(BUZZ!)
ME: James and Matt, apparently Pokemon was not your game. Frank scores another $150 by himself (Applause). The other answers: Vulpix was FIRE, and Blastoise was WATER.
(CLANGCLANGCLANGCLANGCLANG!)
ME: That signal means it's the end of Round One (Applause as the theme starts up). Let's check the scores.
JAMES: $400 FRANK: $625 MATT: $325
ME: As you can see, Frank has jumped out into the lead, but it's still anyone's game as we take a short break. However, before we go, I'd like to pose a question for the viewers at home (contestants, no need to respond - this is a "just for fun" feature).
Earlier, we learned about three TV Superstations: WTBS, WGN, and WWOR. Two of those stations shared the same channel number. Which one DID NOT?
ME: We'll have the answer and Round Two when we return for more of "Split Second"! Stay with us!

(Theme plays as the camera shows me chatting with the contestants)
BRIAN: Did you know the answer to our home viewer question? Which of the three Superstations has a different channel number than the other two? It was WTBS! That was Channel 17 in Atlanta, while WGN and WWOR were, and still are, Channel 9 in their respective cities.
(Art card as Brian does this promo)
BRIAN: Questions on "Split Second" are verified by the 2016 World Book Encyclopedia, featuring 14,000 pages with over 1,000 new or revised articles, 25,000 illustrations, and QR codes for downloadable content. As always, easy to use, easy to read, and easy to understand, the World Book Encyclopedia is the perfect reference for young and old. Back to you, Jon!
(Shot of me back at my podium)
ME: Thanks, Brian! As you can see, we have a good game going into Round Two. Matt, even though you're trailing, you can easily come back because we have now doubled the stakes. You'll earn $100 apiece if all three of you are right, $150 each for two correct answers, and $300 if you give a correct answer by your lonesome. You've really got a chance to rack up some big money here, because all the money you earn is yours no matter what. More importantly, though, you're jockeying for position in the Countdown Round, which will determine who goes on to play for a beautiful new Toyota automobile (Applause).
ME: With that in mind, let's resume. First question is on FAMOUS AMERICANS.
I'm going to describe 3 famous Americans, past or present, with the first name "Annie." Pick one, and tell me her last name. Look at the screen.
A. 1st to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel. B. Wild West sharpshooter. C. Took the last photograph of John Lennon.
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: James, Frank, Matt.
ME: Go ahead, James.

JAMES: The Wild West sharpshooter is ANNIE OAKLEY.
ME: Correct. Frank?
FRANK: I'm afraid I'll have to pass on this one.
(BUZZ!)
ME: No answer, then. Matt?
MATT: I'll need to pass, too.
(BUZZ!)
ME: Oh, my! James scores by himself this time and regains the lead (Applause)! James is at $700, Frank $625, Matt $325. The other answers: ANNIE TAYLOR went over Niagara Falls and ANNIE LEIBOVITZ photographed John Lennon and many other rock icons. Let's go on to FILMS.
Film titles are often chosen to give them an international flair. I'll show you 3 film titles, each with a blank. Pick one, and fill in the blank with a NATIONALITY. Look at the screen.
A. The _____ Patient B. The _____ Connection C. The _____ Job
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: Frank, Matt, James.
ME: Frank, go for it!

ME: All three right for $100 (Applause)! Let's check the scores.
JAMES: $800 FRANK: $725 MATT: $425
ME: Next question is on POP MUSIC.
Many of the biggest hits in pop, rock, and soul were performed by duos. I'll give the titles of 3 hit songs. Pick one, and name the duo who made it a hit. HINT: All the answers contain the word "and." Look at the screen.
A. "Maneater" B. "Hold On, I'm Comin'" C. "Surf City"
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)

ME: Very good! All three right again (Applause)! James still leads with $900, Frank $825, Matt $525. Let's try one on U.S. GEOGRAPHY.
Contrary to popular belief, the Mason-Dixon Line was not drawn to separate free states and slave states. Instead, it was drawn to settle an 18th Century border dispute. I'll list 3 U.S. cities. Pick one, and tell me if it is NORTH or SOUTH of the Mason-Dixon Line. Look at the screen.
A. Atlantic City, NJ B. Harrisburg, PA C. Charleston, WV
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: James, Matt, Frank.
ME: James, start us off.

ME: James, Atlantic City is actually SOUTH (but just barely). Matt, Charleston is SOUTH, you're right. Frank, what about Harrisburg, PA?

Is it North?

ME: It is NORTH. Matt and Frank score (Applause). That means Frank retakes the lead with $975, James with $900, and Matt closes the gap at $675. Here's a question on FAMOUS FAMILIES.
During the second 2016 Presidential Debate, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were famously asked what they admired about each other. Hillary's response: Donald's children. Indeed, "The Donald" has 5 children from 3 wives. I'll list 3 of these children. Pick one and tell me if the child's mother is IVANA, MARLA, or MELANIA. Look at the screen.
A. Eric B. Barron C. Tiffany
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: James, Frank, Matt.
ME: James, you are first again.

ME: All three right this time (Applause)! Let's check the scores.
JAMES: $1,000 FRANK: $1,075 MATT: $775
ME: OK, moving on to VOCABULARY.
A phobia, by definition, is an irrational fear of a very specific object or phenomenon. For instance, a person with "astraphobia" shouldn't come on "Split Second" because it's the fear of lightning and thunder (Laughter). I'll name 3 other phobias that start with the letter "A." Pick one, and tell me what it is the fear of. Look at the screen.
A. Acrophobia B. Agoraphobia C. Autophobia

ORDER: Matt, Frank, James.
