Three to win to block!
|
|
|
Post by jmdarrall on Aug 9, 2016 8:18:50 GMT -5
(Audience murmurs a little)
ME: Interesting move. There was another way to block, but you're going with THREE TO WIN. In this special category, the two of you will battle in a best-of-five contest. I'll ask five questions, all on the same subject. Only the first person to ring in will get to attempt the question. A right answer earns a point, but a wrong answer gives the point to your opponent, even if it would mean a win. First to 3 points wins the box. James, for you, this would mean a block. Marc, for you, this would mean a win. A lot on the line here. Let's begin.
ME: The subject is THE MIDWEST. Here are all 5 questions.
1. By far, this is the largest metropolitan area in the Midwest.
2. Fans of the Boilermakers root for this Big Ten university.
3. The geographical center of North America is located in the town of Rugby, in this Great Plains state.
4. Warren Buffett's hometown, this city on the Missouri River has more dollar billionaires per capita than any other American city.
5. Name any two of the five modern-day Midwestern states that were acquired through the Northwest Ordinance of 1787.
(James and Marc, for each question, PM me a buzz code 1-100 and an answer. We'll play it out once we're done.)

ME: Let's see how we did. Question 1: By far, this is the largest metropolitan area in the Midwest (Both go...James is in...BUZZ!). James? JAMES: Chicago. ME: Correct. 1 for James, none for Marc. Question 2: Fans of the Boilermakers root for this Big Ten university (Both go again...James gets it...BUZZ!). James? JAMES: Purdue. ME: Right again! 2 for James, none for Marc. Marc, you must get the next three right to win. James, one more right answer gets the block. Question 3: The geographical center of North America is located in the town of Rugby, in this Great Plains state (Marc doesn't move....James does....BUZZ!). James, for the block! JAMES: North Dakota. ME: You got the block (Applause...BONG-BONG!)! Wow! Horizontal block for James. Took a bit of a risk, but it paid off. By the way, the answers to the other two were OMAHA, NEBRASKA for #4, and any two of WISCONSIN, INDIANA, ILLINOIS, MICHIGAN, and OHIO for #5. We have $3,000 in the pot, and a shuffle for Marc. (Shuffle effects) (Audience reacts loudly with surprise) ME: Well, Marc.....where to?

Plane Talk to block.

(Audience expresses some shock)
ME: PLANE TALK...ah! I see what you're doing, and I actually think it may be your best move. We'll see. This category, by the way, is about aviators and aviation.
If you've ever flown on an MD-80, you may know that the "MD" stands for this aviation firm, formed as a merger between two smaller companies in 1967. Exactly 30 years later, this company merged with Boeing, and the MD-80 evolved into the Boeing 717. For the vertical block, name this firm.

ME: Good job (Applause)! We'll put up the X and add money to the pot (BONG-BONG!). Pot is at $3,500, and James, you're back in the quandary you found yourself in earlier. How will the shuffle treat you? (Shuffle effects) ME: Choices are STARTS & ENDS THE SAME, TENNIS, or PLANE TALK, James.

ME: This will get you one block.
This word, starting and ending with C, denotes a drink that, by law, must be made from certain varieties of grapes and must age at least two years in French-made oaken barrels. In the U.S., top brands include Hennessy, Remy Martin, and Courvoisier. For the box, name this variety of brandy.

ME: That's right (Applause)! Good for an O (BONG-BONG!) and $4,000 in the pot. The fate of the game could rest on this shuffle. Let's see... (Shuffle effects) ME: Marc...NICKNAMES or NUMBER, PLEASE?

ME: Indeed, this will be for your very first victory. Listen closely.
Although the true origin of his nickname is unknown, many believe that it came from his days of dancing on the streets of New Orleans, where he would gather pennies and keep them in his "satchel mouth" to stop older kids from taking them. Others believe that it was because he could hold large amounts of air while blowing on his trumpet. Regardless of the origin, the world knows this American Jazz great as "Satchmo." For the box, your first Tic Tac Dough, and $4,500.....name him.

ME: Correct for the win (Applause)! (Winning theme plays, BONG-BONG!) ME: There it is, a vertical Tic Tac Dough on the left hand side. An interesting game, to say the least. Marc, I congratulate you on that game, and I'll talk to you in a moment. James, he had you boxed in after he got that top left corner, but you played well, posted three Os, and leave us with $300. We hope to see you again soon. Nice hand for James, everyone! (Applause) ME: OK, Marc, you have $4,500. Ready to win more?

