ME: I will actually accept that. The answer I have was "DAISY-HEAD MAYSIE," but since I didn't specify full names, Maysie will work for me. Everyone scores $100 (Applause...CLANGCLANGCLANGCLANGCLANG!).
(Contestants take a breather as the theme begins)
ME: And our contestants can take a quick rest as we get ready for the Countdown Round. Let's check the scores.
JAMES: $1,625 JOHN: $1,100 MATT: $1,475
ME: As you can see, we've got the elements of a great horse race ahead. Only one can win, though, so who will it be? We'll find out soon, but before we go, here's a play-at-home question.
Earlier, we learned that in the movies and stories, James Bond reports to "M." If James Bond was a real person, and he worked for the actual MI-6 Intelligence Agency, what one-lettered official would he report to?
ME: Try that question at home and see how you do. We'll see you shortly!

(Theme plays as the camera shows me at the contestants' desk, chatting with them)
BRIAN: Welcome back! Did you know the answer to our play-along question: What letter denotes the actual head of England's MI-6? It's the letter C, for Chief of Intelligence Services.
(Cut to an art card plugging the accommodations)
BRIAN: While in Toronto, out-of-town guests and staff stay at the Radisson Admiral Hotel - Harbourfront. Located in the Entertainment District just 5 minutes from the CN Tower and Rogers Centre, this hotel offers bright and airy rooms in a modern property featuring a heated outdoor pool and fine dining restaurant.
(Shot of me back at my podium)
BRIAN: Now, let's return to our Chief of Intelligence Services - J! I mean...Jon Darrall!
ME: Thank you, Brian! J, huh? In any event, we welcome you back to Split Second. This round, the Countdown Round, will determine who goes on to play for the car. Players, we will play this round like before, but with one exception: this time, when you buzz in, you may provide one, two, or all three answers, so long as you give correct answers and WAIT for me to acknowledge them (players, you DON'T need to wait for me if someone says "I don't know" or "I pass" - only wait if a player gives a right or wrong answer). You will count down one point for every right answer, and the first player to count down to 0 wins the game, an extra $1,000 cash, and a chance at the cars. Let's determine your starting scores.
JAMES: 4 JOHN: 6 MATT: 5
ME: John, since you were in third going into this round, you'll start with 6 points. Matt, you were second, so you'll start with 5 points. James, as the leader, you'll start with 4 points. Anyone can erase a deficit easily, though. Remember, gentlemen, you MUST WAIT for me to acknowledge a right or wrong answer (but not a pass), and give answers one at a time, or you'll forfeit your turn. Let's begin the Countdown Round...now!
(Countdown Round cue begins)
ME: First question is on TRANSPORTATION.
Throughout history, different types of boats have become historically associated with the groups who used them. I'll name three types of boats, and you name the group of people, past or present, who used them. Look at the screen.
A. The Knarr B. The Dhow C. The Junk
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: John, James, Matt.
ME: John, go for it.

ME: Yes. It still is. James counts down 1 to 3 points. John counts down 2 to 4 points. Matt stays at 5. James can go out on this next question, which is on BUSINESS.
The founders of recording labels often become as famous as the recording artists they sign. I'll name 3 well-known music entrepreneurs, and you name the record labels they founded. Look at the screen.
A. Richard Branson B. Russell Simmons C. Berry Gordy, Jr.
(BONG! BONG! BONG!)
ORDER: James, Matt, John.
ME: Uh-oh...James!

ME: And we have a three-time champion!
(Fanfare plays as the crowd applauds and everyone shakes hands)
ME: James, you did it again. The reason why I said "uh-oh" when you buzzed in first is that you are devilishly good with music questions. John and Matt, you have nothing to be ashamed of. John, you are leaving us with $1,100, and Matt, you are leaving us with $1,475. James, though, you picked up an extra $1,000, giving you $2,625 so far today. You know what's going to happen now...you're going to come with me and take your third crack at a brand new Toyota!
(James gets up out of his seat and joins me as we walk through the stage doors, leading to the car area. Theme restarts.)
ME: Will the third time be a charm for James? Find out when we return to "Split Second"!

