Perhaps the shock of winning big at the money cards hasn't worn off yet. Seriously -- congratulations, Matt, and good luck to you today. And good luck to Greg, our challenger. Greg won the Card Sharks/CBS North Carolina contestant search over there in the Research Triangle area -- home of the champion Tar Heels. (audience cheers)Either we have supporters of Greg, the Tar Heels or a combination of both. (scattered laughter from the crowd) Greg, please tell us more about yourself.

Well, I'm a movie theater staff member born at Duke, and I earned by Bachelor's Degree at NC State--- GO WOLFPACK! (I form the wolf ears or whatever with my hand) --- and I think the Tar Heels are some of the most overrated, low-information liberals I've ever seen in my life. I should know, I watch Fox News.

Uhhh -- before this gets ugly, players, did you cut the cards?

Then let's play some Card Sharks. Object for the players is to work their way across this board -- predicting whether each card is higher or lower than the one that precedes it. Mixed into each player's deck -- 52 standard playing cards plus six bonus cards worth cash and prizes. We'll talk more about that later. Before we can play the cards... ...we have to deal with G2-T2, who'll be having a cameo appearance in the next "Star Wars" movie. (scattered laughter from the crowd) He keeps our toss-up questions -- most of which are based on surveys. And from time to time we'll have an educated guess question. Matt, you're the champ. You'll get first crack at this question. Judge Joseph Wapner, who recently passed away, was the judge on the original version of the TV series "The People's Court". A survey indicated he was more recognizable than then Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist. So, we surveyed 100 people, from the here and now, to name the *current* Supreme Court Chief Justice. How many knew the current Chief Justice is John Roberts?

It's kind of hard to recognize sometimes so its going to be a middle number. 57

|
Post by dougmorrisontheair on Apr 12, 2017 6:35:18 GMT -5
(ding) Matt says 57 people out of 100 correctly identified Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts as such. Greg, do you think the actual number is higher or lower than 57?
|
|
|
Post by palmer7 on Apr 12, 2017 9:53:05 GMT -5
Well, aside from Neil Gorsuch, I don't think a lot of people can identify the Chief Justice. I know I can't. I'm going to go with the odds and say lower.

(ding) Probably goes without saying -- but we'll note we took this poll when there was a vacancy on the high court over the year plus since Antonin Scalia's passing. The vacancy since filled by Justice Gorsuch. But the actual number of people who knew John Roberts is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court -- *is*... (dings; audience applause) ...42. Greg's got it. Greg, your first chance to play the cards comes now. Since you won the question, you may play off of -- or change -- your base card -- which is... ...a 7. (scattered groans) Forgive the dumb question -- but want to play off of the 7 or change it?

Change it. Get it out of my sight, please.

Gladly ditching the 7. You must play off of... ...a 3. (audience cheers) Is the next card higher or lower?

Higher!

Higher than a 3. (buzz; audience groans) (Doug's annoyed grunt) Greg -- sorry -- but you don't get anything for a pair. Audience: Not in this game. Matt, this means you get a free chance at the cards. You may not change your base card -- which is... (audience cheers) ...a deuce!

Good answer, good answer!

Post by dougmorrisontheair on Apr 14, 2017 6:20:15 GMT -5
It is a good answer. Let's see if this is a good card. Higher than a 2. (ding; audience applause) A 6. Matt, as you know, you may freeze and hang on to the two cards that are face up for the rest of the game -- or risk the 6 and play off of it. If you're right, you're still in business of couse; if you're wrong, you lose every card face up except for the base card.

Taking advantage of the free shot. Higher than a 6. (ding; audience applause) It is -- an 8. Play on or freeze the 6 and snowman?

I'll Freeze

Post by dougmorrisontheair on Apr 15, 2017 8:18:53 GMT -5
Freezing on the snowman. (Brie and Doug manually move Matt's freeze bar over) That means you'll hang on to all three cards for the rest of the game. Should Matt win another question, he'll have a chance to change that 8. Greg would like to win a question and try to, at least, even up this race. We'll find out who wins Game 1 -- after this. (theme plays; audience applause)

(audience cheers) And welcome back to Card Sharks. I'm Alec Baldwin filling in for DeRay Davis. (audience laughs) We're about to play our second round of Game 1. Matt's already at the midway point of winning this game -- in more ways than one. Greg's looking to make a move as we play our second question. Oh -- and it's time to welcome special guests in our audience. A warm welcome, please, to ten certified personal trainers. (audience cheers -- as trainers assemble in the bidders' row area) And Greg, this question's yours. Before the show, we asked our ten certified personal trainers, "Were you overweight before you earned your certification as a personal trainer?" How many of these personal trainers said, yes, they were previously overweight?

|
Post by palmer7 on Apr 15, 2017 21:40:48 GMT -5
I believe it was said on another network that a few of the trainers there were overweight, like Jillian Michaels. So, I'm going to say that's a reasonably high number. 7.

(ding) Greg says 7 out of the 10 personal trainers were overweight before they were certified. Matt, is the actual number higher or lower than 7?
