(lights in studio gradually are turned on)
(audience cheers)Helloooo, everybody, I'm Doug Morris. Welcome to the game where 13 can be your lucky number. And we welcome back our two contestants from the last show -- Michael Clifford and Matt Johnson. Michael won our last match -- but you'll recall we had a discrepancy during game play. So the best thing to do was let the runner-up of the match play against the winner. So that's what we're doing. Michael, so far, has won $10,500. Matt's racked up 12-large. Before we start this rematch, let's talk about the neighborhoods you came from to be here. Matt, we learned earlier you're from New York. When someone visits New York, what are the first few things you'd recommend they visit?

Well, I'm not technically in New York, but I'm close enough to the city that I know what to do.
So, what's good? Definitely see something on Broadway, you can't really go wrong with what you choose. Times Square has some nice stuff too, but it gets crowded. Just don't get lost in the subway, and you'll be fine.

Well you can certain afford several trips on the subway with the money you've won so far. You'll win more tonight -- as will Michael. Michael, on the last show, we learned you're in the Philadelphia area -- 6ABC country. What would you recommend to the tourists who visit Philly and the Delaware Valley?

For Philadelphia, there's always Independence Hall & the Liberty Bell. My recommendation is Geno's Steaks for an authentic "Wiz Wit" cheesesteak. Don't go to Pat's because they suck. (audience laughter)
As for South Jersey, there's always the shore. There's great places like Long Beach Island, Seaside Heights, Ocean City, The Wildwoods, & Cape May. Atlantic City is also okay as well as long as you find a casino that hasn't closed yet. (audience laughter)

Well, I am pleased to tell you my oldest niece and her husband went to Atlantic City about three or four years ago -- before the bad news hit about those casinos. To those affected by the closures, we wish you brighter days ahead. Michael, Matt, good luck. Remember, the first player to win $5000 wins the match. Time to start Game 1 -- worth $2500 to the victor and $500 to the runner-up. As in the regular dice game of Crag, our game is all about numbers -- particularly the numbers you can roll on dice. The right answer to every question on our show is a number between 1 and 6 inclusive. Sometimes, we'll ask for the ordinal number or Roman numeral equivalent of one of those numbers -- and then there are the missing digit questions to watch out for. I'll explain how they work when we get close to one. (ding)We're going to start off the match with a missing digit question. And away we go. Single digit question: In racing, how many different words are represented by the initials BMX? 44 Jill Manas Fan 62 mjyr1 11 randomizer.org (Michael buzzes in) Michael?

Michael says 2 words. Does he say right? (ding; audience applause)Yes. In BMX, the B stands for Bicycle; the MX for Motocross. Michael, as you know, with that right answer, you earn the maximum two rolls of our Crag dice. If you like the combination you make on your first roll, take the points and we'll move on to the next round. But if you want the second roll, you may freeze up to two dice and reroll the rest. The big screen over here is displaying the ways you can score big on Crag: The Numbers Game. There are four different straights worth 20 points each. The numbers 1-2-3 make a low straight. A 4-5-6 lead to a high straight. A 1-3-5 mean an odd straight -- leaving 2-4-6 for an even straight. It doesn't matter the order the numbers appear on the Crag dice -- just as long as all three numbers are different and they're all low, all high, all odd or all even. It gets better from here -- because if you roll three of the same number, that's a triple for 25 points. And as we often say 'round these parts, 13 is a lucky number in this game. Anytime the dice total 13, we'll double the sum for 26. However -- if that combination of 13 includes a pair of a particular number, that's what we call a Crag. And a Crag is worth 50 big points. (audience cheers)(rolling sfx)Crag dice are rolling. Michael, you'll stop them one at a time by hitting your buzzer.

(ding)Starting with a 2. (ding)Following with a 1. (ding) (audience groans)Annd -- a 2 on the end. Obviously not a combination worth 20 or more. Michael, you may take the sum of the dice in points -- 5 in this case -- or freeze up to two screens and reroll the remainder. I have an idea of what you want to do -- but please tell me what you want to do.

Kinda making like Phil Collins and the rest of Genesis -- by throwing 'em all away. You may do that -- and let's reroll all the dice. (rolling sfx)And stop 'em when you're ready. (ding)A 1 this time. (ding)There's a 2. (ding) (scattered groans) Well -- at least you traded up. The 5 on the end with the 1 and 2 give you... ...8 points. Remember, there are two ways to win a game -- be the first to reach 100 points or come closer to 100 after ten rounds. Round 2's about to start -- and we're going to play a missing digit question. Matt and Michael know how this works. For those who don't, let's play an example. (ding)This is the numeric title of a hit song by Prince. All you have to do is signal and tell me the missing digit. In this case... (ding)...it's a 1 to complete the title "1999". Oddly enough, 1999 was the first year my Spurs won the NBA championship. As I throw in a quick "Go Spurs Go", we'll now clear the board and get ready for the intended question. Missing digit question: Robert Englund is best known for his portrayal of Freddy Krueger in several "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies. But he's also tried his hand at directing -- including the 1988 movie "976-EVIL". If you were going to dial 976-EVIL on a phone, I'll show you the actual digits in the phone number's suffix. Tell me the missing digit.(ding)59 Jill Manas Fan 36 mjyr1 09 randomizer.org(Matt buzzes in)Matt?

99/99=1, so x=1.
(BTW, "99" is also a great song by Toto.)

Showing your work, I see. Did he at least solve this correctly -- and does "x" equal 1? (ding; audience applause) Got it -- and Michael was all over it. Barbara Feldon was Agent 99. Wayne Gretzky was number 99 and number 1 in the hearts of many hockey fans. He was so great, the NHL retired 99 throughout the league and he became a hall-of-famer soon thereafter. (rolling sfx)Michael, if Matt can get a Crag in one fell swoop, who's to say you can't? Let's see what happens.

Michael's score roughly doubles to 17 on that one. Matt still with 50. Next question's about government. Ordinal number question: Which of the constitutional amendments gives Americans the right to bear arms?

I had to do a research paper on this once for school. It went terribly.

Well, let's see if things turned around from that. Are we talking about the 2nd Amendment? (ding; audience applause)We sure are. Matt, if you can roll another Crag, you'll have 100 points right on the nose and quickly win the first game of this match. Let's get the dice rolling. (rolling sfx)And Matt, they lock into your buzzer one at a time.

(Bump for Matt -- and an extra 24 hours to make a move. In trying to log on to this board, I saw an apparent brief outage. It's possible Matt had similar bad luck in attempting to log in. So, to err on the side of caution, Matt has an extra 24 hours to either stop and take 6 points or reroll.)

Rerolling all the dice. You may do that as we freeze nothing and set 'em all in motion. (rolling sfx)And away they go. (ding)Starting with a 1 this time. (ding)There's a 2. (ding) (scattered applause) And Matt makes it as easy as 1-2-3 to roll a low straight for 20 points. Matt with a commanding lead in this opening game 70 to 17 over Michael.
