ME: The next question is on SPELLING. For this, you must S-P-E-L-L your answers, as I just did.
Many first names are homonyms; that is, they sound the same but are spelled differently. For instance, my name can be spelled J-O-H-N or J-O-N. I'll describe 3 famous men whose first names are homonyms. SPELL each one correctly. Look at the screen.
A. British pop singer, Mr. Astley. B. Former Indiana Pacer nicknamed "The Flying Dutchman," Mr. Smits. C. Wrestling's long-time "Nature Boy," Mr. Flair.
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: James, Kevin, Lenny.
ME: James, take it!

ME: WHOOOOO! (Laughter) You're still the champ!
(Applause as fanfare plays; the contestants shake hands with one another as I approach the podia)
ME: Way to go, everyone! I get this funny feeling, James, that when you get control in the Countdown Round, you do NOT want to give it up. Certainly, Lenny and Kevin found that out the hard way. No need to feel bad for them, though, as the two challengers did an excellent job. Kevin, you won $1,375, and Lenny, you got $1,675. Big hands for them, please! (Applause) James, you know that you got an extra $1,000 for winning the game, taking you up to $2,450 for the day, but now you know what's next....going for a car. Let's go and see if you can win a car on your second attempt! Stay with us to find out if he can win it.
(Theme plays as James and I walk toward the bonus area...the stage doors open as we do so)
BRIAN: Which car will James play for? Find out when we return on "Split Second"!

(Theme plays as the camera swings in from an overhead shot of the bonus area, zooming in to a screen positioned between me and James. Brian does this plug...)
BRIAN: All cars for this week's shows are provided by Yorkdale Toyota-Scion. Offering "small town service in the heart of the city," Yorkdale is Toronto's premier dealer for Toyota and Scion sales and service. Visit our showroom or our website at "yorkdale toyota dot com." Now, let's rejoin Jon and James on "Split Second"!
(Shot of us at the base of a series of platforms, each displaying a car and a mounted monitor on the back of each platform. The platforms also have lighted floors.)
ME: Thanks, Brian! We are back with James, who has won $2,450 cash today and combined winnings so far of $6,250 (Applause)! And I know he wants to win more. First, James, let's show you what the five cars are....
(Bonus area darkens slightly as the theme starts back up. As I announce each car's name, the lighted floor beneath it shines and the monitor behind it displays the name.)
ME: You could win the COROLLA LE CVT sedan (Applause)! Or the EIGHTY SIX sports coupe (Applause)! How about the RAV4 SUV (Applause)? Maybe the TACOMA pickup (Applause)? You could also win the YARIS liftback (Applause)! Those are the cars, and here's how you win them. Above the screen beside you are five keys, one for each car. Pick one, and if you go on to select the car that matches it, you retire with the car and the cash you've won so far (Applause)! Go ahead and pick a key, please.

Well I had some slips of paper from fortune cookies from the Chinese restaurant and if I recall one of the numbers was 2 so let's go with 2!

(James pulls Key #2 from the display)
ME: Let's see how well the fortune cookies treated you, then. You know what happens now: I'll ask three 3-part questions. Every time you answer one completely and correctly, we will black out an incorrect car. Each question uses the same 3 answers, and each answer will only be used once. Remember to give the part along with the answer, or you'll be asked to correct yourself. Let's see today's three answers.
(Screen displays)
LAND SEA SKY
ME: LAND, SEA, or SKY. Here's your first question...
Many unusual sports feature unusual feats of daring in unusual settings. I'll name 3 sports, and you match them to their setting - LAND, SEA, or SKY. Look at the screen.
A. Parahawking B. Skurfing C. Orienteering
ME: James, your answers?

ME: That is correct! We will eliminate at least one car. Here is question 2.
Many animals adapt to their general habitats. I'll name 3 animals, and you match them to their general habitats - LAND, SEA, or SKY. Look at the screen.
A. Lamprey B. Kestrel C. Mandrill
ME: James, your answers?

ME: Right on all counts (Applause). For the record, a Kestrel is a bird, so SKY was right on that one. We will eliminate at least two cars, maybe three. Let's see how we do on the final question.
I'll name three types of transportation, and you tell me where they would most likely be operated - LAND, SEA, or SKY. Look at the screen.
A. A fiacre. B. A felucca. C. A Fokker.
ME: Your answers?

ME: Sorry, I can't take that. The options were LAND, SEA, and SKY. We do need you to use the options we provide. A fiacre was LAND, felucca was SEA, and Fokker was SKY. We'll still eliminate 2 cars, and you will have a 1-in-3 chance to win a car.

ME: You now will have a 1-in-3 chance of winning the car. We will black out the screens of TWO of the cars that don't match your key. Take a look, James.
COROLLA LE CVT EIGHTY SIX RAV4 TACOMA YARIS
ME: Let's black out one car....now (A switch off effect is heard as one of the screens goes black and the platform beneath the car goes off).
COROLLA LE CVT EIGHTY SIX ---------- TACOMA YARIS
ME: You don't have the RAV4 key. Let's turn off your last car...now (Switch off).
COROLLA LE CVT EIGHTY SIX ---------- TACOMA ----------
ME: James, you hold the key to the COROLLA LE CVT sedan, the EIGHTY SIX coupe, or the TACOMA pickup. Match the key to the car, and it's yours. Which of the three would you like to try to start?
(Audience yells suggestions)

ME: The TACOMA it is. Let's go over there as Brian tells us about it.
(Car cue plays as I walk James to the truck. He sits in the front seat and places the key in the ignition.)
BRIAN: As tough on the inside as it is on the outside, the Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Access Cab SR+ pickup truck is powered by a 2.7 liter four-cylinder engine and 5-speed manual transmission. Features include four-wheel drive, alloy wheels, standard safety and comfort/convenience features, anti-theft device, and AM/FM/CD stereo system. With all fees, this truck is worth...
$34,720
BRIAN: Good luck, James!
ME: OK, James. You know what to do now...on the count of three, turn that key. If it starts, the truck is yours. If not, you get a consolation prize that's nicer than the last one you got. Audience, help me out!
(Drumroll plays)
ME AND THE AUDIENCE: ONE!.........TWO!..........THREE!
(James turns the key...REVREVREVREVREV......)
("Pitcher's Got A Big Butt" plays as James shakes his head)
ME: Aww, man! Commiserations to you, James. Hand me the key, please (He does so). Which one was it?
(The light beneath the COROLLA pulsates)
ME: The COROLLA! As I go over there, I'll show you that it was indeed that key (I start the COROLLA with the key, then return to James). Not to worry, though, you got another consolation prize. Open up the glove compartment, and you'll see your consolation prize (He does so, and pulls out a slightly bigger bundle of cash). As you come out of the truck, show the bundle of cash worth $1,500! In all, your total is...
$7,750
ME: And you'll come back next time for another chance at the cars (Theme starts up). And, we hope you'll join us on our next episode of...
(Lightning crash)
SPLIT SECOND!
ME: We'll see you again soon (Kevin and Lenny join James at the truck while the credits play).
