ME: And everyone is right again! (Applause...CLANGCLANGCLANGCLANGCLANG!) Relax, gentlemen, as Round Two is over. Let's check out the scores as we get ready for the Countdown Round (theme starts up).
MATT: $1,125 JOHN: $1,125 FRANK: $1,950
ME: As you can see, Frank is out in front, but we have a tie for second, making this Countdown Round extremely interesting. We'll see how it turns out when we return, but before we go, try this question.
The Porsche company was named for Ferdinand Porsche. What was Mr. Porsche's all-time best-selling car?
ME: Find out the answer when we return!

(Theme plays as the camera shows me at the contestants' desk, chatting with them)
BRIAN: Welcome back to "Split Second"! Did you know the answer to our play-along question: What is Ferdinand Porsche's all-time best-selling car? It's not a Porsche. It's the VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE! German chancellor Adolf Hitler commissioned Mr. Porsche to create a practical car for his new highway system in 1938. The iconic car turned out to be the world's best-selling car for several decades.
(Cut to an art card plugging the accommodations)
BRIAN: While in Toronto, out-of-town guests and staff stay at the Radisson Admiral Hotel - Harbourfront. Located in the Entertainment District just 5 minutes from the CN Tower and Rogers Centre, this hotel offers bright and airy rooms in a modern property featuring a heated outdoor pool and fine dining restaurant.
(Shot of me back at my podium)
BRIAN: Now, let's return to Jon Darrall and play the Countdown Round on "Split Second"!
ME: Thank you, Brian! Welcome back to "Split Second". This round, the Countdown Round, will determine who goes on to play for the car. Players, we will play this round like before, but with one exception: this time, when you buzz in, you may provide one, two, or all three answers, so long as you give correct answers ONE AT A TIME and WAIT for me to acknowledge them (players, you DON'T need to wait for me if someone says "I don't know" or "I pass" - only wait if a player gives a right or wrong answer). You will count down one point for every right answer, and the first player to count down to 0 wins the game, an extra $1,000 cash, and a chance at the cars. Let's determine your starting scores.
MATT: 5 JOHN: 5 FRANK: 4
ME: I told you it was going to be interesting. Frank, as our leader, you'll start with 4 points. Since we had a tie for second, our rules state that we give BOTH players the LOWER number of points. Therefore, Matt and John, you'll both start with 5 points each. Anyone can erase a deficit easily. Remember, gentlemen, PLEASE WAIT for me to acknowledge a right or wrong answer (but not a pass), and give answers one at a time, or you'll forfeit your turn. Let's begin the Countdown Round...now!
(Countdown Round cue begins)
ME: First question is on FILMS.
Many films feature live actors interacting with traditionally-drawn animated characters. I'll describe three such live-action/animation hybrids, and you name them. Look at the screen.
A. Uncle Remus sings "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" B. Michael Jordan hoops it up with Bugs Bunny and pals C. Bob Hoskins proves a rabbit's innocence
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: Frank, Matt, John.
ME: Frank, go for it.

ME: Correct! And you count down to 1 point (Applause)! Frank can go out on this next question. The category is WORDPLAY.
The man's name "Robert" has many shortened forms. I'll give the definitions of three words that are also shortened forms of the name "Robert." For each definition, give the word. Look at the screen.
A. To steal from someone. B. A London cop. C. A flapper's hairdo.
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: John, Frank, Matt.
ME: John!

ME: Yes! Way to take all three (Applause). Matt stays at 5, John counts down to 2, and Frank stays at 1. John or Frank can go out here. It all comes down to who hits that buzzer fastest. Next question is on FAMOUS FAMILIES.
Country music has produced its fair share of parent and child singers, sometimes having success together. I'll give the first names of three pairs of country singers who are parent and child. Give me their last names. Look at the screen.
A. Dottie and Shelly B. Naomi and Wynonna C. Johnny and Rosanne
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: Frank, John, Matt.
ME: Frank, just one will give you the game!

