Well done again Greg! (applause) Greg now has $300 to Doug's $200, but what matters most is beating that 19 that Doug has frozen on. Greg will do it if the next card is either an 8 or a 9. He'd love a 9 for $6,000 Lynn. Even a 4 for $1,600. Doug is hoping for a 10 or Face Card. Lynn, turn up the next card please... Now! (moans from the audience) Well Greg, that won't put you over, but does get you a teeny tiny bit closer... We're going to take a quick time out here, and when we return, we'll see how this first game of our match concludes. Stay tuned, won't you please? Thank you

(prize cue imagined as the link is sadly not working) FRANK CALIENDO (as Kenny Williams): Some of today's parting gifts come to us courtesy of the Spiegel catalog, Spiegel, Chicago, 60609. And now back to Bill McDee and Gambit! (applause) Thank you Frank. In the middle of game number one... (audience begins to cheer & applaud) Well, if it isn't Wink Martindale! Wink, what brings you to Gambit today? Wink: Have you noticed it's warmer in here than usual Bill? Bill: Now that you mention it... Is the heater on? (out walks Merrill Heatter to more applause)... Bill: Well no wonder! Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Merrill Heatter!!! Creator of Gambit and many other beloved great game shows. It is a pleasure to have you here with us too. Merrill: Bill, thank you. Tony Lane has made this re-incarnated version of Gambit a very big success. (loud cheers & applause for Tony as I nod in full agreement). Merrill: So much so that we have decided to begin this September a syndicated early prime time edition of Gambit. Wink: And the host will be none other than Bill McDee! Bill: That's me! Yes, beginning this September, in addition to Gambit being available for morning viewing still here on CBS, Gambit will also be available for early primetime viewing. Furthermore, it will also be available OnDemand, so if you're unable to catch it during the normal hours it airs, you can catch it later on at your convenience. Merrill, it is a great and tremendous honor to be hosting this game, it's one that I have loved from the time I was 5 years old, and Wink, you left very big shoes to fill for Tony, but he has done a magnificent job, and now I have very big shoes to fill, both yours and Tony's. Thankfully I am a size 10 and a half shoe so that should not be a problem Ladies and gentlemen, a nice round of applause for our very distinguished guests, Mr. Merrill Heatter and Wink Martindale! (applause) Right now, back to business here in this first game of our match. Champion Greg Palmer has 13, challenger Doug Morris has frozen on 19. Greg must answer this next question correctly, then draw a 7 or an 8 to win game 1 and $500. An 8 will win him a $6,000 bonus too. Here's the next question Greg... North America, South America or Asia. In which continent will the 2016 Olympic Summer Games be held?

South America, Bill.

Specifically Brazil. Correct! (applause) Another $100 for that correct answer, and the next card. A 3 will win $1,600, a 7 will win you the game and $500, an 8 will win you $500 plus the Any 21 Jackpot of $6,000. Anything above an 8 and game 1 will go to Doug. Lynn, please reveal Greg's next card... Now! (buzz) Too much! And the game goes to Doug Morris. picosong.com/3zeF/So Game number 1 and another $500 goes to the challenger Doug. And since neither bonus was won that last game, the Any 21 Jackpot grows to (ding) $6,500 and the Blackjack Bonus is now a nice round... (ding) Twenty-Thousand dollars! (much cheering and applauding) Greg needs this game to force a rubber game, Doug's going for the championship. Let's see the first card here in pivotal game #2, Lynn if you please... A nice card to start. For a Queen of Clubs players... In the game of casino craps, which number is lower, is it Boxcars or Snake Eyes? (kindly submit your buzz codes from 1 to 100 inclusive to me via private message at this time contestants)

Greg takes the Queen, and here is the next $100 toss-up question for control of the next card...
Huey, Dewey, or Louie...
According to a Chicago Tribune headline from 1948, which one defeated Truman?

Right again! (applause) Another $100 and the next card which Greg wants to keep... (scattering of groans and applause) Well Greg, not the best card per se for a hand of 21, however, that gets you a $1,600 "Sweet 16" bonus! (applause) Now the dilemma. Do you freeze or continue playing, running the risk of going over 21?

I'll freeze, Bill.

I don't blame you one bit Greg. Doug, to become new Gambit champion, you will need a score of 17 to 21. If you go over 21, or fail to reach 17, we'll have a tie match. The only way you'll fail to reach 17 of course is to come up with an incorrect answer to a question, or miss a 48 hour deadline. So, for your first card in this game Doug, here is your question... The bone known as the humerus, that's H U M E R U S, is that located near the knee, the elbow, or the neck?
|
|
|
Post by dougmorrisontheair on Aug 26, 2014 6:33:09 GMT -5
Elbow.

|
|
Post by billmcdee on Aug 26, 2014 14:05:53 GMT -5
You are correct sir! (applause) And incidentally, the humerus is also known, appropriately enough, as the "funny" bone. Lynn, what is Doug's first card in his pursuit of a 17 or more? Ah, a 7... Doug may be just one more correct answer and one more card away from being crowned the new Gambit champion. Let's find out... Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, or Popeye the Sailor Man... Which cartoon character made his debut in the cartoon short "Steamboat Willie"?
|
|
|

Mickey Mouse.
(crosses fingers)

