[SIDE NOTE: If anyone other than our 4 players have some ideas for good clues, feel free to PM them to me and I might use them on the show.]
The board flashes for 7 seconds and
(ding ding ding)
Immanuel lands on one of his own squares. No harm, no foul there and that's worth twenty-five bucks.
George still has a 2-square lead. Here's our next clue:
This Oscar Wilde novel depicts the story of a man who sells his soul to have his portrait age so that he can remain young.

Yeah as a kid, my father showed me the 1945 film version of that story and I had nightmares of the final version of his portrait that reveals all his sins! - (audience chuckles) -
Play or pass this time Nels?

George, Nels is after you. Let's see if you can find one of those remaining open squares. Stop number please.

Is this 11-second spin going to pay off for George?
(ding ding ding) - (audience cheers) -
Oh boy, does it ever! That's another blue square and another $1,200 for George! - (audience applauds) -
(ding)
Only 6 squares to go and 3 of you still in play!
Here's the next clue:
This is one of the nicknames of the U.S. state of Georgia.

A 6-second spin for George this time results in (DAH DUHHHHHHHHH)
big trouble!
George, that pass worked, but ironically not for Nels but for Immanuel! That is how cut throat this game can be sometimes as you go from leading to out of the game just like that.
(ding)
You do get to keep the money you've earned though George, so we know you'll be going home with at least $2,975 but of course it takes 2 games to win the match so you might yet be our champion! For now though, I'll ask you to join Bryan in the Green Room and wait for Game 2.
Nels, that strategy worked, well, sort of I guess. George is out, but I'm sure you were hoping you'd have 10 squares right now and not have Immanuel with 11. That's where we are though with 6 open squares remaining and down to just the two of you eligible to win Game 1.
Here's the next clue:
This national park was established in 1872 and is spread out across portions of 3 western U.S. states.

No, that is incorrect. Remember, part of the correct answer will always contain a color.
Nels, do you know it?

You got it.
So here is the predicament you face. If you pass now, it's only a 15% chance that Immanuel lands on one of your 3 squares. If he does though, you win the game. The play odds are better, but only by a little bit, since there are 9 squares that you can safely stop on (the 6 still available and the 3 of your own) which equates to 45%. If you play though and land on one of Immanuel's 11 squares, he wins the game.
It's a tough call either way Nels, so think it over and then tell me, is it play or is it pass?

Ok Immanuel, the odds are quite good for you - 85% chance of landing on a safe square. Hit a green one though and that's all she wrote for Game 1. Your stop number please sir.

A 7-second spin for Immanuel lands him on (ding ding ding) one of his own squares, which nets you another twenty-five bucks. Here's the next clue: This type of poisoning that can lead to cardiac arrest is relatively common following breathing in smoke from a house fire.

I think it’s called Carbon Monoxide Poisoning.

It's not exactly what I was looking, but I'm going to give it to you. I was looking for cyanide poisoning (with cyan as the color), however that type of poisoning does derive from the cyano group that does consist of a carbon atom and since carbon is a type of black color, I'm going to allow it.
Play or pass Immanuel?

Immanuel is risking landing on one of those 3 green squares. Is luck on his side with this spin?
(DUH DAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH) - (audience gasps) -
Oh no! Immanuel, you've stopped on Nels' green square near the top-right corner and that means Nels wins the game!
(ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding) - (audience cheers) -
I think you might have been confused by what was the most important there Immanuel. Yes, you were trailing in the money amount, but you were in possession of 11 squares compared to Nels having only 3 squares, so the prudent move there would have been to pass and force Nels to play. He had a 55% chance of landing on one of your squares, in which case you'd have won!
Still, those odds though, you only had a 15% chance of landing on one of those green squares, but dang if you didn't do it! That's tough luck Immanuel, but as I said to George, it does take two game wins to win the match, so you are far from out of it and you do get to keep your $500 from this game.
Nels, congratulations! You've won the first game and have $750, however you earn $50 for every one of those 14 green squares, so that's a total of
(ding ding ding ding ding ding ding)
$1,450!
- (audience begins continuous applause as theme begins to play) -
What a finish to that game! After all those passes we had, it ends with a play that probably should have been a pass. Nels Snesrud is now in the driver's seat and needs just one more win to become our first-ever champion! Can he do it with two game wins in a row? We'll find out when we return with Game 2 of Color Wars, right after this bit of business! Don't go away, we'll be right back!
- (wide angle shot of the whole set; applause and music continues; fade to black) -
