MTV's side-splitting showcase of pop culture trivia is back and bigger
than ever! Join me, Colin, Steve, and Kari at 72 Woopingkoff Lane for
a chance to win up to 10 fantasic prizes! But first, "da rulez, yo!"
ROUND ONE
- Three contestants, seated in recliners, will face a TV with 9 channels.
The player in control will select one of the channels and learn its
contents. A 5-point toss-up is asked (if it's a regular channel, of
course). No penalties on any questions, so ring-in on every one!
- I will take PMs that contain a buzz code (1-100, closest wins) and
an answer. However, I will hold you to that answer, unless a previous
player missed a question and you happen to say the same thing. I will
ask you by PM if you would like to change the answer or just pass.
- A correct answer earns you the points and control of the remote. The
player in control may stick with the channel or change it. If he or
she chooses to stick, the next question is worth 10 points, followed by
a 15-pointer (should a player elect to stick, of course).
- Most channels will contain 3 questions, worth 5, 10, and 15 points,
in succession. Of course, higher points means harder questions!
- Questions may be either straightforward trivia questions or presented
in the form of skits. You may even be required to sing!
- Channels will include a mix of old faves from the original, as well as
new ones I created. They will address TV, movies, and music.
- After a set number of questions, we will end the round
with the ever-popular Snack Break!
ROUND TWO
- Same as Round One. All channel numbers will be back in play, and
the contents of those channels will be different.
- The questions in regular channels are worth 10, 20, and 30 points.
- After a set number of questions, the TV will go "Off The Air," and
the trailing player goes bye-bye!
LIGHTNING ROUND: THIS, THAT, OR THE OTHER
- The host will introduce a question that has three possible answers,
then list 12 items all at once. Each item can be answered with one
of the three answers given.
- When the host posts all 12 items, the players will PM their codes and
answers, then we'll play out the round.
- ONLY THE FIRST player who rings in will get to attempt each item.
- Players earn 10 points if they are right, but LOSE 10 if they are
wrong, so be careful! For this reason, you may PM "PASS" on an item
to avoid the penalty.
- When the 12 questions are done, the leading player rides the train
to Gloryville, while the trailing player rides his or her recliner
outta my house!
BONUS ROUND: WHEEL OF JEOPARDY, V. 1.0
- Since the music video thing would be nearly impossible (I originally
thought of still images, but even that would be too easy), I decided to
go with the original syndicated version's Bonus Round.
- The winner is strapped to a horizontal wheel, which will spin around
while I ask 10 questions.
- Before the round begins, the champion will decide whether he or she
wants questions from TV, Movies, or Music. He or she will also choose
a bonus number...more on that later.
- Once the host reveals the category for the final 10 questions, the
round begins. The host will ask questions one at a time, and the player
must provide an EXACT answer. If he or she does, a TV screen surrounding
the Wheel will say "WIN!", whereas a wrong answer or pass turns the
corresponding screen to the word "LOSE."
- The champ will only get one crack at each question.
- Each correct answer wins an increasingly valuable prize, added to the
player's winnings. The ninth prize is always a vacation, and the tenth
prize (Grand Prize) is a vehicle.
- A player need not answer all ten questions to win the Grand Prize.
When we go through all questions, the player will see which screens
are WIN! screens and then will yell "STOP THE WHEEL!" along with a letter
A-J. This will determine where the Wheel stops and where his head will
point to. If his head points to a WIN! screen, then the Grand Prize is
added to whatever he or she won leading up to it.
- In the event that a contestant gets all ten questions, he or she wins the prizes
but has a chance to add $5,000 in cash to all the loot. The contestant
will stop the Wheel, and if the player lands on the screen he or she
chose previously as a bonus number, we'll add the cash. If not, the
player still wins the 10 prizes.
- No returning champions, but win or lose, players may try again after
2 shows.
SPECIAL RULES
- Deadlines are 48 hours for all actions, except for answering a "timed"
question like Beat the Bishop.
- Each round will contain at least one one-time channel. These can
involve all three players, or just the player who chose it. Rules will
be given when selected. Once chosen, that channel will be closed.
Special channels are worth 10 points in Round One, and 20 points in Round Two.
- Each round will contain at least one channel devoted to a specific
TV series, past or present. This is considered a "regular" channel.
- A round may contain one penalty channel. This channel only affects
the player who chose the channel. The penalty is 10 points in Round
One and 20 points in Round Two. However, if a player doesn't have
the amount of the penalty, he or she may breathe easy as we won't deduct
the points. Players who select a penalty retain control, though.
- If a question requires a name of a person or character, we will generally
need both the first and last name, unless that person or character was
typically known by just one name. On a related note, if you accidentally give a
performer's name when asked for a character's name (or vice versa), you
will be given one chance to correct yourself.
- Incomplete or misspelled answers will be handled on a case-by-case
basis.
- If a tie-breaker is needed, we will play a one-question "Dead or Alive?"
showdown. Right answer, you stay. Wrong answer, you're outta here!
- Last but not least, feel free to participate in the humor of the show!
Taunting and bantering are OK (but swearing is not), as are throwing food
and bopping each other with the seat cushions! You might even get some
good-natured badinage from me and/or Colin! Consider that the ultimate
honor on "Remote Control"!
OK, so who's ready to sit down, strap in, and show their stuff?