Post by billmcdee on Aug 27, 2014 3:09:04 GMT -5
Doug... You can uncross your fingers. You are correct! (applause) Another $100 for that right answer Doug, up to $900 now. The score at the moment is the same as Super Bowl III, 16 to 7. If the next card dealt to you Doug is a 10, Jack, Queen, King or Ace, you will become the new Gambit champion with $1,400. If the next card is a 9, you too will win the Sweet 16 bonus of $1,600 being offered only during today's episode. Also a 9 or less and the game will continue, since there are no ties on Gambit, except the one I have around my neck. Lynn, for perhaps the game, and the match, deal up the next card please... Now! (gasps & cheers) Oh my, a 4! That gives you a lovely score of 11 now Doug... Not only does this mean you cannot possibly go over 21 on the next card, but you just might hit 21 exactly. But in order to do that, you will need to earn another card first. Here's your next question Doug... Tom, Dick or Harry...which one isn't a Smothers Brother?
|
|
|
Post by dougmorrisontheair on Aug 27, 2014 6:42:21 GMT -5
I can't remember which one mom liked better -- but I know she didn't like Harry -- because Harry wasn't in the Smothers brothers.
(crosses fingers again)

Correct for another $100! (applause) If this next card is a 5, another $1,600 will go to Doug instantly. If it's a 7, 8 or 9, he will become the new Gambit champion and go on to face the Gambit board and our Beat the Dealer bonus game for a chance at over $100,000 in cash and prizes, not to mention the possibility of one MILLION dollars in instant cash!!!!!!! (audience ooohs & ahhhs) If it's a 10, he'll also win the Any 21 jackpot of $6,500! His fate, and Greg's could be determined on the turn of this very next card in Lynn's deck. Lynn, show us that next card please.... Right after this brief message! (audience groans) picosong.com/cThu/

Material for some of the questions used here on Gambit come from the 22 volume World Book Encyclopedia. Each of our contestants will take home one courtesy of our show. I was a bit bratty there going to a commercial break during a most pivotal moment in this match. So without any further ado, Lynn, show us the next card please... Now! (audience moans) You mean all that dramatic pause and build up for an itsy bitsy Deuce of Diamonds?!?! Doug, you now have 13, and need a 4 to win, but not more than an 8. Next question... Earlier in 2014, former child star Shirley Temple Black passed away. Did she die before or after her 85th birthday, Doug?

(Thanks Nathan ) (I'll get that to you Tony to be sure!) After is correct! (applause) Now Doug has $1,100. A 3 will win him an instant $1,600 bonus. A 4, 5, 6 or 7 will win him the game, the match, another $500 and that all important trip to the Gambit board where he will try to beat the dealer for big bucks and prizes. An 8 will win Doug $7,000, $500 for the game plus the Any 21 Jackpot of $6,500. A 9, 10, Jack, Queen or King and Greg will have $2,700 and we'll have a tie match! Lynn, for the win...deal up the next card please... Now! www.fileswap.com/dl/RhdqZohcIW/sc-buzz.mp3.htmlTOO MUCH! And we have a tie match! picosong.com/3zeF/So we have ourselves a tied up match here, Game 1 went to Doug, Game 2 went to Greg. Greg, that 16 proved to be sweet to you in more ways than one! But as is the rule here, there are no ties on Gambit, so we must break this tie match, starting off by increasing our jackpots. The any 21 Jackpot grows another $500. It starts at $2,500 and for every game it is not hit, it grows by another $500, now it's up to $7,000! And the Blackjack Bonus Jackpot starts at $10,000 and it grows by $2,500 per game not won, now it's up to a staggering $22,500! I'd love for one of you to win one of those, especially that Blackjack Bonus. It's jolly good fun giving away CBS' money! Lynn, let's have a look at the first card for this rubber game of the match please... For a Queen of Spades contestants... Milligrams, Milliliters, or Millimeters... Which of these metric units would not be used when describing a specific dosage of medication? (Players, for the sake of time, I'll ask you both at this time to submit to me via Private Message your buzzcode from 1 to 100, plus the answer to the question, plus if you wish to keep the card or pass it...)

BUZZ CODE - 57 Greg - 35 Doug - 64 Doug? Doug's response - milligram. Bill - No, I'm sorry, it was millimeter. Millimeter is a metric unit of distance, while medications are often measured in milliliters, such as cough syrups, or milligrams, such as tablets or capsules. Greg what do you want to do with that Queen, as if I have to ask. Greg - I'll keep that Queen please. Gilligan, the Skipper, or the Professor. Which of these fabled television characters was the one who was seen almost always wearing a white shirt? (contestants please submit your buzzcodes, answers and your desire to keep or pass the next card to me via private message at this time).

Buzz code - 97 Greg - 45 Doug - 39 (horn) Greg? Greg: "The Professor." Bill: Right for another $100! (applause) Greg - I'll keep the card, c'mon Ace! Bill - Lynn, do you have an Ace for an instant match win? Show us! (moans & sighs) Well, not a very good card I'm afraid Greg. Now you're at a potentially perilous 15. Do you wish to freeze or continue on? If your next card is higher than 6, you are through. If you elect to continue, you will not have the option to freeze again unless and until you receive another card.

Doug, this of course means you will need 16 or better to win. This will require at least 2 cards.
So to save some time, as I know you'll not be here for a good part of this upcoming weekend, I will ask you 2 questions now. If you get the first right and the second wrong, you'll still score another $100. But you must get both right in order to possibly win.
Question #1 - 47, 87 or 107....exactly how many years is four score and seven?
Question #2 - X, Z or Q... In the game of Scrabble, which letter has the lowest point value assigned to it?

Q1: 87 years
Q2: The X
