There are a lot of us here on NGC, myself included, that have been around since the days of a forum run by Jonathan Williams, better known as BigJon. I still recall finding his website for the first time and sitting there in disbelief that I could download free versions of my favorite game shows. I was even more blown away after installing his "Price is Right" game and seeing that I could play not a few or a dozen, but over a hundred pricing games! Well, that was more than a decade ago and BigJon's Price is one of the only games from back then that I still play to this day. With the recent tragic volcanoes that occurred in Hawaii and Guatemala, I started to think about making some type of donation. After that, I got to thinking that maybe this could be a show we could do on here that could be fun and helpful at the same time. Beyond that, another thought that has occurred to me over the years is to somehow show my gratitude to BigJon for all the various forms of entertainment he has brought us over the years, from his PC games to the net games we played on his old forum to his current Twitch streams where he gives away a lot of real cash and prizes. This is how I came to the idea of "The Price is Right Donation Special" where we are going to play out an episode of the $1,000,000 Spectacular, using BigJon's game and using the values of the prizes to determine the amount of the donation. Before I got too far into this though, I wanted to get permission from Jon to use his game on here, so recently, I gave him a small tip on his stream so that he wouldn't miss my question and here's what he said:
Now, you may be asking, who is going to be making the donations on this show? The short answer is...me. Here is what I have in mind: - I will donate $1 for every $1,000 in total prize money won on the show to a GoFundMe campaign setup for some natural disaster - I will donate $1 for every $1,000 in total prize money won on the show as a tip to BigJon on one of his upcoming streams (shhh, don't tell him, let's surprise him!) We will be playing Barker Mode for the $1,000,000 Spectacular, meaning that if you spin $1.00 in your bonus spin in either Showcase Showdown or in the show-ending additional spin for the Showcase winner, you would win $1,000,000 in fake prize money on the show. If that happens, my real money upper limit of $1,000 USD will kick in, meaning I would donate $500 to the GoFundMe and $500 to BigJon. As for the show itself, here's some notes on it: - Some portions of the show will be recorded to video and linked in the thread so that you can watch them play out (the opening, all wheel spins, some portions of pricing games and the Showcase reveals) - We'll be playing 6 classic pricing games, including at least 3 games for cars - The show will feature updated prizes, including 2018 vehicles, 4K TVs and modern bed/living/dining room groups, just to name a few - We may even see someone get a chance at an airplane! The "audience" seats up to 22 people, but I need a minimum of 10 in order to play. To keep this a bit of a surprise for everyone, please DO NOT reply to this thread to sign-up, but send me a PM instead if you are interested in being "in the audience" and therefore an eligible contestant. For those not familiar with BigJon's Price is Right, it plays out exactly like the TV show and the game itself randomly selects the contestants from the audience. If you have any questions, please post them here, but again, to be eligible to play, PM me. I plan to start the show on July 1st, so please PM me before then if interested in participating. Cheers, Glen

(We have the minimum audience for the game now, so the show is on -- I'm going to bump once now and once more during the week to fill up some of the empty seats in the audience, so the studio door is open for a few more days -- PM me if interested. The show will begin sometime this coming weekend).

Okay, our audience is set. My thanks to those of you who have signed up. We will start most likely sometime on Saturday. A couple of notes about the show: 1) A 48-hour rule will be in effect. If you haven't made a post in the vacation thread saying you're unavailable and it's your turn and you haven't responded on this thread in 48 hours, we will proceed without you. This will mean different things depending on what portion of the show we are in, as follows: - If we are bidding in Contestant's Row, you will be assigned an automatic overbid of $9,999
- If we are playing a pricing game, I will choose someone else from Contestant's Row to play it instead
- If we are spinning the wheel, I will choose a Medium strength of spin by default and spin it myself
- If we are in the Showcase round, you will be assigned an automatic overbid of $999,999
2) I think BigJon's Price is the best TPIR game out there, but occasionally, it does crash to desktop for no apparent reason. I plan to take a backup of my environment during each commercial break. It is for this reason that, unlike the real Price MDS shows, I will have a commercial following the first pricing game whereas they played two games before the first break. If a game crash occurs, I will inform you on the thread about it and we will roll back to my most recent backup and continue the show from that point, with different results, since it's the game itself that chooses the prizes and not me. Again, hopefully, this doesn't occur but if it does, that is how we'll handle it. Once again, we'll get underway sometime this coming weekend. I look forward to it!

