion. We'll take a break and set up for Game 2. We'll start that game -- when you return to the dice table. (commercial cue plays; audience applauds)

Lincoln's right. (audience applause) Michael, you need this game to stay in business. Please take your free roll. (Michael rolls)(audience cheers) Great start. A 10 for $1000. Next double, as you know, triggers a double decision. Choice right now is to bank the grand or roll again? (audience shouts suggestions)
