(HR87 theme plays) Gino Vannelli co-writing "Seek & Destroy"? Really? (scattered laughter from crowd) That answer came in jest from our floor director, by the way. A source for many of the puzzles and questions we use on Lucky Numbers is the 22-volume World Book Encyclopedia -- which includes the index volume and research guide. Our players always receive great welcoming gifts -- even if one of them incorrectly solves a puzzle "Gino Vannelli". (scattered laughter from crew) Bill: (laughs) Is this turning into a theme show?
Each of today's participants will receive a $500 LobsterGram gift card. LobsterGram is a unique way to send great gourmet gifts of succulent lobster. Shipped fresh from LobsterGram. Bill: We'll be back with more of Lucky Numbers -- after this message.

(ASB cue plays; audience applauds) Welcome back to Lucky Numbers. During the break, our house DJ tried his best to fuse "Seek & Destroy" with "Living Inside Myself". (audience laughs) It didn't work. (audience laughs)With that, let's resume action. Kourtney banked $1100 on the last puzzle. Mark's yet to score. Ahead of a new puzzle, Mark, you'll be roll. Let's load in that new puzzle, please. (chime sfx)Two-word puzzle; five letters each. Mark, please roll away. (audience cheers as...) (Mark rolls)Starting with a 7. How do you play the 7, Mark?

(ding)And you're starting with a U and two Es. Mark, for the first time today, the danger zone is open. Rolls of 2 and 4 are unlucky. This means if you roll a 2 or 4, you lose control of the dice to Kourtney. With that, you may guess for $1200, roll again, or pass the dice.

(ASB win cue plays; audience applause) Woah! That's a first -- a solution after just one roll of the dice. And -- what's strange -- it's a reference to a bonus round from that other dice game on another network. (scattered laughter from crowd) Don't know why *we* are going there. (chimes; audience cheers) Ahhh -- maybe this bonus question will tell us why. Mark, since you solved that puzzle, you get dibs on the $750 question. Now the $750 is always a 50-50 proposition -- we offer two possible answers, the right answer and a bluff. If you choose the correct answer, you bank the $750. But if you pick the wrong answer, you obviously leave the right answer for Kourtney -- who banks the $750 by default. Mark, you enjoy the lead for now. Will you enjoy the lead after this question? Here it comes for $750... Because both teams ran out of pitchers, the 2002 Major League Baseball All-Star Game ended in a 7-7 tie. Did the controversial draw took place in Chicago or Milwaukee?

Milwaukee is right. (audience cheers)Mark, you vault further into the lead -- and -- I'm getting all sorts of indications from the floor Round 1 *will* continue. We usually don't play a third puzzle in Round 1. We're doing it now thanks to Mark's quick solve. Here it comes. (chime sfx)Just a nine-letter word this time -- and Kourtney, you're trailing. So you're rolling to start off. (audience cheers as...) (Kourtney rolls)Starting with a niner. How do you play a 9?

The nine itself.

If you solved the puzzle with just the N visible, I'd be amazed. With that, please roll again. (audience cheers as...) (Kourtney rolls)Big yo-leven. Obviously more than one number's coming out of this puzzle. Which ones, Kourtney?

The 6 and the 5.

(scattered groans) Ohh -- sounds like some in the audience know this already. Don't show out answers, please. Kourtney, roll away, please. (audience cheers as...) (Kourtney rolls)And -- I'm only saying this in deference to the earlier puzzle -- a lucky seven. How do you play it?

(ASB win cue plays; audience applause) There ya go. Crowd had it figured out one roll ago -- thanks to the K, the V, and probably the Vols baseball team that won it all recently. (scattered cheers) (tacky buzzer)For those of you watching us on Channel 6 in K-Town for the first time, that's not an editorial comment on your winning team. That's the indication time's up in Round 1. (scattered laughter from crowd) And what a barn burner we've got. Only $50 separate the players. We should have a dandy in Round 2 -- when you come back to the dice table for more of Lucky Numbers. (commercial cue plays; audience applauds)

(ASB cue plays; audience applauds) Welcome back to Lucky Numbers. It's been an exciting game so far on our refurbished set. We played three puzzles in Round 2 and we have a close game. Mark, our returning champion, has banked $1950. Kourtney, our challenger, just took the lead at the intermission with $2000. But here in Round 2, puzzles start at $2000. And sometime in this round, we have a follow-up question worth $1000. Remember, players, the next time we hear -- (tacky buzzer) -- that -- the game is over. Leading contestant at that moment wins the game and then plays the main event. Mark, since you're trailing by just a smidge, you'll get first crack at this next puzzle. (chime sfx)And there it is -- a nine-letter puzzle -- but in two words. Mark, away you go. (audience cheers as...) (Mark rolls)Low roll to start -- 4. How do you play it?

(ding) The letters U and D come into play. Easter egg to the University of Dayton Flyers, perhaps? (scattered laughter from crowd) "The West Wing" was notorious for that on another network. Mark, in any event, two unlucky rolls, 2 and 3. Guess for $1700 or roll again.

...or pass? I should offer that option -- and there's a third unlucky roll 4. Our mistake.
[NOTE FROM DOUG: Since the last line of the previous post should've read "Guess for $1700, roll again, or pass," I'm allowing Mark an extra 24 hours."]
