Our two-time champion, James, has $7,750 and is vying for a new car. James, please check in!
I also need two challengers to take him on. Kevin and Lenny, I do ask that you please sit this one out. As long as you didn't play the last episode, you are eligible!
So, who's ready for the fastest, most interesting quiz on TV?

Ready in 3, 2, 1...go!
(1986 "SS" Theme plays)
BRIAN CUMMINGS: Here's a question for you...
In what country were English Muffins invented?
BRIAN: You'll find out the answer to this and many more fascinating questions as these three players (shot of James, John, and Matt at the contestants' desk) battle for the right to win one of these five (shot of the cars on display) beautiful Toyota cars! All in a...
(Lightning crash)
SPLIT SECOND!
BRIAN: And here's our host, JON DARRALL! (Applause as I enter through the giant door separating the main game and bonus areas)
ME: Thanks, Brian Cummings! Thank you, audience and viewers at home, for joining us for another edition of the most exciting and challenging quiz show on TV - Split Second. Want to know the answer to the opener? The English Muffin, as we know it today, was actually invented in THE UNITED STATES. If it's any consolation, the inventor, Samuel Thomas, was born in England. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1875 and, 5 years later, developed his recipe for English Muffins based on his memory of the crumpets he used to eat back in jolly old England. By the way, Thomas' English Muffins are still the leading brand of English Muffin in North America.
(I turn to the players)
ME: Something to think about the next time you eat Eggs Benedict, yeah? (Laughter as players nod their heads in agreement) I know one thing James is hungry for: his third crack at a beautiful car. However, there are two guys here who are saying "Nuh-uh! That's mine!" Brian's going to tell us about our challengers. Brian?
(Contestant intro cue plays as I walk to my podium)
BRIAN: Our first challenger is from Jeffersonville, Indiana. Meet JOHN BERGMAN! Our second challenger is from Council Bluffs, Iowa. Please welcome MATT RINGGENBERG. There they are, so let's play Split Second!
(Applause as the camera points to me at my podium)
ME: Two Midwesterners here to challenge James Greek of Elba, Alabama, our two-time champion with $7,750 in cash. Here's how we play our game. As you know, each Split Second question comes in three parts, but I only need you to provide the answer to one part. Your buzzers are rigged to register the order in which you press them, but you cannot jump the gun. The amount of money you win is based on how many people correctly answer a question. In Round One, you'll earn $50 each if all three of you are right, $75 each if two of you are right, and $150 if you are the only one to answer correctly. After two rounds and the exciting Countdown Round, the one who emerges victorious will have a chance at a beautiful Toyota (Crowd applauds). Let's get to it, yeah? First question is on POP MUSIC.
A number of Top 40 hits since 1980 have celebrated the working woman. I'll show you the titles of 3 such songs. Pick one and name the singer or group who made it a hit. Look at the screen.
A. "9 to 5" B. "She Works Hard for the Money" C. "Independent Women, Part I"
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: James, Matt, John.
ME: James, you're first!
(Gentlemen, you don't need to wait for me to acknowledge an answer, so long as you go in order.)

ME: That's what I needed. Thank you. All three score $50 each (Applause). Quick explanation: Beyonce did sing that song, but she wasn't alone. To accept your answer, John, would be to discredit her bandmates in Destiny's Child, hence the need for more info. Moving on now with a question on TELEVISION.
Whether real or fictional, the U.S. President is a popular lead character in many television shows. I'll name 3 fictional U.S. Presidents. Pick one and tell me the current or recent series that features him. Look at the screen.
A. Fitzgerald Grant III B. Thomas Kirkman C. Josiah Bartlett

ORDER: Matt, John, James.

ME: Matt is right, James is right, and John had no answer. It was a tough one, admittedly. Thomas Kirkman is played by Kiefer Sutherland on the new show "DESIGNATED SURVIVOR." Matt and James score $75 apiece (Applause). Tie for the lead between Matt and the champ with $125, John trailing with $50. Let's try a question on ORGANIZATIONS.
The year is 1912, and a little girl from Georgia named Daisy Gordon becomes the first member of an international organization founded by her aunt. The organization has impacted the lives of billions of girls ever since. I'll ask you 3 questions about the organization. Pick one and answer it. Look at the screen.
A. Name of the organization? B. Name of Daisy's aunt/the founder? C. Georgia city where founded?
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: Matt, John, James.
ME: Take it, Matt!

Each year, over 1.5 billion rides are taken on the New York City Subway system. I'll name 3 other U.S. cities. Pick one and tell me, YES or NO, does it have a subway system? Look at the screen.
