(time's up)But it's not enough, and Steven remains the champ! (win fanfare)
Doug: But it hasn't *always* been serious business. Greg often finds ways to bring fun to the proceedings -- especially during instant bargains.
(Mitch and the gang join Ronn Moss as they play a cover of "Baby Come Back")Stacey: Kourtney and Matt, you could be rocking out to smooth jams with this bass guitar. Meticulously crafted in the Czech Republic, the CR RADIUS Bass Guitar embodies a breadth of experience, insight, and design brilliance which only Ned Steinberger can bring to the creation of a new classic. As a whole, this instrument is perfectly balanced, no downward dip of the neck, giving the left hand unprecedented freedom. The shape, balance and light weight of the RADIUS combine to make this instrument exceptionally comfortable. Furnished by NS Designs. And it's normally priced at....$3,950But tonight, it's yours on $ale of the Century for only....$6(audience cheers as I join them) Greg: Well if it isn't Ridge Forrester! I was just by your place recently. It seems not much is getting done, huh? (Ronn just laughs) No, really, guys, this is Ronn Moss. He used to be Ridge Forrester on another network, but he's since been replaced. How are you doing? Ronn: Just great, getting the band back together. We'll be going on tour soon. It should be fun. Doug: And that's what $ale is all about -- fun -- even when the Fame Game offers the unusual.
Greg: Where's the $10 tonight, Stacey? (lights in motion)Stacey: Behind number 9, number 9, number 9.Greg: Land on that sawbuck and you'll go into the lead, Sam. Good luck, and fire when ready. Sam: A sawbuck would never hurt!(he stops)Well, aim like that didn't help. You land on #8 and you get this prize. [WHEEL THEME]Pete: (VO) Congratulations, Sam, you've won a lovely assortment of vowels from "Wheel of Fortune". Now you won't have to buy any.(audience laughs) Greg: Now wait a minute. Wait just a minute here. Sam, we're going to give you the cash value of each of those vowels. Each one costs $250, so five of them total $1,250 in cash. That's yours to keep regardless of how well you do in the game.
(clips from other shows) Doug: $ale of the Century -- one of few netgames to stand the test of time. A great blend of Q&A, comedy, fabulous prizes and a golden chance to take home some seriously loot. Tonight, we honor Greg Palmer's work on $ale of the Century -- with a lifetime achievement award.

(I walk on stage and am handed a Lifetime Achievement Award)
Thank you so much. It's a great honor to be here and to get this award. You know, those are some of my favorite clips. I still hang out on occasion on The Bold and The Beautiful, and now that I'm taping Card Sharks at Television City, it's even easier to do. Although, I do have one question. Why does Bill get Kiefer Sutherland and I get the hosts from the Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour? (audience laughs)
Anyway, I owe a lot to the original hosts of $ale. First, there were Jack Kelly and Joe Garagiola, and we actually owe a lot to them. If their runs had not been a success, Reg Grundy would not have developed it for his country, and turned it into the success it became, what the show is really based on. Tony Barber is my role model. He had the style, the grace, the charisma, the attitude that makes a great host. However, there is another great influencer. While Australians were enjoying Tony Barber, Americans had the late Jim Perry. I owe a lot to him, too. When $ale reruns started popping up on GSN and YouTube, I watched them eagerly. More so the pre-1987 episodes than any others.
$ale is more than just a game show, much more than just "America's Biggest Bargain Sale". It's a representation of the American dream. If you're smart enough and you put in the effort, you get paid. You may have a chance to buy a temporary pleasure, or save up for the win. If you're smart enough, fast enough, and gutsy enough, you can come out on top. If you work hard and believe in yourself, you will be a winner. And with the new Winners' Board, you could instantly strike it rich. There is no wealth redistribution here, no psuedo-Socialism, nothing of that nature. It's capitalism at its finest. President Trump said we were going to make America great again, and that is what $ale of the Century is doing! We are making America great again!
There are so many people I'd like to thank. There's Jennifer Mullin and her crew at FremantleMedia, of which Grundy is still part. There's the crew at NBC and Fox, best people in the world. Doug Morris, Tony Lane, Steven Anderson, my agent, his agent, all of my announcers, the models, Stacey, all the substitute co-hosts we've had, Tony Barber, Glenn Ridge, Ed Phillips---- Barber let me pick his brain during the nine or so months I was traveling from Melbourne to Los Angeles sub-hosting for Cameron Shields. Cameron, I'd like to thank him, too. Oh, there are so many people. The first 58 episodes have been great, we hope to reach at least 100! Keep smiling, thank you!