ME: Let's go Beat the Dragon! (Theme plays as Marc meets me toward center stage) ME: Now, you'll have the chance to win over $20,000 in cash and prizes. Here's how: behind these numbers are four Xs, four Os, and a Dragon. Stay away from him at all costs! You'll pick numbers, one at a time, trying to reveal symbols. You'll win $1,000 for each symbol you reveal, and if you find all 8 symbols, or a Tic Tac Dough, you'll win the cash in the pot, as well as some fantastic prizes! There is one catch, though. Find the Dragon, and it's all over. You'll lose the money in the pot, and the Dragon will put it in his Treasure. You, however, can win the Treasure if you find a Tic Tac Dough in your first three selections. Right now, the Treasure is worth $10,000 (Applause)! ME: As I mentioned earlier, you can also win some fantastic prizes. Here's Jim to tell you about what you can win today. JIM: Marc, these prizes pay tribute to our national pastime: baseball! First, we want to get you into the game by giving you the chance to swing, hit, pitch, and field with this BASEBALL EQUIPMENT! From Mizuno, you'll receive a pair of MVP Prime baseball gloves, a custom wood bat and aluminum bat, a pair of batting helmets, and a wheeled bag. Next, we want you to express your baseball fandom with this MLB.COM SHOPPING SPREE! You'll win a $500 online gift certificate valid for official Major League Baseball shirts, jerseys, hats, and more. Next, have you ever wondered what it's like to play with the pros? Find out when we send you to the SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS FANTASY CAMP! We'll fly you from L.A. to San Francisco, where you'll meet your group, then fly off to Phoenix, where a shuttle will take you to the Scottsdale Marriott Suites. Each day, you'll train with Giants greats, past and present, and enjoy full use of the clubhouse facilities. Added to the 7-day experience are meals, autograph sessions, games, and your own uniform. Lastly, although baseball is America's pastime, it is enjoyed in so many other countries, including the nation that gave us such players as Manny Ramirez, Albert Pujols, and David Ortiz. That's right, we're sending you to THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC! We'll fly you and a companion from L.A. to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, where you'll stay in a Deluxe Swim-Out Room at the Dreams Punta Cana Resort and Spa. At this all-inclusive resort, you'll enjoy golf, tennis, pristine beaches, a casino, and daytime and nighttime entertainment. We're also including round-trip ground transport and $500 cash for tours and other incidentals, all courtesy of American Airlines Vacations. In total, this prize package is worth TEN THOUSAND, EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS ($10,800)! ME: Very, very nice, indeed. I've been to the Dominican Republic, and you'll enjoy it there. Marc, whenever you're ready, please give me your first number.

You've won an extra $5,000 cash and the baseball equipment, the shopping spree, the trip to Arizona for the Giants Fantasy Camp, and the trip to Punta Cana. Let's see where everything else was...

(Board reveal effects) ME: As you can see, 1-5-9 was the way to go, and You-Know-Who was behind #3. That doesn't matter now, but that number above the board certainly matters. You have won, in just one game, cash and prizes totaling... TWENTY THOUSAND, THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS! ME: And you've got more to go! We'll take a short break as we get set for our next game. Stay with us! (Applause as theme plays)

ME: Welcome back! In just one game, Marc Enyedy, our champion, racked up over $20,000 in cash and prizes. I should also mention that if he, or any other contestant, wins five games in a row, we'll give a special reward. Jim? (Car cue plays) JIM: It's a new SMART CAR! The Smart Fortwo Passion Coupe combines comfort, durability, performance, and excitement into one tight package. Comes with all standard features. This prize is worth SIXTEEN THOUSAND, ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY DOLLARS ($16,140)! ME: Thanks, Jim. I should also mention that we have no winnings limit; a player plays until he or she is defeated. With that in mind, let's meet our next challenger. Jim? (Contestant intro plays as doors open behind the podiums, revealing the next player, who descends a small staircase...) JIM: Our next challenger is an accountant from Long Island, New York. Meet Kevin Kolsen! (As the cue ends, Kevin takes his place behind the O podium and shakes Marc's hand) ME: Kevin, welcome to Tic Tac Dough! Why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself?
