I've got nothing to lose. Let's play and go for the Dancing Queen (Number 17)!

I loved that song from back in the 70s! The Dancing Queen, 17... (daily double sound effect) (groans in the audience) Sergio, ordinarily the Double Gold is a nice card to uncover, but not when you had $0 to begin with. If there is any good news to be had though, that's one less Double Gold that your opponent could capitalize upon later on during the game perhaps. Score remains $3,550 for Kourtney to Love for Sergio. Well what do you know..."Courtney Love" (chuckling) Time for another toss up and Sergio, this one goes to you... How many television sets were there in the United States in 2013? What say you, Sergio?

(Sigh) I suppose there's more than 300 million in the United States in 2013. But I think Kourtney may be more reasonable. I'm afraid that I'm going over. But 280 million television sets is my answer.

280 million is Sergio's guess. My question is who went around counting all of these television sets in 2013?!?! Kourtney, do you believe the correct answer is higher or lower than 280 million?

That would be my first question. To be honest it depends on the household. Back in the 50s and 60s a person may have one TV set tops. Now we may have a tv in the living room, bedroom, kitchen, den and other places. I am going to say Higher here.

Kourtney believes it is even higher than that... Will be interesting to see. With the advent of Youtube and other handheld apps used, even in 2013, coupled with all the "cord cutting" happening by traditional cable users... Let's find out. The actual number of TV sets that were in the United States in 2013 was... Only 219 million, it was not higher, it was actually lower! Yeah, it seems the farther we creep along here in the 21st century, the more "antiquated" means are slowly but surely falling by the wayside, and yet they still keep ME around for some reason... This of course means that you Sergio control the board again. You have nothing to lose, however our champion has $3,550 at stake presently. 22 numbers left, 17 are still good. Do you want to play the board yourself, or pass it to your opponent Sergio?

Oh! I thought it would be Kourtney instead. However, I was lucky, and speaking about that and since I have nothing to lose, I'm taking the risk and go for number Seeeeveeeen! 7, please Bill.

Let's hope there's something good this time for you Sergio. Wow, yet another money box! Only 7 on the board, that's the 3rd one already! Our players have had a penchant for finding those these last two shows! Sergio, do you want the cash award hidden under the top bill, the center bill, or the bottom bill?
Post by romnserg on May 17, 2018 14:50:39 GMT -5
I don't know how much value does each money box range, but because this is my first money box as a player. I don't waste any more time and let's go with the middle.
Post by billmcdee on May 17, 2018 15:13:10 GMT -5
Let's find out what that middle bill is worth... $4,000! (applause) And just like that, Sergio has "surged" into the lead! Very good game. We have our question indicator lights working properly now too, and it's with Kourtney this time... Going back to 2013 once again players. Kourtney, as of 2013, how many countries were a part of the United Nations? A most appropriate question since your challenger is from Spain.
Post by pathfinder20 on May 17, 2018 15:33:00 GMT -5
I think there is a lot of countries in the world and I also believe that almost everyone in the UN. Creo qué hay ciento noventa y dos países en la Naciones Unidas. (192 countries)

Post by billmcdee on May 17, 2018 15:38:47 GMT -5
Kourtney says 192 countries were in the United Nations in 2013. Sergio, is the correct answer higher or lower than 192?
Post by romnserg on May 17, 2018 16:43:08 GMT -5
Kourtney is also on the nose with his spanish and he said that "He thinks there's one hundred and ninety-two countries (192 countries)". I think there's a little bit more... So... Higher!

Post by billmcdee on May 17, 2018 17:33:05 GMT -5
Sergio believes it is higher than 192. Let's find out. The actual number of countries that were part of the United Nations in the year 2013 was... One Hundred Ninety THREE!!!!!!!!!! OH so close Kourtney!!!!!! But Sergio was right, by one! (applause) Very very excellent guesses and very impressive bilingual skills demonstrated by our players tonight! Sergio the board is yours again, however this time you have $4,000 at stake. All 5 Fool's Gold cards are still lurking on the board..... 21 numbers left, 16 are still good. Play or pass Sergio?

I'm risking my $4,000 with the unlucky dead end drive. Número 13! I mean... Number 13!

Smack dab center of the big board and tonight we have... Our first of 5 prizes on the board for this evening. What prize is it? Lovely flatware, valued at $850, yours to keep Sergio if you win the game before hitting a Fool's Gold. Of course there are two TAKE cards on the board too, so there's always the possibility that your opponent might take that flatware away from you later on during the game. Sergio, this next question goes to you. In what year was the patent for the telephone granted to Alexander Graham Bell?
Post by romnserg on May 18, 2018 15:21:25 GMT -5
Oh, my goodness. I don't think the telephone existed in the 18th Century. My guess is 1850.

I am going to say after that..
Post by billmcdee on May 19, 2018 4:52:17 GMT -5
1850 says Sergio, after says Kourtney. The year Alexander Graham Bell was granted the patent for the telephone was... 1876, it was indeed after! 1876 is also the year he got the patent for the busy signal... I bet many younger folks watching may never have heard of that (chuckling)... In any event, Kourtney, you won the question and control the board. All 5 Fool's Gold cards are still lurking. You have $3,550 at risk, your challenger has $4,850 at risk. 15 numbers are safe, 5 are unsafe. Do you want to pass or play Kourtney?

Number 22 is... My goodness, yet another money box! Top, middle or bottom Kourtney?

Let’s go with the top again.

Post by billmcdee on May 19, 2018 16:38:29 GMT -5
And that is... Well, $600 more in cash anyway... (applause) Two very bright players in a very very close game...Kourtney 4,150 thus far, Sergio $4,850 thus far...all 5 Fool's Gold cards still lurking. That music means it's time for a time out. We'll be back to pan for more gold here on Gold Rush, right after these words of interest!

Champion Kourtney Wilson has $4,150 so far, Challenger Sergio Roman Rodriguez all the way from Spain is currently at $4,850. All five Fool's Gold cards are still in play on the big board. Next question goes to you Kourtney... This question requires a percentage answer. Kourtney, what percentage of the Earth's surface is made up of desert?
Post by pathfinder20 on May 22, 2018 19:34:19 GMT -5
Well you have some pretty big deserts. The Sahara, Gobi, the Australian Outback.... I think it is pretty interesting. 32% (insert the theme from Playing the Percentages)
Post by romnserg on May 23, 2018 1:07:41 GMT -5
Bill, I think it's a little bit higher.
Post by billmcdee on May 23, 2018 3:17:58 GMT -5
32 percent for Kourtney, higher says Sergio. ("Play the Percentages!!!!" words sung to the first few notes of the theme) What in the heck?!?!?! (Looking around)... Methinks that was a sound mirage! I don't know the answer but I'm inclined to think it's lower than 32%. 32 percent is nearly one third, and since 3/4ths of the Earth is water, that would leave a maximum of 25% to be land surface, including desert. But let's find out. The actual percentage of the Earth's surface that is made up of desert is... Yeah, 20%, it is not higher, it is lower. Still I am surprised it is even THAT high a percentage. As the Earth is 20% desert, my body is 20 percent dessert! (Chuckling) Control of the board is yours Kourtney, to do with it as you wish. 19 boxes remain, 14 are safe, all 5 Fool's Gold cards are still lurking about however. That's about 73.6% of the board still being safe, speaking of percentages. Pass or play Kourtney?

I am going to play: let’s go with 20

Number 20 is... Random Riches! One of two on the board Kourtney. The money amount could be anywhere from as little as $750 to as much as $7,500 or any amount in between. You can keep it or you can refuse it and select another number, your decision.
