At long last, On A Roll is ready to resume. This version of On A Roll won't be too much different from the one Greg Palmer hosted -- and my greatest thanks to Greg for passing the torch this direction. In terms of gameplay, the *biggest* difference is going to be a rebooted return of the name game in lieu of toss-up questions. In a name game, the players will be shown the number of letters in a famous person's last name... ...and be given a clue about why that person was or is still famous -- or "on a roll". Clue: She got on a roll as a dealer on the first revival of "Card Sharks".I will then randomly reveal three letters in the last name. The players will then privately message the host their answers and buzzcodes from 1-100. The player closer to the actual buzzcode, provided by random.org, will get a chance to answer. The correct answer to the name game earns the first of four rolls of dice for that round. An incorrect answer means three more letters are revealed and the opposing player gets a free guess. If the second player answers correctly, (s)he gets control of the dice. A wrong answer means the name is revealed in full and play continues with a new name game. As you've probably figured out by now, the correct answer to this name game is "Pemberton". As On A Roll returns, we welcome back Jon Darrall, our current champion with winnings of $570,040 in cash and merchandise. We're now playing a qualifying question to seek his challenger. The player closest to the right answer, high or low, opposes John. And here's your question. On February 24, 2013, at 4:30pm Central, we watched a GSN rerun of "Family Feud". In Fast Money, two members of the winning family didn't reach the goal of 200 points. The family received how much money as a consolation prize? Please respond in increments of $5.We'll operate on 24-hour deadlines. Please PM me your answer at dougmorrisontheair.

I love this show. And hello, Greg, wherever you are. Thanks for the kind words. She'll be revealing the letters that make up our clues in the game we're about to start. Meantime, taking care of the dice here at the table is the winner of the seventh cycle of "America's Next Top Model", CariDee English. (audience cheers) CariDee: Hi, Doug. I can't wait to help our players get on a roll. And a special message to Greg, wherever you are. Jon is our current champion and the biggest winner in the history of our show. As we alluded to at the top of the show, he has won $570,040 in cash and prizes. (audience cheers)Well-deserved cheers, for sure. Jon, you should feel like a celebrity. For one thing, you've done more shows than I have -- (scattered laughter from the crowd) -- and you've won so much money and three cars. Any plans for the money?

Save a good portion of it, honestly, but you know I've got to spend some on taking a vacation! That is, after my uncle in Washington, DC gets some...you know, his name is Samuel or something like that.

Ah, yes, we all know him well. We all send him checks by mid-April.
May seem silly to wish someone who's already won $570,000+ good luck -- but that's what I'm going to do. And I'm also wishing just as much luck to your challenger, Matt Ringgenberg.
Matt, please tell us about yourself.

Well, thanks for coming out here from Iowa, Matt. Jon and Matt, again, good luck to you both as we start our first game today. Now, something we're bringing back this season with a reboot is the name game. We'll play a sample name game. (FF reveal sfx) In this example, we have a famous last name that's seven letters long. I then offer a clue as to why this person was or is still famous or, to put it another way, on a roll. For example, I'd say, "He's on a roll -- as the voice of 'Jeopardy!'"Our computer would then randomly reveal three letters, like this. (ding) Then the buzzers would be active. If you buzz in with the right answer, you win the first of four rolls of the dice. If you're wrong, your opponent gets a chance to capitalize -- as he gets three more letters. (ding) A correct answer here would mean four rolls; a wrong answer means we throw out that name game and resume with a new name game. And, by now, I'm sure you've figured out the right answer. (ding) Gilbert -- as in Johnny Gilbert. Now that you know how it works, let's play our first *real* name game of the match. (FF reveal sfx) Ten letters in this famous last name. And here's your clue. She was already on a roll -- well before she was hot in Cleveland. (ding) (Players, please PM me your answer and a buzzcode from 1-100)

48 jmdarrall 34 mringgenberg 87 random.org (Jon buzzes in) Doug: Jon? Jon: BERTINELLI (dings; audience applause) That's it. Valerie Bertinelli. Apparently, Jon, you agree with our writers she's still hot -- even after the recent series finale. Jon, with that correct answer, you've just earned four rolls of the dice. You're going to use the numbers that you roll on the dice to uncover as many letters as you can from our puzzle board. Those letters make words. The words serve as clues leading to the identity of a person, place or thing. And now, let's bring on those clue words. (FF reveal sfx; Erin poses by numbered and blocked spaces) There they are. Three words in the top row, two in the middle row and two at the bottom row. Those letters are hidden behind the numbered and blocked spaces. Remember, the blocked spaces, represented by the question marks, stay blocked until you correctly solve a clue. As you roll the dice and uncover letters, remember, *please* do not roll doubles. If you throw doubles, your opponent, Matt, takes control of the remaining rolls of the dice and also picks one free letter. (CariDee hands Jon the dice) So -- without further adieu, Jon, you are -- on a roll. (scattered cheers) (Jon rolls)And you start with a 2 and a 3. That means you may uncover letters hidden by any 2 *and* any 3 -- and you don't have to pick them on the same row -- or you may play the sum of the dice and have Erin reveal a letter hidden by any 5. How do you play it?

The 2 and 3 from the top row give us... (Erin touches screen) ...an A and... (Erin touches screen) ...an M. Players, keep in mind if you make a wrong guess on a clue or the overall puzzle, there's no penalty and you may keep on rolling -- provided we still have rolls left in a round. With that clarified, Jon, you may guess the top clue or roll again.

(buzz buzz)No guess -- and no rolls left. That means we need to get set for another name game. We'll see if Jon can regain control of the dice or if Matt can get on a roll. (FF reveal sfx) And it's another ten-letter famous last name. Here's your clue. He's been on a roll -- ever since he was part of *NSYNC. (ding) (Players, please PM me your answer and a buzzcode from 1-100. Due to my extended absence from NGC, your PMs are due September 1 at 7 p.m. CDT.)

47 jmdarrall 29 mringgenberg 68 random.org (Jon buzzes in)Jon? Jon: Timberlake. (dings; audience applause) That's it -- Justin Timberlake. Tying the knot with Jessica Biel certainly didn't hurt. (CariDee hands Jon dice) Dice are back in your hands, Jon. Let's see what happens. (Jon rolls)(buzz) (audience groans)Arrgh! Sorry about that, Jon, but you rolled two twos. You don't get anything for a pair. Audience: Not in this game! Music to the ears of Matt. Matt, step into the box, please. You'll get control of the remaining three rolls in this round. But first... ...you may take one free letter. Any numbered space is yours for the picking.