(Theme plays as the camera swings in from an overhead shot of the bonus area, zooming in to a screen positioned between me and James. Brian does this plug...)
BRIAN: All cars for this week's shows are provided by Yorkdale Toyota-Scion. Offering "small town service in the heart of the city," Yorkdale is Toronto's premier dealer for Toyota and Scion sales and service. Visit our showroom or our website at "yorkdale toyota dot com." Now, let's rejoin Jon and James on "Split Second"!
(Shot of us at the base of a series of platforms, each displaying a car and a mounted monitor on the back of each platform. The platforms also have lighted floors.)
ME: Thanks, Brian! There are two things I neglected to mention earlier. First, at the end of the first round, I neglected to mention the month in which Victoria Day occurs in Canada - that's in MAY. Second, I neglected to mention that with today's victory, our champion, James, is now over five figures, $10,375, to be exact (Applause)! And I know he wants to win more. First, James, here's a reminder of what the five cars are....
(Bonus area darkens slightly as the theme starts back up. As I announce each car's name, the lighted floor beneath it shines and the monitor behind it displays the name.)
ME: You could win the COROLLA LE CVT sedan (Applause)! Or the EIGHTY SIX sports coupe (Applause)! How about the RAV4 SUV (Applause)? Maybe the TACOMA pickup (Applause)? You could also win the YARIS liftback (Applause)! Those are the cars, and here's how you win them. Above the screen beside you are five keys, one for each car. Pick one, and if you go on to select the car that matches it, you retire with the car and the cash you've won so far (Applause)! Go ahead and pick a key, please.

(James pulls Key 4 and hangs on to it.)
ME: OK, you know the drill. That key starts one of the five cars. You select the car, you win it. To help you out, you can black out 3 of the non-matching cars by answering 3 more 3-part questions. Each question has the same three answers, and each answer is only used once. You MUST say the answers exactly as they appear on screen, though. Let's see what the answers are. Look at the screen.
DAVID BOWIE GEORGE MICHAEL PRINCE
(Audience laughs as I look over at the judges, as if to say "seriously?!")
ME: Really?! Why don't we just black out the three non-matching cars now? (BUZZ!) No? Ah-ha! Sorry, bucko, you've got to answer the three questions, as usual. They just so happen to be about superstar singers who passed away - too soon, arguably - in 2016. Here's the first one.
Each of the three superstars was born with a different last name. I'll give the last names of the three superstars in question, and you match them to the superstar. Look at the screen.
A. Jones B. Panayiotou C. Nelson
ME: Remember, your options are DAVID BOWIE, GEORGE MICHAEL, and PRINCE. Now, what are your answers?

Jones was Bowie George Michael was panayiotou And Prince was Nelson
P.S David Bowie's real name is David Jones but he changed his name to avoid confusion with Davy Jones of the monkees

ME: Right, and good recall on the David Jones/Davy Jones factoid! (Applause) We will knock out at least one non-match. Let's try for another one.
Each of the three superstars was noted for his appearances in films. I'll name three films, and you match them to the superstars. Look at the screen.
A. "Foreign Skies" B. "Labyrinth" C. "Purple Rain"
ME: Your answers, please.

ME: Way to go, James (Applause)! We didn't stump you on "Foreign Skies," apparently. That was the documentary which chronicled Wham's concert as the first Western pop group to perform in Communist China. One more question to try.
As rock superstars tend to do, the three superstars in question fell in and out of love numerous times in their lives. I'll name the spouses of the three superstars, and you match them to the superstar. Look at the screen.
A. Mayte Garcia B. Fadi Fawaz C. Angie Barnett
ME: Your answers, please.

ME: Right on all counts! (Applause as I shake James's hand) Three-for-three, as if there was any doubt. That means we will eliminate three bad cars. You know how we do it, so let's review all the cars again...
COROLLA LE CVT EIGHTY SIX RAV4 TACOMA YARIS
ME: And eliminate the first one...now! (Switch off effect is heard as the screen behind the COROLLA LE CVT goes black and the lights beneath it go black)
---------- EIGHTY SIX RAV4 TACOMA YARIS
ME: And the second one....now! (Switch off effect)
---------- EIGHTY SIX ---------- TACOMA YARIS
ME: Not the RAV4, either. Switch off a third car....now! (Switch off effect)
---------- EIGHTY SIX ---------- ---------- YARIS
ME: There you have it. Your key belongs to either the EIGHTY SIX sports coupe or the YARIS liftback. Which one would you like to play for?
(Audience yells suggestions)