ME: Right and you win (Applause as victory cue plays and the players shake hands)!! Excellent job, Frank. For the record, the others were Johnny and Rosanne CASH, and Dottie and Shelly WEST. Matt and John, you played a great game and won $1,125 each. Enjoy that. Frank, for winning the game, your total is now $2,950. Further, you are going to play for one of those beautiful Toyotas, so let's go!
(Theme restarts as Frank and I walk to the bonus game area)
ME: Will Frank drive out of here a big winner? Find out when we return!

(Theme plays as the camera swings in from an overhead shot of the bonus area, zooming in to a screen positioned between me and Frank. Brian does this plug...)
BRIAN: All cars for this week's shows are provided by Yorkdale Toyota-Scion. Offering "small town service in the heart of the city," Yorkdale is Toronto's premier dealer for Toyota and Scion sales and service. Visit our showroom or our website at "yorkdale toyota dot com." Now, let's rejoin Jon and Frank on "Split Second"!
(Shot of us at the base of a series of platforms, each displaying a car and a mounted monitor on the back of each platform. The platforms also have lighted floors.)
ME: Thanks, Brian! We are back with Frank Driscoll, our student from the San Francisco Bay Area. He has $2,950 in cash, and I know he wants to win more. First, my man, here are the five cars up for grabs....
(Bonus area darkens slightly as the theme starts back up. As I announce each car's name, the lighted floor beneath it shines and the monitor behind it displays the name.)
ME: You could win the COROLLA LE CVT sedan (Applause)! Or the EIGHTY SIX sports coupe (Applause)! How about the RAV4 SUV that we gave away last time (Applause)? Maybe the TACOMA pickup (Applause)? You could also win the YARIS liftback (Applause)! Those are the cars, and here's how you win one of them. Above the screen beside you are five keys, one for each car. Pick one, and if you go on to select the car that matches it, you retire with the car and the cash you've won so far (Applause)! Go ahead and pick a key, please.

Let's go with Key #4.
|
|
|
Post by jmdarrall on May 15, 2017 15:05:08 GMT -5
(Frank pulls Key 4 from the display and holds on to it)
ME: All right. Now, you have a one-in-five chance of finding the car that that key starts. Those are not good odds at all, aren't they?
FRANK: No.
ME: No, they are not (Laughter). So, we will help you improve those odds by answering some questions. I have three questions, each with three parts. To be correct on a question, you must answer all three parts correctly. To help you out, all three questions will have the same three answers, and each answer will only be used once per question. In other words, you just need to give the correct combination of answers for each question. Remember to use the answers given on the screen, AS THEY ARE LISTED. Otherwise, I'll make you correct yourself. Remember also to give all three answers at once. Every time you give me all parts correctly, we will eliminate one mismatched car. Hopefully, we can improve your odds to one-in-four, one-in-three, or one-in-two. Let's see what the answers are for today's Bonus Round.
(Screen displays)
SEAN CONNERY ROGER MOORE TIMOTHY DALTON
ME: SEAN CONNERY, ROGER MOORE, or TIMOTHY DALTON. Three actors who all played James Bond in the movies. Here is the first question.
Just as the three men listed made names for themselves playing 007, so did the many women who played Bond Girls. I'll name three Bond Girl portrayers, and you match them to the Bond actor. Look at the screen.
A. Jane Seymour B. Jill St. John C. Carey Lowell
Please give me all three answers at once, and make sure to specify which answer goes with which part, or you may be counted wrong.

