Hunter's going to give a try. Shadoe, please tell the man what he's playing for. (last few seconds of FF88 theme plays; audience cheers) Shadoe: Hunter, it's a chance to win $5000 in cash! Five grand can be yours in a game we call Tic Tac Dice. (game board with clues moves stage left to reveal Tic Tac Dice board) And heeerrrreee it is -- a three-by-three grid of dice faces and Xs. Much like Tic Tac *Toe*, you want to align three Xs straight across, up-and-down or diagonally -- including any of the Xs we gave you for free. Now to turn any of those dice faces into another X, all you have to do is roll this dice cube. Since you're guaranteed to pick up another X on this first roll, go ahead and roll it. (Hunter rolls) A 4! (scattered cheers) That's smack dab in the middle. Watch what happens. (ding) Now, Hunter, here how the rest of the game works. You're allowed to roll this cube three more times. For each new number you roll, that number becomes an X. The moment you get three in a row, we pay you $5000. If, however, you repeat a number, that counts as a wasted roll. If you haven't won this game with one roll left, I'll offer you $150 per X that's on the board as a consolation prize. But if you can roll a 2, 3 or 5 right now, you're an instant winner. Think this next roll's going to be a winner?

Well, right now, it's a 50/50 shot at winning $5000. Hunter, perhaps for a short period of time, you are on a roll. (Hunter rolls) A 6! (scattered cheers) Not a winning number -- but look at what that does. (ding) Any new number gives you Tic Tac Dice. Just as long as you avoid the 4 and 6, you win. (Hunter rolls) (audience groans) (buzz) What part of "avoid the 4 and 6" did you not understand? (scattered laughter from the crowd) Okay, you have one roll left, Hunter. If you roll another 4 or 6, you leave the dice table with nothing. So -- let me offer a bailout of $150 per X on the board -- or a total of $750. Take the money or take the last roll? (audience shouts suggestions)

$750 would be nice, but according to the board, I have a 2 out of 3 shot at $5,000. I'm going to go with the odds and roll.

(audience cheers) Odds are in your favor. Any odd number or a 2 would win it for you. (Hunter rolls) Got it! (dings; SCSD win theme plays; audience cheers) Vertical Tic Tac Dice in the right column for $5000. Any plans to spend the money?

Yes, I plan on doing a lot with the cash - including investing some to create a replica of the "On a Roll" set.

Oh, please send us a photo when you get it done. By the way, I just noticed you also won diagonally in additional to the vertical alignment. Unfortunately, we don't pay extra for that. (scattered groans) Unless you guys are willing to chip in. (scattered laughter from the crowd) Congrats again on winning, Hunter. We're back in a moment. (theme plays; audience cheers)

All right. We're zipping right along. I think we can get in at least two more games.
So -- hints on the next one...
\ This next game shares its name with a retired TPiR game; that's the only similarity.
\ This game is actually based on one seen on "The Massachusetts Lottery's Bonus Bonanza" (basically, that state's "Illinois Instant Riches"; there are accounts this game, under a different name, was played on IIR).
\ If you want to play, you'll be "rolling" one dice cube. Three different colors replace the numbers.
So -- who wants to try?

These are all sensational Doug. You could spin these off and do a show called "The Dice is Right"!

Hey, Bill, funny you mention that. The games that involve rolling cubes (either one at a time or all at once) are part of OAR's rotation.
Dice Game would be called "Doug's Dice Game" and look closer to the original set-up. Player would have to roll digits in the right answer to a numeric question as opposed to rolling numbers in a car's price (all digits would still be higher than 0 and lower than 7).
Let 'Em Roll would be used on a Thursday or Friday OAR episode in the event (a) time allows and (b) we haven't had success in Wally's Car Game.
Sam, please stand by for your game.

All right, Sam, we're ready to give you a shot at -- what, Shadoe? (last few seconds of FF88 theme plays; audience cheers) Shadoe: Sam, it's a chance to win up to $7500 in cash! That's it. $7500 could be yours as you play On The Spot. Wally, please set up the game for us. (FF reveal sfx) There we go. And in the setup of the game, Sam, we've already spotted you $250 in cash. Now, I'll tell you how you can win more -- with our special On The Spot cube that Stacey has with her. The numbers 1 and 6 have each been replaced with a red spot. The 2 and 5 have each been replaced with a green spot. And the 3 and 4 are replaced with a blue spot. We'd like for you to pick a color you think you can avoid on three straight rolls of that cube. For each time you avoid that color, you win more money. Would you like to try to avoid red, green or blue?

Let's try and avoid Red!

