This, however, is worth clarifying. The Nordiques did win the Avco World Trophy in 1977 during their days in the World Hockey Association. The Nordiques joined the NHL in 1979 after the WHA folded.

The team won Lord Stanley's Cup in 1996, 2001 and 2022 since relocation to Denver and renaming of the team from Nordiques to Avalanche.