|
|
Post by fdriscoll22 on May 16, 2017 9:47:43 GMT -5
OK, this is gonna be tough. I believe Carey Lowell is Sean Connery, Jane Seymour is Roger Moore, and Jill St. John is Timothy Dalton.
|
|
|
Post by jmdarrall on May 16, 2017 12:52:14 GMT -5
ME: Jane Seymour was with ROGER MOORE in "Live and Let Die." However, you got the other two reversed. Carey Lowell was with TIMOTHY DALTON in "License to Kill" before she spent several years on "Law and Order." Jill St. John starred opposite SEAN CONNERY in "Diamonds are Forever." We can't give credit for a right answer there, so no elimination for the time being. However, there are two questions to go. Here's question two.
Although James Bond was an Englishman, the actors who played him weren't necessarily so. I'll give the birth countries of the three actors, and you match them to the actors. Look at the screen.
A. England B. Scotland C. Wales
ME: Your answers, please.
|
|
|
Post by fdriscoll22 on May 17, 2017 10:29:15 GMT -5
Sean Connery is Scotland, I think Roger Moore is from England, and Timothy Dalton is from Wales.
|
|
|
Post by jmdarrall on May 17, 2017 13:22:58 GMT -5
ME: That's correct! (Applause) We'll eliminate at least one car. One more question.
It's hard to imagine these three actors in films in which they did not play James Bond. I'll name three films, and you match them with the actors who appeared in them. Look at the screen.
A. "The Rocketeer" B. "The Cannonball Run" C. "Medicine Man"
ME: Remember these films, Frank?
|
|
|
Post by fdriscoll22 on May 17, 2017 22:42:52 GMT -5
No, not at all. It wouldn't hurt to take a guess would it? Ok let's say, Medicine Man is Sean Connery, The Cannonball Run is Roger Moore, and The Rocketeer is Timothy Dalton.

ME: Sigh...(I put my arm around Frank's shoulder)...Frank, if that was a guess.....it was a good one! That's the right combo! (Applause and laughter as Frank breathes a sigh of relief) Two out of three, champ. That means we will eliminate two bad cars. Let's review all the cars again...
COROLLA LE CVT EIGHTY SIX RAV4 TACOMA YARIS
ME: Note that each is on a lighted platform and has the name on the screen behind it. One at a time, we'll shut off three of the cars. Let's eliminate the first one...now! (Switch off effect is heard as the screen behind the YARIS goes black and the lights beneath it go black)
COROLLA LE CVT EIGHTY SIX RAV4 TACOMA ----------
ME: And the second one....now! (Switch off effect as the camera switches to the EIGHTY SIX)
COROLLA LE CVT ---------- RAV4 TACOMA ----------
ME: We've eliminated the YARIS and the EIGHTY SIX. Your key belongs to the COROLLA sedan, the RAV4 SUV, or the TACOMA pickup. Which one would you like?
(Audience yells suggestions)

ME: Ah, a fine choice. Brian, let's hear about it. (Car cue plays as I lead Frank up the stage right step to the Corolla. Frank sits in the front seat and places the key in the ignition.) BRIAN: Legendary for its quality, durability, and reliability, the 2017 Toyota Corolla CVT LE sedan is sleek, stylish, and fun to drive. With its fuel-efficient, 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder engine and controlled variable automatic transmission, the Corolla offers performance, along with the advanced safety of Toyota's Safety Sense P. With all fees, this car is worth... $22,405ME: Very nice. Now, Frank, this car is yours if that key starts it. We're going to count three, then you'll turn the key. If it starts, you drive out of here undefeated. If not, we give you a consolation prize and you return for our next show. Either way, you can't lose. Are you ready? FRANK: Ready! ME: Let's do it! Audience, help me out... (Drumroll) ME AND THE AUDIENCE: ONE......TWO.........THREE! (Frank turns the key....REVREVREVREVREV....) VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!(Lightning crash and last bars of theme play as the platform flashes and the screen behind the Corolla displays...) WIN!ME: Frank, unbelievable! Come on out! (He does so as he laughs with joy) Three times in a row. Congratulations, you've won that beautiful Corolla sedan! That, combined with the $2,950 you've won earlier, gives you a retired champion's grand total of... $25,355ME: (Theme restarts) Very nicely done, Frank. We'll see you next time with three new players vying for one of five new cars, here on... (Lightning crash)BRIAN: "Split Second" is a Stefan Hatos - Monty Hall Production.
