It's back friends. While WordPlay is winding down, and before the re-launch of Three on a Match, I've decided to bring back Scrabble.
Check out the new rules in the Announcements section.
I will need two contestants.

Announcer: You are watching the NBC Television Network. (opening theme) Frank Caliendo - A five letter word...the clue is... Gene, Gene, the Dancing Machine... Audience - KELLY!!!! Frank: Audience - "SCRABBLE!" Frank - And here's Bill McDee! That's me! Hey thank you Frank Caliendo. We're back here on NBC every week day playing the television version of everybody's favorite game. I'd like to dedicate this first episode especially to the memory of Charlie Tuna, the announcer here on Scrabble for over 4 years back during Chuck's reign. We have over $10,000 in cash waiting to be won today, so let's get right down to it and meet today's challengers, Frank? (contestant intro music) Frank: They both hail from the deep deep south. Please welcome James Greek, and Bryan Law! (applause) James welcome to Scrabble. Tell us more about yourself if you please.

(chuckling)
I see you still have that opening clue on your mind, referring to the terrific dancer who also appeared in many motion pictures back in the day, Gene Kelly.
A pleasure to have you with us James, best of luck in the game today.
And Bryan, tell us more about yourself please.

Well I live in Columbus, MS. between Mississippi State and Alabama. I live 60 miles south of Tupelo, the birthplace of Elvis. I work part time for Dollar General and I watch NASCAR and gearing up for the 2016 SEC Football season.

SEC always proves to be the toughest college football conference to be sure! Let's see how tough these two Scrabble players are... You'll be playing a best 2 game out of 3 match. The first two games are full crossword games and if necessary, the tie-breaker will be a one word Speed word round. Each word will be worth score money. $100 for the first word, $150 for the next, $200 for the next, $250 for the next and finally $300 for the last word, which will always be Speed word. First player to get $500 in score money, not including bonuses, wins one game. James, since you signed up first, you get to go to the board first. This first word has 9 letters... Building off of the letter "I" and the clue is... It's one way of getting around. If you think you know it, you can solve it now, otherwise, you can select two of the 11 numbered tiles you see there. The remaining letters in the word are controlled by those tiles, however three of those tiles have letters that are no good. They are stoppers. If you hit a stopper, you lose your turn. Pink and blue squares will offer you an option of taking an instant bonus for yourself or increasing today's Jackpot word in the bonus sprint. Very well, James, you can solve it if you wish, or select 2 tiles.

Let's see about that K... The K drops in there too. It's one way of getting around is the clue. You can try to solve it or if you're not sure of it, or are trying for one of those blue squares, you may pick two more of the remaining tiles James.

Let's see about that "E"... (scrabbling sound) (ding ding ding ding ding) Landed on a blue square. If you can solve this word right now James it will mean a bonus either for you or for the Jackpot word. If you know it, great, if not, we'll have to try the D. Your decision.

And the D... (scrabbling sound) (Stopper) I am sorry James, that D was one of the three stoppers in the word. Bryan, you now get a crack at this. No bonus if you solve it here, but if you want to try for it, there is still one blue square left. What's your pleasure, solve, or take two tiles?

Let's try placing the H... (scrabbling sound) (ding ding ding ding ding) That landed on the other blue bonus square Bryan. If you can solve this word right now, you'll have an option with the bonus. Can you solve it? If not, you'll have to try the I.

That's it! (abbreviated win cue) Now Bryan, since you solved that on a blue bonus square, you have a choice. I can give you $500 right now, yours to keep no matter what, or if you're a gambler, you can refuse it, and instead we'll raise the value of the Jackpot Word in today's Bonus Sprint by $1,000, from $7,500 to $8,500. What do you want to do, take $500 sure thing, or have us up the Jackpot word by $1,000 instead, your decision Bryan.

(Walking over to Bryan's podium)
Here are 5 of Bill's bills...
1...2...3...4...5 hundred bucks!
(applause)
And you also scored $100 for that first word, giving you a $100 to nothing lead.
We'll take a quick time out and finish this first game. James, you'll be up to try to score on the $150 word. $500 in score needed to win one game.
Back after these words, please stay tuned!
