We're about to start the Wednesday episode of Hot Dice. Before we commence, some notes.
Bill McDee returns with one match win and $27,300. If he wins the next four matches consecutively, he retires undefeated and drives home in a new car.
Want to challenge him and perhaps start a five match winning streak of your own? Just come the closest to the right answer, high or low, to this query.
On June 12, 2011, at 10:30am Central, we watched a GSN rerun of "Catch 21". After two complete rounds, the three players combined to score how many points? Please respond higher than 1000 points and in increments of 100 points.
Please PM me your answer in 24 hours from now.

Just a question, do busts or scores over 21 count?

Good question, Kevin. The points referenced in the qualifying question only come from right answers and winning rounds.
Recall in "Catch 21", up until the start of Round 3, the right answer to each question was worth 100 points with 500 points awarded to the player who came the closest to a hand valued at 21 without busting.
As an example, let's say you were a contestant and the game's starting with Round 1. If Mikki dealt you a face card to start, you chimed in and correctly answered the first question, you'd have a total of 100 points (read: not 110 points, if that was what you were really wondering). Then if the next card was an Ace, the take/pass option was negated. They'd just give you the Ace to make a hand worth 21 and additional 500 points. By then, you'd have exactly 600 points (not 621 points).
If you busted at any time in Round 1 and/or 2, you don't lose points.
Make sense?

Okay, I completely misinterpreted the question. I thought you meant points from blackjack hands. It makes sense to me now.

All right, everyone's answers are in. After two rounds, Players 3 and 1 finished in the top two and advanced to the championship round. Player 3 racked up 1200 points, Player 1 had 700 and Player 2 scored only 200. Put 'em all together and they add up to... (ding) ...2100 points. Who's the closest? 2000 Jill Manas FanMichael Clifford -- only off by 100. Michael takes on Bill in Hot Dice -- right after station identification.

Sounds like a rich full life. Michael and Bill are looking to get richer here at the dice table -- so... (ding)Let's start the best two out of three. In this first game, we play six rounds and a catch-up round. Until that catch-up round, each round starts with a toss-up question. The winner of the question earns a free roll of the dice -- and then has a chance to build up a pot of money. Best of luck to you both -- and here's your Round 1 question in Game 1. By blood, by marriage or they're not related. They just share the same last name and nothing else. You're right. (audience applause) You've won the question and earned a free roll of the dice, Michael. Give 'em a roll. (Michael rolls)(scattered cheers) And a nice start -- the yo-leven for a head start of $1100. Michael, from now until a new round starts, every roll comes with a risk. If you roll a 7, that's a bust -- meaning you lose everything in the pot and score nothing for the round. Otherwise, the roll's value in hundreds of dollars is added to the pot. Double decision board is active. If you roll a double, you'll have the option of playing that roll normally -- or taking the corresponding screen on the board. All those screens hide cash, surprises and even a bust, which acts as if you rolled a 7. Right now, Michael, your decision is to end the round right now and bank $1100 -- or risk that money and roll again? (audience shouts suggestions)

He's right and all over it. (audience applause) Free roll for you, Bill. (Bill rolls) Okay, double 4. But you know by now the double decision board is inactive on the free roll. We seed a new pot with $800. The next double will trigger a decision -- but a 7 in this round is a bust. Wanna bank the 800 or roll again? (audience shouts suggestions)
