Thanks, Gentlemen! We'll get round one underway in a few moments. Please check your inbox for the questions. I do want to alert you to one of the questions in round one. One of the questions is an estimated guess question which is explained in the message. As always, the buzzcodes range from 1-100.

Me: Fair enough. Lots of luck to you today. Normally, Leslie would be introducing the challengers. However, she isn't here today, but filling in for her, we have the beautiful and bubbly Sophie Richardson! (Applause)
Hello, Sophie!
Sophie: Hello, Joe! I'm ready to deal some cards today.
Me: We're all glad you were able to fill in for Leslie. Sounds like you're ready and chomping at the bit!
Sophie: Indeed I am.
Me: Can't say that I blame you. We got a lot at stake today. I know these gentlemen want to claim all that loot! Who is here to try to defeat our champion?
Sophie: Our first contestant is a Philadelphia sports buff and a Fan of "Deal or No Deal" model Jill Manas. From Marlton, NJ, meet Michael Clifford. (Applause)
Me: Welcome, Michael. Are you ready for the upcoming Phillies Baseball season? I hear they will play against the Red Sox first.

That is correct. They are facing off against my other favorite baseball team. I am also ready for the upcoming Phillies season just so I can see who they will trade next.

Me: Then, in turn, more baseball cards will be traded. Now I get it. (deafening silence) Okay, Sophie, who is our other challenger?
Sophie: This here is Matt Ringgenberg. He is a supermarket courtesy clerk from Council Bluffs, IA. (applause)
Me: Sounds like you and I have something in common. I worked in the customer service office at a supermarket as well, and I'm sure we could swap horror stories. What's the most ridiculous thing you've witnessed a customer do?

Me: Okay, that's fair enough. Let's go ahead and play Top Card! (applause as Sophie and I take our positions). Gentlemen, the object is get as close to 21 without busting. You earn cards by correctly answering questions here on the board. Once you see the card, you have the decision to either keep the card, or exchange it for the Top Card on Sophie's deck. The cards on the board are drawn from a separate deck. At any time, you can freeze, but if either of your opponent gets a better score, they win the round. The winner will receive $1000, but get any 21, your award will augment to $2100! (Applause). Aces in this version count as 1 or 11 depending on your total, and mind the deadlines. They will be at 11:59:59 PM EST the following day. Miss the first deadline, you lose control of the board (and the card will now be thrown out, if applicable.) Two missed deadlines in a round results in automatic forfeiture.Having that said, here are the categories for round one: Clément, as reigning champion, you select first. Good luck to all players. Please select before 11:59:59 PM EST Monday.

Clément: This board can act like a curmudgeon at times. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt this time without penalty.
Anyhoots, this is an educated guess question. Using your touchpads in front of you, contestants, you will type in your response. The one who is closest to the correct answer wins the card. Should someone get the exact answer, they will win a $500 bonus. Buzzcodes break the tie, if any. The Imperial House of Japan, also known as the Yamato Dynasty began with Emperor Jimmu in what year, BC?
(DING! DING! DING!)
All of the contestants have locked in an answer. Let's see them now.
Clement: 122
Michael: 660
Matt: 400
Me: The founding year of the Yamato Dynasty is ( School bell ringing in march time, applause) 660 BC! Michael, you got it on the money! (Walks over to Michael's podium) Here are five crisp $100 bills! Let's all count them out! ONE - TWO - THREE - FOUR - FIVE! (cheers) Let's see what card will start the game off with: The two of spades. Would you like to keep it, Michael, or take the top card off Sophie's deck? (Audience yells out ideas.) Your deadline is 11:59:59 PM EDT Wednesday.

Me: Well, is about another Barbara, Barbara Eden in fact. Barbara Eden was NOT on which TV Show: I dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, or How to Marry a Millionaire? (BC:32)
Matt: 61 Michael: 32 (DING) Clément: 100Me: Michael; hard on the plunger! Michael: Bewitched. (Applause) Me: That's right. It was Elizabeth Montgomery who was on that show. If the card behind "Santa Barbara" is an ace, you have another $2100! Let's see if an ace pops up if I do this.... (folds hands and nods like Jeannie) No, but you have a king! (Applause) It would give you 20. Keep it and freeze or gamble on the top card? (Suggestions are voiced) Michael, your deadline is 11:59:59 PM EST Saturday.

(Applause, Freeze Sound effect) Me: The audience seems to like your decision. If neither opponent gets to 21, then you, Michael will be going to the Championship Round with a grand total of $1500 cash. Control now goes to Clément. Seven categories remain; which one is next? Please choose by 11:59:59 PM EST Sunday.

I hope you are versed in sports teams; hands on your plungers. The Cowboys are their football team. What is Dallas' NBA team called? (BC:5) Matt: 69 Clément: 58 (DING!) Me: Clément? Clément: The Mavericks. (Applause) Right you are. They were NBA champions back in 2011, if I recall. Anyway, let's see your card. AN ACE! (Cheers) A championship won in '11, and an ace can be worth 11. What would you like to do? Keep it, or take the top card? (Audience is one-sided...) Clément, please decide by 11:59:59 PM EDT Sunday.

Speaking of lives and extra lives, What fungal object earns a player one extra life in the Super Mario Bros. video games? (BC:75)
Matt: 39 Clément: 49 (DING)
Me: Clément, once again.
Clément: A green mushroom (applause)
Me: Yes, indeed. Though at this point, a ten would be a lifesaver for our champion. Let's see what it is... (Sustained bell, theme starts, cheers) Me: THAT'S A WIN! (Sophie cheers as I approach the contestants' podiums) Me: What can I say, Michael? A 20 was tough to beat, but Clément found the right cards. To our round winner, we say congratulations, Clément! You'll be going to the Championship Round. With the $2100 you just earned, you have won so far on Top Card in cash and prizes: (ooohs and applause) Should you pick off an ace and 10 in the bonus round like you did in this one, you'll be going home with a grand total over $100,000. Matt, too bad you didn't get a chance to play in this round, but you'll play against Michael in the next round. The winner of the next round will play against Clément for the right to go to the bonus round. Don't go away! We'll be back with more of this exciting installment of Top Card!

(cold open) Me: Welcome back, everyone. We have some more cash to give away, hopefully another $2100. One of these two players will attempt to de-throne Clément in the Championship Round; however, we won't know until we get this round started. Hands on plungers, please for the toss up. Which natural disaster hit Bengkulu, Indonesia, in 2000, leaving 94 dead? (BC:64)
Matt: Passed Michael: 23 (DING!)Me: Michael, for control of the round. Michael: an earthquake (applause) Me: You are right. With that correct response, you get to pick from one of these categories: Please decide by 11:59:59 PM EST Wednesday, or control passes to Matt.

Attention Contestants:
I just realized that in the category of "Sports Siblings", the answer was inadvertently given. Therefore, I am throwing out that question and inboxing you two a replacement question in the same category. You may change your buzzcode, if you wish. However, I am keeping the same buzzcode for the new question. I apologize for the error.

Who sang what now? Buzz in if you know who had a 90s hit with her version of The Shoop Shoop Song? BC:54
Matt: Passed
Michael: 66 (DING)
Me: Michael, to answer. Michael: Cher (Applause) Me: That is correct. She asks, do you believe in life after love? I tell her, I got you babe. (Crickets) Let's take a look at the first card. An eight. What would you like to do? Keep it or exchange it for the top card, Michael? Please decide by 11:59:59 PM EST Thursday.
