PRACTICE

(word win cue) I won't ask you what it is they practice doing on it! (Chuckling) $150 for you PLUS a selection of a blue bonus envelope... Incidentally, since neither player can win this game in a clean sweep, the Clean Sweep bonus will grow to $750 at the start of our next crossword game. Steve, we have a slightly new way of doing the bonus envelopes now. Since you hit a blue bonus square, only the blue bonus envelopes are in play. Inside one is $500, inside one is $750 and inside one it says SPRINT. If you select either the $500 envelope or the $750 envelope first, that money is yours. If however you select the SPRINT envelope first, I will ask you to then select one of the remaining two envelopes, and whatever amount of money you pick would instead be deposited into the Bonus Sprint Jackpot, which is currently at $10,000. Steve, which envelope do you want, the top one, the middle one or the bottom one?

And that is... Hey! $750 cash bonus for you Steve! (applause) (theme plays) We have a good game going here, $150 for Steve to $100 for Sam. $200 word and Sam will be back up to bat, right after these messages of interest!

(return from commercial theme) Here we are as in olden days, happy golden days of yore... Got a good game going, an international one at that, the U.S. versus the U.K. Sam, since you are behind by $50, we'll go back to the board with you this time... We're building off of the letter I, and it's a 7 letter word. Value of this word is $200... And the clue is... (outline sound effect) He's a man of peace. Sam, if you know it, or think you might, you can try to solve it right now, otherwise please select two of the nine numbered tiles and try to get yourself a couple of good letters to place.

picosong.com/fTwB/No, I'm afraid PATRICK wasn't the answer we were going for that time. A good try though Sam. Unfortunately for you Sam, an incorrect solve forfeits control over to Steve. Steve, you have two options right now. You can solve the word, but you won't receive any bonus for it, or you may select one tile and bring yourself up to speed.

(groans in the audience) Yeah, kind of tough to solve it. Here comes the L... (Scrabbling sound) (stopper) Wow, Steve I think that's the first stopper you've encountered so far... Big big break for you Sam! If you are able to solve it now, that's fine, but the bonus is out of play. Otherwise, you can pick two more tiles.

(has a very confused face) Well, it's easy if you're american but I can't think who would be a man of peace, now the S makes it harder, so I'm picking 3 and 9.

(word win cue) That's the one, Justice of the peace... Score another $200 for that one Steve, brings you up to $350, Sam still at $100, so Sam we go back to the board with you... Building off of the letter L this time, six letters in this $250 word. Solve this one and we'll have a tie game and play Speedword. The clue is... (outline) It can be a real noise maker. Sam, do you know it, or do you need to take two tiles?
