Greetings, all.
The games I host solo are now on hold until my move's complete (please see my earlier note in the vacation section of NGC for more about that).
Meantime, I do have a *little* time to spare. So it can be spared testing audience games. You've already seen a few. I can't promise you'll see the entire collection in this thread. But, in deference to the current TPiR/LMaD mash-up week on CBS, I'd like to start with a few games that either are based on a retired TPiR game, a LMaD game from the Monty days (of which there's *just* one) or just simply shares its name with a former TPiR game.
So -- who's in? The more the merrier.

Greg, we'll start with the one game based on a LMaD segment from days gone by. Good luck as you play for this. (prize music plays) Shadoe Stevens: It's an outdoor barbecue island. (audience cheers) Shadoe: This deluxe barbecue island comes with a four-burner grill, food prep area and refrigerator. A prize worth $4850. (audience cheers) Thanks, Shadoe -- on loan to us from Match Game / Hollywood Squares. Greg, that barbecue island *and* up to $1000 can be yours in a game we call Grand Slam. Here's how it works. The game is played in four rounds. The first round is worth $100, the second round $200, the third $300 and the fourth, final and potentially crucial round for $400. To win a round, all you have to do is predict whether Stacey Wren's dice roll will total higher or lower than 7. If you're right, you win the money assigned to that round. If however Stacey rolls a 7, you win the round automatically. Now, you don't have to win all $1000 available in this game. You just have to win at least $700. Rack up $700 or more after four rounds -- and you win the game plus the barbecue island. So -- good luck and tell me if Stacey's first roll will be higher or lower than 7.
[NOTE FROM DOUG: For those who haven't figured out the LMaD connection, Monty would offer a brand new car for sale for $700. Depending on the episode, he'd give a married couple or competing individuals a chance to play a pricing deal. Winning a round in the pricing deal earned the victor $100/$200/$300/$400 as illustrated above.]

Greg's going higher than a 7. Stacey, let's see some big numbers, please. Stacey: I'll try. (Stacey rolls) (audience applause) Big roll -- a 4 and a 6 for a 10. (ding) There's your first $100. Time for Round 2, Greg. Higher or lower than a 7?

Lower!

Greg tries lower. Stacey, let's oblige the man. (Stacey rolls) (audience applause) That's low enough -- 5. (ding) $300 out of the grand available in Grand Slam. Remember, you need $700 to win. Round 3's for $300; would give you $600 if you win this round. You can be wrong on this one and still have a chance to win the barbecue island. So -- no worries as you guess higher or lower than 7.

Taking the high road. Let's see what happens. (Stacey rolls) (audience groans) (buzz) Ohhhh -- close. A 6. Close only counts in horseshoes, grenades and slow dancing with Emily Wickersham. (scattered laughter from the crowd) Huh kay. You're still in contention for the barbecue island. Last round's for $400. Good luck, think it over and tell me -- higher or lower?

As well you should. Greg, you've won more than $5500 in cash and merchandise. Please take with our congratulations. We're back with more -- after this. (theme plays; audience cheers)

Okay, time for a new game -- and we'll need a new player.
Hints on the next game...
\ It's based on a retired TPiR game
\ Said TPiR retired game offered cash and more than one merchandise prize.
\ OAR's treatment of this will offer just the cash.
Who wants to play?

(last few seconds of FF88 theme plays; audience cheers)Shadoe: Frank, you have a chance to win $5000 in cash. That's right, Frank. $5000 *and* possibly more in our game of Fortune Hunter. Wally, please set up the game. (FF reveal sfx)(scattered laughter from the crowd) I gather you've re-upped the Netflix subscription. In any event, Frank, here's how the game works. You are the fortune hunter -- and Wally has randomly hidden $5000 behind one of those dice faces. What you have to do is roll the number that has the $5000. Once you do that, game over and you win $5000. But you only have four rolls of one dice cube to find the fortune. If you don't find the big money, we multiply the number you rolled by $100 -- and give you that much money. If you repeat a number, it counts as a wasted roll -- but you still pick up $100 per point. After three rolls, if you haven't found the $5000 fortune, I'll give you a chance to stop with what you've won. If you take that fourth roll and don't find the fortune -- you lose everything. Ready to try?

You sure look ready. Stacey's just handed you the cube -- and you are on a roll. (Frank rolls) Rolling a 1. Did Frank find the fortune off the bat with 1? (audience groans) (buzz) No -- but out of Wally's kindness -- and per the rules -- you did pick up $100. Roll it again. (Frank rolls) Got a 5. Worth at least $500 -- would that it's $5000. (audience groans) (buzz) Nope. But you're $600 to the good. Third roll of four coming up. (Frank rolls) Another 5... (audience groans) (buzz) ...well, wasted roll there -- but... ...you did pick up another $500. Now, Frank, last roll's coming up. If you don't find the $5000 on this last roll, you lose the $1100 you presently have. So it's decision time. You may stop now and take $1100 -- or risk it all on the last roll. (audience shouts suggestions)

You see, Doug, I'm going to college, and that $1100 could get me a nice computer, so I'm gonna bail.