* I enter the studio from the back door, giving high-fives as I come down the aisle and up the stairs to the stage *
I, welcome you, to The Price is Right Donation Special! (audience continues applauding)
I thank you folks! Right there is the first item up for bids!
"It's a ventless fireplace!" (audience applauds)
"Inspired by the Tuscany region of Italy, this magnificent Aico ventless fireplace is reminiscent of rustic, Italian craftsmanship presented in a style that boasts luxury with a relaxed aesthetic. The combination of carved leaf elements and uniquely shaped casing offer a substantial proportion without being oversized."
We will present that fireplace to the one of you four that bids nearest to its actual retail price without going over. We want your bid in dollars, because we round the retail prices to the nearest dollar and we want Kevin to bid first!

Kevin is now praying for a buzzer or a bell. Let's find out...the actual retail price of the fireplace is...
...twenty-eight fifteen and the winner is David! (audience continues applauding as David joins me on stage)
Kevin probably wouldn't agree, but that was a good piece of bidding there, David. Tell us a little something about yourself before we proceed here, will you please?

Well, it's a pleasure to have you up here as our first on-stage contestant, David! Since this is a donation special, I am donating one dollar for every $1,000 in prize amounts won to two worthy recipients. One is Jonathan Williams a.k.a. BigJon, without whom this show could not have existed. The other is a GoFundMe campaign related to some unfortunate situation that has happened to an individual or group somewhere in the world. The fireplace you just won was worth $2,815 which means $2.82 so far for BigJon and $2.82 so far for the GoFundMe. I hate to say it, but most likely as this show unfolds, there will be some terrible event that occurs somewhere on the planet that a GoFundMe campaign will be setup for. So, for now, I have not decided which campaign I will be donating to, but I will choose one and announce it towards the end of the show. I am also going to offer each contestant the chance to suggest one that might be near and dear to their heart. The campaign you choose must be for the benefit of someone else and not for yourself and should be related to some type of hardship the person or group is facing for some reason, such as medical bills, loss due to earthquake, fire, flood, etc. You can use the search option at the top of www.gofundme.com/ to search for a campaign, such as one near your town or state, or you can search by type as well. So before we proceed David, if you like, please make a suggestion regarding whom we donate to or you can leave it up to me if you prefer.

Alright, well I've got something pretty spiffy for you on the other side of that door! David, you've got a chance to win this...
"The 2018 GMC Acadia mid-size SUV is designed to make a lasting impression. Its bold, sculptural lines, advanced technologies and refined details are the mark of Professional Grade engineering. Acadia’s flexible, accommodating space and functionality is seamlessly melded with style, safety, and technology.
It's a new GMC Acadia!"
Oh David, I can see you whipping around the highways and back roads of Virginia in that beauty!
The game for you is 3 Strikes. We're going to help you a bit by giving you the first digit in the price, which is...
(ding)
...a three! That vehicle is worth more than thirty thousand dollars, David!
Now, unfortunately, I must place one of these bad boys in the bag...
That's a strike if you draw that from the bag and you're out of the game if you draw it three times, so let's hope that's the last we see of that chip. There are four other chips in play, representing the remaining numbers in the price of that Acadia and they are...
...seven, zero, five and eight.
* drops chips in the bag, reaches down and shuffles them thoroughly *
Think number now David as you reach in there, pull out a number and tell me where it goes in the price of that Acadia!

David says five is the second number in the price. Is that right? (ding) (audience applauds)
It sure is! It's a thirty-five thousand dollar automobile David, that's what it is! Do that again! Reach in there and get another number!

David says the third number is seven. (bzzzzzzzz)
No, the third number is not seven. That's your first mistake, but that's okay because that's not a strike.
* puts the seven back in the bag and mixes them up *
Reach in there and get that seven again David and try it someplace else.