(cheers and applause) Greg: Thank you. And now, the award for Best Host. You know, a game show host is part traffic cop, part ringmaster, part used car salesman. They ask the hard questions, they make the contestants feel at home, and they give away the network's or producer's money. To some hardcore game show fanatics, the skills of the host, and his sincerity, can make or break a show's success, and they seem to be right: Some of the more successful game shows are known in part for how the host carried the show along. And the nominees we have tonight are some of the greatest. Here are this year's nominees for Best Host. (shot of Doug Morris) Doug Morris! (audience cheers) (shot of Tony Lane) Tony Lane! (audience cheers) (shot of me) Me, Greg Palmer! (audience cheers) (shot of Kevin Kolsen) And Kevin Kolsen! (audience cheers) (back to me) And the NGA goes to...... (I open the envelope) DOUG MORRIS![ON A ROLL THEME](cheers and applause as Doug comes up to accept his award) Burton: (VO) This is the second solo award Doug Morris has won tonight, and the third award for him in general.

Seriously, this is a humbling moment. I thank you for the honor. I think the brightest moments for all the net games that we all host are still to come. Thank you.

Thank you. Greg was telling me backstage hosting these awards are fun. And indeed this is fun. Greg was thinking about nominating himself as host of the American Music Awards. (audience laughs and applauds) If the network has a choice between him, Ryan Seacrest and Steve Harvey -- (audience laughs and applauds) -- may the brass choose Greg -- PLEASE! (audience laughs and applauds) But enough about hosts. Let's talk players. We can't have a netgame without players. The nominees for best netgame players are... (shot of Bill McDee in his seat) ...Bill McDee... (audience applauds) ...and Matt Ringgenberg. (audience applauds) (Doug opens envelope) And the winner of the award for best player is -- Bill McDee! (audience cheers)

(my jaw is literally agape)
Ladies and gentlemen, thank you. In all the years of doing this NetGame thing, one of the most loyal and biggest participants as a contestant is Matt Ringgenberg.
To have been nominated along with him as best contestant was a very kind and sweet surprise.
To have received the award for best contestant in 2017, after having won best host in a prior year, truly touches my heart and humbles me deeply.
Today is an extra special day for me, for not only receiving this award, but for the reward of 14 years of patience, prayer and dedication, mostly from my wife, to get to see our son, also named Matt, graduate from high school this evening.
Lastly, on an even more personal note, Friday, June 9th was my son's final day of attending school before starting college in the fall. June 9th was the 16th anniversary of my Mother's passing. She was a very big fan of game shows, and I had the great good fortune of growing up and remembering practically all of the 1970s, often watching shows with her, even on a black and white set early on.
My heart was heavy last Friday, thinking upon her, realizing it was the end of an era for my son's school career, and the beginning of the next chapter of his life. Added to that heavy heartedness was learning of the passing of one of my childhood heroes, Adam West, who portrayed Batman in brilliant fashion right here on this very network, ABC from 1966 - 1968. I was always in awe of Batman's smarts, and wanted to be smart in that sense. That I receive this best contestant award to me seems most fitting.
I thank you for your kind indulgences ladies and gentlemen. Good night. (Taking a humble bow and then looking toward the sky and exiting stage left)