(scattered cheers and groans) Some of the folks wanted you to go for it. Others wanted you to stop. But -- before we cut you that check for $1100, we've got to know what happened if you rolled that final time. After all, we are Bill Plante types of folks who adhere to the belief your right to know overrides your right to exist. (scattered laughter from the crowd) Roll it one more time, please. If you roll a 1 or 5, we know you did the right thing. (Frank rolls) Oh -- a 3. Well -- we hope we find a "sorry" here. Do we? (ding) (audience groans) Ohhhh -- there was the five grand. And I'm afraid Wally's on the mark when he says you bailed too soon. But you do have $1100 and our thanks for playing. Back with more of On A Roll, after this. (theme plays; audience cheers)

Okay, we're setting up for the next game. Some hints...
\ It's based on a short-lived TPiR pricing game.
\ We actually alluded to this near the end of the 16th episode of OAR.
Who wants to give this a try?

Welcome, Bill. I hear you've had bad luck at the horses races. Here's hoping your luck turns around. If it does, you'll win this. (prize music plays) Shadoe: Maid service for a year. (audience cheers) Shadoe: Come home to a clean home for the next 52 weeks. Once a week for the next year, maids will come to your place of residence and make it clean. This prize is worth $5200. (audience cheers) And I bet Churchill Downs never offered that up at the races. But we are here -- because we're playing -- Finish Line. Now, Bill, we have three horses at the starting gate. Horse #1 is Red Lightning, horse #2 is Blue Flash and horse #3 is Gold Nugget. The odds at post time for each horse are two-to-one. So there's no clear favorite. In a moment, I'm going to ask you to pick which horse you think will win the race. Then, Stacey will roll our special Finish Line cube to advance a particular horse one furlong toward the finish line. Now to ensure a particular horse will move forward on each roll of the cube... ...we've replaced the number 4 with a 1... ...the number 5 with a 2... ...and the number 6 with a 3. So in effect, the numbers 1, 2 and 3 appear twice on the cube. The moment a horse crosses the finish line, the race ends right there and then. And if you have the winning horse, you're winning maid service for a year. However, if the horse you picked is in second place at the end of the race, either outright or tied, you win a consolation prize of $500. So -- which horse do you think will win this race? Horse #1, Red Lightning; horse #2, Blue Flash or horse #3 Gold Nugget?

Post by dougmorrisontheair on May 14, 2016 20:12:18 GMT -5
(scattered cheers) (call to post) Gonna pick #3, Gold Nugget. (ding) All right, if that horse runs five furlongs first -- try saying that three times fast -- you're a winner. Stacey, before *you* get on a roll, some more appropriate music, please? (finale of "William Tell Overture" plays)That's the way I like it. Good luck, Bill. Stace, we'd like lots of threes as you -- get on a roll. (Stacey rolls) (scattered cheers) There's a great start. Horse 3 is out of the starting gate. (ding) Four furlongs away from the maid service. Roll again, please, Stacey. (Stacey rolls) (more cheers) Another 3. Sweet. (ding) Other horses are still at the starting gate. That's great for you, Bill. Stacey, seems like you *and* Bill are on a roll. (Stacey rolls) (more cheers) A 3 again!?!? WOW! (ding) Only two furlongs to go. Roll again, please. (Stacey rolls) (scattered groans) Well -- something else had to come up some time. (ding) Red Lightning now out of the gate. Gold Nugget, #3, still leading. Roll again, please, Stacey. (Stacey rolls) (scattered cheers) *Another* 3. (ding) You just need one more 3 to come up, Bill. Are ya confident?

You should be. The race could be coming to a victorious end for Bill on this next roll. Come on, Stacey, we want one more three! (Stacey rolls) (scattered groans) We get a 1 instead. (ding) Poor Blue Flash. Horse #2 is still at the starting gate eating everyone else's dust. Let's see if you get a winning roll courtesy of Stacey here, Bill. Stacey, we want a 3. (Stacey rolls) (dings; SCSD win theme plays; audience cheers) And we get it! (ding) So there ya have it. Gold Nugget was golden for Bill. Bill, if you picked horse #1, you would've won $500. If you picked horse #2, which perhaps should've been scratched before we started -- (scattered laughter from the crowd) -- you would've ended up the way a lot of us end up at the wagering window -- broke. But you do win $5000+ worth of maid service. How do you feel?

Okay, after talking with the Very Famous Moving Company, the company that only moves the very famous, it looks like I can spare about another week on this thread. Then it's crunch time.
Meantime, we can still have some fun with our next game. Some hints...
\ It's based on a game played on the current LMaD.
\ Said LMaD game is believed to be retired. If my math and recollection are right, it's been about three seasons since said LMaD game has been played.
\ *Basics* of this game are components of a netgame I co-host here at NGC. (Hmmm....)
Who wants to try this one?
