After a hard-fought battle in our pilot, James emerged victorious, but came up short in the Bonus Round, taking a grand total of $3,800 cash. James, please check in!
I will also need two new challengers. I do ask that Frank and Matt sit this episode out, please. Also, I will be travelling for Christmas, but I'll be taking my iPad and iPhone with me, so I'll be able to check in at least once a day (from 12/20-12/27). However, I will relax 24-hour deadlines during this period, so you need not worry if you can't make it on every day.
So, who's ready for the fastest, most interesting quiz on TV?

We are set, let's go!
(1986 "SS" Theme plays)
BRIAN CUMMINGS: Here's a question for you...
On a clock or watch with Roman numerals, what represents the number "4"?
BRIAN: You'll find out the answer to this and many more fascinating questions as these three players (shot of Kevin, James, and Lenny at their podia) vie for the right to win one of these five (shot of the cars on display) beautiful Toyota cars! All in a...
(Lightning crash)
SPLIT SECOND!
BRIAN: And here's our host, JON DARRALL! (Applause as I enter through the giant door separating the main game and bonus areas)
ME: Thanks, Brian Cummings! Thank you, audience and viewers at home, for joining us for another go-round of the fastest quiz show on TV - Split Second. Want to know the answer to the opener? If you said "IV," then you're partly right. Many clocks and watches with Roman numerals also use "IIII." Here's why - the idea dates back to the Middle Ages, when cities started growing and clock towers became prominent features. There was just one problem: the vast majority of Medieval Europeans were illiterate and couldn't figure out that "IV" meant "4," so some clocks replaced that symbol with "IIII." As for modern-day clocks and watches, some clockmakers use the "IIII" symbol to lend an air of antiquity and sophistication.
(I turn to the players)
ME: Kind of ironic that something we associate with sophistication was originally developed for peasants, isn't it, players? (The contestants shake their heads yes) Well, James is concerned with just four numbers at this point: three, eight, zero, zero, as that is the amount he has won so far, and he wants more. But, there are two people who want to stop your winning ways. Brian's going to tell us about our challengers. Brian?
(Contestant intro cue plays as I walk to my podium)
BRIAN: Our first challenger is from Long Island, New York. Meet KEVIN KOLSEN! Our second challenger is from Washington, DC. Please welcome LENNY JACKSON. There they are, so let's play Split Second!
ME: Of course, James Greek of Elba, Alabama is our one-time champion with $3,800 cash. Here's how we play our game. As you know, each Split Second question comes in three parts, but I only need you to provide the answer to one part. Your buzzers are rigged to register the order in which you press them, but you cannot jump the gun. The amount of money you win is based on how many people correctly answer a question. In Round One, you'll earn $50 if all three of you are right, $75 if two of you are right, and $150 if you are the only one to answer correctly. After two rounds and the exciting Countdown Round, the one who emerges victorious will have a chance at a beautiful Toyota (Crowd applauds). Let's get started, shall we? First question is on TELEVISION.
Sketch comedy shows have been around almost as long as television itself. Many such shows include regular segments to keep viewers hooked. I'll name regular segments of 3 shows. Pick one, and name the sketch comedy show, past or present, that features that segment. Look at the screen.
A. "The Flying Fickle Finger of Fate Award" B. "Weekend Update" C. "PFFT! You Was Gone!"
(Laughter at the last one...BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: Lenny, Kevin, James.
ME: Lenny, you're first!
(Gentlemen, you don't need to wait for me to acknowledge an answer, so long as you go in order.)

ME: There you go! Leave it to our Southerner to get that one. Since Lenny and James got a right answer, they each score $75 (Applause). By the way, James, our sound guy thanks you for that nice braying (Laughter). By the way, A. "The Flying Fickle Finger of Fate Award" was from LAUGH-IN. Here's a question on U.S. GEOGRAPHY.
Did you know that there are 10 states with two-word names? Well, now you do! I'll give three facts about the two-word states. Pick one, and identify the state. Look at the screen.
A. Most populated 2-word state. B. Westernmost 2-word state. C. 1 of 2 to join Union on 11/2/1889.
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: Kevin, James, Lenny.
ME: Kevin, you're up!

ME: All three right for $50 (Applause)! Kevin has $50, while James and Lenny are tied at $125. We could break the tie with a question on FAMOUS AMERICANS.
One of the most influential and celebrated figures of the 20th Century was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Although he lived only 39 years, Dr. King was and has been honored with numerous accolades. I'll name 3 awards. Pick one and tell me, YES or NO, has that award ever been bestowed on Dr. King? Look at the screen.
A. Nobel Peace Prize B. Pulitzer Prize C. Grammy Award
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: Lenny, James, Kevin.
ME: Lenny, start us off.

I'll say he did not win a Pulitzer.

ME: A talented writer, but you're right, he DID NOT win a Pulitzer. Lenny and Kevin score that time (Applause). By the way, James, Dr. King DID win a Grammy after his death. In 1971, he won the Best Spoken Word Album Grammy for his recording "Why I Oppose the War in Vietnam." Learn something new everyday, don't we? Let's check the scores.
KEVIN: $125 JAMES: $125 LENNY: $200
ME: Let's see if we can break this tie with a question on FILMS.
For over 50 years, the James Bond movies have thrilled audiences with their outrageous stunts, exotic locales, foul fiends, and gorgeous women. This question focuses on the women. I'll name 3 Bond beauties. Pick one, and tell me the movie in which that character appeared. HINT: All the films starred Sean Connery. Look at the screen.
A. Honey Ryder B. Kissy Suzuki C. Tiffany Case
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: James, Kevin, Lenny.
ME: James, start us off.

ME: Right for $75 for you and James (Applause). For B, the name "Suzuki" should have led you to the film set in Japan: "YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE." We have broken the tie, as Kevin has $125, James has $200, and Lenny is in the lead with $275 (Applause). Here's a question on WORLD LEADERS.
In India, it seems that the last name "Gandhi" is cursed, as many prominent Indians with that last name were tragically killed. I'll name 3 Gandhis. Pick one and tell me, YES or NO, was he or she assassinated?
A. Mahatma B. Indira C. Sanjay
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: Lenny, Kevin, James.
ME: Lenny starts this time.
