It's now time to present the latest in a series of game shows that the Shack will debut this year: Card Sharks! This show will play out the same way as my 2015 pilot, but in the Money Cards round, the first row will be worth $500, and the second row worth $1,000. I will need two players for this game. Who's going to play?

And away we go...
(1978 CS Intro)
ERIN HARRIS: Aces are high, deuces are low! Call it right, and win the dough...on Card Sharks! (1978 CS Theme) And now, here's the host of Card Sharks, Bill Skinner!
Thank you, Erin Harris, and welcome to the first official episode of Card Sharks! And let's meet our two players now, mringgenberg and pathfinder20! Nice to see you both; good luck to you. Now, if you remember, the objective is to guess a series of five cards correctly before your opponent does. Each episode is a best two-out-of-three match, and whoever wins will then play the Money Cards at the end of the show. And welcome our two dealers, Amber Lancaster and Tiffany Coyne! Amber will load in the cards for mringgenberg, and Tiffany will do the same for pathfinder20. But there's a catch to playing the cards: You'll have to answer a series of questions that I will ask you in order to attempt to control them. There are four questions per contestant in each round, and whoever answers correctly will be granted control of the cards. With that in mind, I present the first question to the player who signed up first, and that is mringgenberg. We asked 100 people this question:
"In Super Bowl 50, the Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers to give Peyton Manning his second career championship. Do you think that the game was fixed in favor of the Broncos?"
Out of those 100 people, how many of them said that the Super Bowl was fixed?

39

So mringgenberg says 39 people said the Super Bowl was fixed.
ding!
pathfinder20, is the actual number higher or lower than 39?

To be honest, didn't watch the super bowl at all. I am go again the odds and say lower by a wee bit.

Alright, pathfinder20 says it's lower.
ding!
Now the actual number of people who said that the Super Bowl was fixed is...
ding-ding-ding!
...58, so it's not lower, and mringgenberg, you get to play the cards first. What's his first card, Amber?
(K ⋄)
It's a King of diamonds! Now, you can play the card as it is, or change it. What would you like to do?

Lower!

|
Post by Bill Skinner on Feb 17, 2016 17:50:17 GMT -5
Is it lower than a king?
(Q ♥)
ding!
Yes, it's a Queen of hearts! Now you can continue to call higher/lower, or you can freeze right now. What would you like to do?

Lower than a Queen?
(3 ♠)
ding!
Yes, a 3 of spades! What's your decision now?

|
|
Post by mringgenberg on Feb 18, 2016 11:48:01 GMT -5
Higher!
|
|
|
Post by Bill Skinner on Feb 18, 2016 12:08:29 GMT -5
Higher than a 3?
(7 ♥)
ding!
Yes, it's a 7 of hearts, and you're now one card away from sweeping the first round. Continue or freeze?

And on we go to the second question in the round. This time, it's for pathfinder20. We asked 100 people the following:
"Do you think that there are too many reality shows on TV today?"
How many of those people said yes?
|
|
|
Post by pathfinder20 on Feb 18, 2016 22:19:01 GMT -5
I feel like a lot of people are getting tired of the trite "reality" shows. Some are educational but many see to kill brain cells in our brains. It's going to be a high number: 85.
|
|
|
Post by mringgenberg on Feb 18, 2016 22:30:18 GMT -5
It's going to be a little lower.
|
|
|
Post by Bill Skinner on Feb 19, 2016 12:07:54 GMT -5
So pathfinder20 says 85...
ding!
...and mringgenberg thinks it's lower.
ding!
Well, the actual number of people who said that there is too much reality TV these days is...
ding-ding-ding!
...88, so it's not lower. pathfinder20, you missed it by three, but you have control of the cards now. Now Tiffany, show us the first card, please.
(10 ♥)
It's a 10. You have the option to play that card, or change it. What would you like to do?

Let's go lower.

|
Post by Bill Skinner on Feb 19, 2016 15:11:02 GMT -5
Lower than 10, Tiffany?
(A ⋄)
buzz!
Oh no, it's an Ace! So mringgenberg, this is your chance to win the round, and you can't change your card; you have to play it now. Is it higher or lower than a 7?

Lower than a 7, Amber?
(3 ♣)
ding-ding-ding!
(1978 CS Win Cue)
Yes, it is, and you win the first round, plus $1,000! But when we come back, pathfinder20 will have a chance to tie up the match. (1978 CS Theme) We'll be back after this.

Welcome back to Card Sharks, and mringgenberg currently leads this match one game to none. But now, we'll give pathfinder a chance to tie it up and force a tiebreaker. This time, the first question of the round goes to pathfinder20, we asked 100 people, and here it is:
"Between Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, whose death caused the bigger impact on the music/entertainment industry?"
pathfinder20, how many people said Michael Jackson?
|
|
|
Post by pathfinder20 on Feb 20, 2016 21:21:53 GMT -5
Both were huge losses especially as young as they were. Both deaths left a huge hole in music. However, I think a lot more people mourned for MIchael Jackson. Let's say 77.
|
|
|
Post by mringgenberg on Feb 20, 2016 22:17:05 GMT -5
It's a little higher.
|
|
|
Post by Bill Skinner on Feb 21, 2016 13:20:17 GMT -5
So pathfinder20 says 77...
ding!
...and mringgenberg says that it's higher.
ding!
The actual number of people who picked Michael Jackson is...
ding-ding-ding!
...67, so it's not higher. And as a result, pathfinder20 will play the first card in the second round. What is it, Tiffany?
(A ♠)
(cheers from audience)
It's an Ace! I know what you're going to say, but I'll have to ask it anyway. Are you going to play that card, or change it?

Keep it! Lower!

As long as it's not another Ace, you'll be alright. Is it lower?
(4 ♠)
ding!
Yes, a 4! Keep going or freeze?
