Time for our "first episode proper" of the Las Vegas version of Top Card. \ nelson21 returns with one win and $66,000. \ Just in case you're not familiar with the rules: www.dougmorris.net/cards\ And now, time for qualifying, the two players closest to the right answer, high or low, get to play. Before the show, Jackie spun an American roulette wheel twice. We took the number from each spin, multiplied the numbers and reached what product? Please make sure your answer is lower than 1297 (even a spin of 00 makes the correct total 0).
Please PM dougmorrisontheair (that's a me) in 24 hours from now.

(opening theme plays) Thank you, Steve Anderson. Helloooooo, everybody, and welcome to our first official episode of Top Card from one of the most exciting cities on the planet -- fabulous Las Vegas! (audience cheers)After a great sneak preview episode, we are delighted to bring the game of knowledge, strategy, and luck of the draw here to Vegas. And here to help us is renowned Baccarat dealer -- sure to be a renowned Top Card dealer -- Miss Jackie McQueen. (audience cheers)Jackie: Hi, everybody. Doug: So -- Jackie -- after our sneak preview, some gentlemen in the front row were asking if you were -- ya know -- available. They're back today. Want to break the news? Jackie: Yes, I'm in a very stable relationship -- with the head of security here. Doug: I've met the director of security. He's about 7' tall, weighs 300 pounds, and is nicknamed "Sir". (audience laughs)
Jackie: No he's not! Doug: Just kidding! No, he actually looks a little like Josh Duhamel, one of the stars of "Las Vegas" from many moons ago. Jackie: I can see that. I loved that show. Doug: So, sorry fellas. Jackie's spoken for. Jackie, please speak a word or two about our returning champion. Jackie: With one win and $66,000 in cash, we welcome back Nels Snesrud. (audience cheers)Doug: Nels, welcome back. Sixty-six large to the good. More than enough to gain entry into the Baccarat room around here, I'm sure. (scattered laughter from crowd) I bring that up only because part of that money came courtesy of a special serendipity moment involving Jackie's Pot. Nels, remind us what you're not doing when you're winning big here in Vegas.

Well you bowled the house over to the tune of $66,000 in our sneak preview special. Let's see what happens as you defend your championship... ...against these two challengers. Let's make welcome from Spartanburg, South Carolina, George Custer. (audience cheers)George, welcome. Please tell us about yourself.

Well, I am from Spartanburg, SC all of my life. I enjoy singing, listening to 80s, news music, watching game shows, doing word finds, and play mahjong for 20 years. Just celebrated my 20th anniversary playing Mahjong last month. I also help the Teen Titans whenever they need me. We helped stop Jinx from doing anymore evil. She is currently in Raven's correction area and couldn't be with us today. But we still have the Titans out in the audience. Maybe I can introduce you all to them either before the bonus round or after the main game is over.

Cluster. Sorry about that. I swear it's a different name here on the card. Give that production assistant two demerits and dock 50 cents from his pay. (scattered laughter from crowd) While we do that -- let's welcome Bryan Law from Columbus, Mississippi. (audience cheers)I know where Columbus, Mississippi, is. Three of my close relatives lived there at various points in time. I've been there many times myself. Please tell us about yourself, Bryan.

Having some weird feedback here in the theater. New show problems. (scattered laughter) Let's play Top Card. We'll muddle through this. The object of the game is to hit 21 or come the closest to that number without busting. Along the way, you'll have to answer toss-up questions from these categories. The first category of the day is Three-Letter Words; then we have Palindromes, which are words that can be spelled the same forwards and backward; we also have Yacht Rock; Shades of "Grey", notice the quotation marks around "Grey"; On The Calendar; Other Card Games; Complete It; and Fake News. The Fake News category is about fictional news broadcasts that appear in various media -- such as Ted Baxter's news programs which were seen throughout the run of Mary Tyler Moore's eponymous sitcom. Now before the show, we took a special deck of ten cards, ace through 10, gave it a good shuffle, and dealt one card behind each category. Chime in with the correct answer -- and you'll decide between the card behind the chosen category -- or the top card of a full 52-card deck in front of Jackie. Whether or not you take the top card, the card and category up here on the board then leave the round. Once you've collected a card, you'll have another decision -- choose another category, or, if you're in a position to bust, you may freeze. And that's important because the first player to freeze gets to make the last move of the round if necessary. A round can never end in a tie. And an ace is always worth one. Nels, you're the returning champion. You'll start us off by picking the first category in Round 1.

Other Card Games it is. Again, good luck, all -- and away we go. Take a look at the monitor and unscramble the name of this card game that Ryan Day likely has not played -- at least in recent years.
(Players, please PM me your answer and a buzz code from 1-100.)

(scattered laughter from crowd)
Doug: Bryan, first card of the game for you... ...is an 8 -- or the top card. (audience shouts suggestions)

Again, these are questions about fictional news broadcasts that appear in various media. Aaron Sorkin created this series that ran for three seasons on HBO. The drama takes a behind-the-scenes look at ACN's "News Night with Will McAvoy". Give me the two-word title of the HBO series.
