In our last episode, Lenny demonstrated his knowledge and his skill, winning over $3,000 cash and a new RAV4! Per my rules, he must "retire" for two episodes. That means for this show, I will need three new competitors. Four players must wait this episode out. Here's who they are.
SIT OUT ONE SHOW: Kevin, Kourtney, James. SIT OUT TWO SHOWS: Lenny.
Anyone else can give this show a try. The game itself will not begin until on or around April 1, due to my upcoming move. However, you may register at any time prior to that.
So, who's ready to take on the fastest, most interesting quiz on TV?

(Thanks for your patience. The move is complete and I am ready to start.)
Ready in 3, 2, 1...go!
(1986 "SS" Theme plays)
BRIAN CUMMINGS: Here's a question for you...
Where is the universe's tallest mountain located?
BRIAN: You'll find out the answer to this and many more fascinating questions as these three players (shot of Matt, John, and Frank at the contestants' desk) battle for the right to win one of these five (shot of the cars on display) beautiful Toyota cars! All in a...
(Lightning crash)
SPLIT SECOND!
BRIAN: And here's our host, JON DARRALL! (Applause as I enter through the giant door separating the main game and bonus areas)
ME: Thanks, Brian Cummings! Thank you, audience and viewers at home, for joining us for another edition of the most exciting and challenging quiz show on TV - Split Second. Here's the answer to the opener! Where is the tallest mountain in the universe located? If you thought it was Mount Everest, well...I hate to say it, but you're wrong. It's actually OLYMPUS MONS ON MARS. Estimated by scientists to be over 85,000 feet tall, it is over 2.5 times taller than Mount Everest.
(I turn to the players)
ME: OK, so who wants to be the first to climb it? (Laughter all around) Hmmm...no takers. I guess the three of you saw our last two shows, in which we gave away cars. One of you three is going to try to make it a three-peat. Brian, tell us about them, please.
(Contestant intro cue plays as I walk to my podium)
BRIAN: Our first contestant is from Council Bluffs, Iowa. Welcome MATT RINGGENBERG! Player number two is from Jeffersonville, Indiana. Please welcome JOHN BERGMAN. And, our third player is from San Francisco, California. Say hello to FRANK DRISCOLL! There they are, Jon, so let's play Split Second!
(Applause as the camera points to me at my podium)
ME: I extend that welcome to you, contestants. Here's how we play. As you know, each Split Second question comes in three parts, but I only need you to provide the answer to one part. Your buzzers are rigged to register the order in which you press them, but you cannot jump the gun. The amount of money you win is based on how many people correctly answer a question. In Round One, you'll earn $50 each if all three of you are right, $75 each if two of you are right, and $150 if you are the only one to answer correctly. After two rounds and the Countdown Round, the one who emerges victorious will have a chance at a beautiful Toyota (Crowd applauds). By the way, today is the last day in which we are offering those Toyotas. The players are ready, poised at the buzzers. Let's start with a question on FAMOUS FAMILIES.
Many singers have siblings who attempt to break into the music business themselves. I'll give the first names of three lesser-known sisters of popular singers. Pick one and give the first AND last name of her more famous sister. Look at the screen.
A. Haylie B. Dannii C. Jaime Lynn
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: Frank, John, Matt.
ME: Frank, you're first!
(Gentlemen, you don't need to wait for me to acknowledge an answer, so long as you go in order.)

ME: We will add $75 each for Matt and Frank (Applause). DANNII, by the way, is the sister of KYLIE MINOGUE. Tough one, especially if you're not up on more recent music. Oh, here's an easy one on SIGNS AND SYMBOLS.
In the U.S., road signs are constructed so that the color and shape help express the sign's intended meaning. I'll name three common U.S. road signs. Pick one and name its shape. Look at the screen.
A. Railroad Crossing B. Speed Limit C. Yield
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: Frank, Matt, John.
ME: Frank?

ME: That's right! I also would have accepted AN X OR CROSS. Everyone gets $50 (Applause)! John is at $50, while Matt and Frank have $125 apiece. Let's go on to MATH.
This question is truly one that will make you feel grand. I'll give three mathematical statements about the number 1,000. Pick one and tell me if it is TRUE or FALSE. Look at the screen.
A. Its square root is a whole number. B. Its cube root is a whole number. C. Its fourth root is a whole number.
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: Matt, Frank, John.
ME: Matt?

Just a guess. It's cube root is a whole number is false?
|
|
|
Post by jmdarrall on Apr 4, 2017 23:21:06 GMT -5
ME: Nope, that's TRUE. Cube root of 1,000 is 10. John, what about the fourth root?
|
|
|
Post by johnnyb on Apr 5, 2017 19:24:05 GMT -5
The fourth root is TRUE.
|
|
|
Post by jmdarrall on Apr 6, 2017 14:37:36 GMT -5
ME: No, sorry. If the square root is not a whole number, then the fourth root can't be, either. That statement was FALSE. Matt is the only one to score (Applause). He gets $150, and let's check the scores.
MATT: $275 JOHN: $50 FRANK: $125
ME: It's still really early. Let's try a question on GAMES.
The game of Bingo is very popular in England. In fact, the callers have developed rhyming slang to help players hear the numbers called. For instance, if a caller says "Tom Mix," then he has pulled the number six. I'll give three other English Bingo phrases. Pick one and tell me the rhyming number associated with it. Look at the screen.
A. "Man Alive" B. "Garden Gate" C. "Teresa's Den"
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: Frank, Matt, John.
ME: Frank?

ME: And all three are right for $50 each (Applause). Great job! Let's try one on SPORTS.
The martial arts are among the world's oldest sports, and many forms of the martial arts are practiced around the world. I'll name three martial arts styles. Pick one and tell me the country of origin. Look at the screen.
A. Taekwondo B. Capoiera C. Krav Maga
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: John, Matt, Frank.
ME: John?
