Me: Good day to all of you, and welcome to another exciting installment of Top Card. We have a lot of cash and prizes to give away today. Clément, you did pretty well on our last show. You racked up almost $9000 in cash and prizes. You're also two games away from our special prize package that is awarded to undefeated champions.  (ooohs from audience) We'll talk more about that later in the show.  Are there people you would like to say hello to?

Me: Fair enough. Lots of luck to you today. Normally, Leslie would be introducing the challengers. However, she isn't here today, but filling in for her, we have the beautiful and bubbly Sophie Richardson! (Applause)



Hello, Sophie!



Sophie: Hello, Joe! I'm ready to deal some cards today.


Me:  We're all glad you were able to fill in for Leslie.  Sounds like you're ready and chomping at the bit!

Sophie:  Indeed I am.

Me:  Can't say that I blame you.  We got a lot at stake today. I know these gentlemen want to claim all that loot! Who is here to try to defeat our champion?



Sophie: Our first contestant is a Philadelphia sports buff and a Fan of "Deal or No Deal" model Jill Manas. From Marlton, NJ, meet Michael Clifford. (Applause)



Me: Welcome, Michael. Are you ready for the upcoming Phillies Baseball season? I hear they will play against the Red Sox first.

That is correct.  They are facing off against my other favorite baseball team.  I am also ready for the upcoming Phillies season just so I can see who they will trade next. 

(audience laughter)

Me:  Then, in turn, more baseball cards will be traded.  Now I get it.  (deafening silence)  Okay, Sophie, who is our other challenger?

Sophie:  This here is Matt Ringgenberg.  He is a supermarket courtesy clerk from Council Bluffs, IA.  (applause)

Me: Sounds like you and I have something in common.  I worked in the customer service office at a supermarket as well, and I'm sure we could swap horror stories.  What's the most ridiculous thing you've witnessed a customer do?

[mringgenberg]

Nothing really that I can think of.

Me:  Okay, that's fair enough.  Let's go ahead and play Top Card!  (applause as Sophie and I take our positions).

Gentlemen, the object is get as close to 21 without busting.  You earn cards by correctly answering questions here on the board.  Once you see the card, you have the decision to either keep the card, or exchange it for the Top Card on Sophie's deck.  The cards on the board are drawn from a separate deck.  At any time, you can freeze, but if either of your opponent gets a better score, they win the round.  The winner will receive $1000, but get any 21, your award will augment to $2100!  (Applause).  Aces in this version count as 1 or 11 depending on your total, and mind the deadlines.  They will be at 11:59:59 PM EST the following day.  Miss the first deadline, you lose control of the board (and the card will now be thrown out, if applicable.) Two missed deadlines in a round results in automatic forfeiture.
