Welcome to our tenth episode of Hot Dice. Before we start looking for a challenger, some notes are in order...
\ Matt Ringgenberg returns with one match win and $36,550.
\ Starting this episode, any player who wins five straight matches retires undefeated and wins a new car. This rule is being grandfathered into Matt's current reign.

And you're certainly looking to put some more money in your cash register. Good luck as you defend for the first time. We also wish good luck to Kevin in his quest to become the new champion.
Kevin, please tell us about yourself.

Well we have video screens in this game. You might get to deal with them if the numbers on the dice match for a double. (ding)And in case the scoreboard breaks down, we might need Kevin's help in keeping score. Actually, our producer, giving me a borderline evil look, will keep score that if worse gets to worse. In any event, let's play Game 1 of a new match -- with six rounds and a catch-up round. Each of the first six rounds starts with a toss-up question. The winner of the question earns a free roll of the dice -- and then has a chance to build up money in the pot with further rolls. Hands on your buzzers, please, for your first question. Your ex-lover, your sister or a frog. According to an old adage in football, a game that ends in a tie is like kissing -- who or what? 13 koopakid17 (diff: 34) 77 mringgenberg (diff: 30) 47 randomizer.org
(Note from Doug: I incorrectly noted Kevin's buzz code as a 3; it's actually 13; Matt still "buzzed in first".) (Matt buzzes in)Matt?

Your Sister

Post by dougmorrisontheair on Jan 5, 2015 23:18:07 GMT -5
Your sister is right. (audience applause) Although after a football game, I recommend throwing darts at a photo of your ex-lover. (scattered laughter from the crowd) Matt, with that right answer, the dice are hot for you. Please take your free roll. (Matt rolls) And the dice total 5. At $100 a point, we seed the first pot with $500. Matt, as you know, as long as the dice stay hot, more money goes into the pot. From now until a new round starts, every safe roll adds its sum in hundreds of additional dollars to the pot. It's important to come up with safe rolls -- because anytime you roll a 7 outside of the free roll, that's a bust -- meaning you lose everything in the pot and you score nothing for the round. But if you roll a *double* outside of the free roll, you'll have a double decision to consider -- have us add $100 per point to the pot -- or take whatever's hiding behind the corresponding screen on the double decision board. Those double screens hide thousands of dollars in cash, smaller payoffs, some surprises -- and the word "bust" -- which acts as if you rolled a 7 and also wipes you out of the round. Right now your choice is -- bank the $500 and start a new round -- or risk the $500 and roll again? (audience shouts suggestions)

(Matt rolls)And another combination of 5 takes the pot up to $1000. Bank the grand or take dice in hand? (audience shouts suggestions)

Post by dougmorrisontheair on Jan 6, 2015 8:50:00 GMT -5
(Matt rolls)(doubles cue; audience cheers)Ah ha! Double decision time. Matt, you may play this roll normally and have us add $400 to the pot... ...or you may go to the double 2 screen on the board and hope for something better than a $400 addition. If there's money in that screen -- and, if there is, it's either worth more or less than $400 -- we'll add that much to the pot. If there's a surprise, we follow the directions. If there's a bust, Round 1 ends in a scoreless tie and we start Round 2. What's your double decision? $400 in the pot -- or the double 2 screen? (audience shouts suggestions)

Bank 'Em

Post by dougmorrisontheair on Jan 6, 2015 19:41:28 GMT -5
(scattered applause) Banking the grand and half a C-note. (ding)All right. Players, remember, anytime you bank money, it's yours to keep regardless of how you finish in a game or in the match. Player who ends up banking more money at the end of the catch-up round wins the game. Two games wins the match -- and a crack at the million in the Bonus Bonanza. Kevin, Matt, here comes your next question as we start Round 2. Green, orange or purple. According to CareerBuilder.com, what is the worst color to wear to a job interview? 27 koopakid17 14 mringgenberg 41 randomizer.org(Kevin buzzes in)And it's Kevin.

Orange.

Yup -- wearing orange to a job interview is a bad idea -- (audience applause) -- unless you're interviewing for a head coaching gig at the University of Tennessee. (a few laughs from the crowd) That's actually meant as a term of endearment. I used to live in Knoxville. (Kevin rolls)Kevin takes his free roll and starts with an 8 for $800 bucks. Wanna bank or roll? (audience shouts suggestions)

(scattered applause) Banking the baker's dozen of Benjamins. (ding)With that, Kevin takes the lead. Still a ways to go before we find a winner. Let's start Round 3 with this. You're enjoying a curaçao in Curaçao. Will you eat or drink curaçao? 40 koopakid17 34 mringgenberg 57 randomizer.org(Kevin buzzes in)Kevin?

Post by dougmorrisontheair on Jan 7, 2015 22:21:03 GMT -5
You do drink it. It's a liqueur. (audience applause) Let's see how much you can pad your lead, Kevin. (Kevin rolls) All right -- double 3. But no double decision on the free roll -- because there could be a bust in the double 3 screen. Plus we need to make sure we put *something* in the pot to start. So we seed this one with $600. Next double in this round will count toward a double decision. So -- bank the six bills or go for more thrills? (audience shouts suggestions)

"No" is correct. (audience applause) LeBron's been known to have recurring nightmares of losing the 2007 Finals to my Spurs. (scattered laughter from the crowd) (Kevin rolls) All right, Kevin rolls a 7 to start this round. Normally, that's a bust. But, again, to ensure money goes in the pot to start off, this is the free roll. So you may bank the $700 or roll again. The next 7 in this round does count as a bust. (audience shouts suggestions)