Post by dougmorrisontheair on May 18, 2016 12:51:59 GMT -5
Avoiding the red. Wally, please lose the red spot. (ding) Thank you. Now, Sam, on your first roll, if the cube ends up on the green or blue spot, you win another $500. The next roll is for $750 -- and the final roll is worth $1000. After your third roll, you'll have a chance to go triple or nothing -- which we'll talk about later. (Stacey hands Sam cube) Thanks, Stacey. Sam, right now, you're going for $500. You -- are on a roll. (Sam rolls) (audience applause) And the green spot puts green in your pocket. (ding) Up to $750. Next roll is worth $750. Let's see if you can double up. Avoid the red. (Sam rolls) (audience groans) (buzz) Darn. A red spot. Well you're still on a roll. Last roll's for a grand. (Sam rolls) (audience applause) Cube ends up on the blue spot for another $1000. (ding) Now, Sam, we have one more roll in this game -- but it comes with a risk because this is for triple or nothing. Here's how this part of the game works. The color you wanted to avoid for the last three rolls... (ding) ...now becomes the color you *want* to roll. So -- Sam -- these are your options. You may stop now and take the $1750 -- or risk the money and try to roll a red spot. If you roll one more time and it ends up on the red spot, your money triples to $5250. If you roll again and end up on the green or blue spot, your money is multiplied by zero. And anything times zero leaves you with zero. What's your pleasure, Sam? Stop and keep the $1750 -- or put it all at risk and try to roll red for $5250? (audience shouts suggestions)

Okay, friends.
Here it is. My last bit of hosting before I *really* have to concentrate on moving.
And I'm saving OAR's version of -- wait for it -- Let 'Em Roll for last.
Our version of LER would play just like TPiR's version -- but with these differences...
\ We would play this on a "Thursday episode" or a "Friday episode" in the event the car from Wally's Car Game has not be awarded to a main game player.
\ We've replaced the higher/lower pricing element with a name game. Just like the name games we play in the main games of OAR, I'll give the audience game player the number of letters in a famous person's last name, a clue as to why this person was or is still famous (or "on a roll") and then randomly reveal three letters in the last name. A correct guess on just those three letters awards three rolls of the LER cubes; if three more letters are needed, the contestant is playing for two rolls; if (s)he is still stumped, the correct answer is revealed and (s)he is given just one roll.
\ Then, I'd go to random.org and simulate three different sets of three rolls each. Based on the video clip of LER's debut, we'll replace the numbers 1, 2 and 6 on each cube with $500, $1000 and $1500, respectively. The other sides are replaced with car icons. At least one set of rolls is guaranteed to lead to a car win at or before the third roll. (So it would be in the player's best interest to nail the name game off the clue and three letters.)
...so -- who wants to try?

[Note from Doug: Kourtney's our reigning four-time champion from the main games. As alluded to earlier, it's going to be awhile before he tries to win five straight matches before retiring without losing a match. So, we're going to pretend he's a player plucked from the audience. Oh, and because this is for demonstration purposes, the name game you'll see is partially based on a recent puzzle from a main game.]
Kourtney, see that Chevy Corvette Stingray worth more than $55,000? We've not given that car away all week. So, we're going to let you play our version of Let 'Em Roll. That's right, we've got the original ramp Price used -- and all five of these cubes... ...on three sides of each cube, we have a car icon. On the remaining sides -- three different cash amounts... ...$500... ...$1000 and... ...$1500. You must roll five car icons to win that Corvette. Now before you let these cubes roll, you must earn rolls of the cubes -- and you earn them with this name game. (FF reveal sfx)There are seven letters in this famous person's last name. In a moment, I'll give you the clue and randomly show you three letters in the name. If you answer correctly with that much information, you earn three rolls of the cube. If you're wrong, I'll give you three more letters -- but then you'd only play for two rolls. If you're still stumped after your second guess, we'll reveal the correct answer and let you roll 'em just once. So -- let's see if you can nail this off of three letters and this clue. Fans of "The Amazing Race" think he gets on a roll -- when he "philiminates" a team. (ding)

(dings; audience applause)There ya go. Two rolls are yours. Now -- I understand you'd like to play for a charity. Please tell us who you're playing for.
(And also, Kourtney, please select the first, second or third set of block rolls.)

I would like to play for the Scleroderma Foundation. It a bit personal for me because my mother was diagnosed with the disease in 1998 and passed away in 2003. I hope the money I earn will help others and get the word out about the disease and research as well.
First set for me please.

(audience respectfully applauds) Well, if you win that car for the Scleroderma Foundation, they could certainly auction it off and, perhaps, make more money in the process. If you stop and take cash -- or end up with cash -- we'll cut 'em a check. So with that, two rolls of the blocks are yours. Please take the bucket of blocks from Stace -- and then let 'em roll down this ramp -- because you, Kourtney, are on a roll. (audience cheers as Kourtney rolls) (scattered applause) Annnnnd -- just one car, a $1500 payoff and three $500 payoffs for a total of $3000. Kourtney, you may stop here and take $3000 for the Scleroderma Foundation -- or give the money back, we'll take this car block aside, let you roll the other four and hope for nothing but car symbols. What's your pleasure? (audience shouts suggestions)
