Hello, everybody, and Happy New Year.
My hosting party is starting with The $40,000 Chain Reaction. Since it's been away for awhile, some notes are in order. Cameron Shields returns with one win and $5251. We're now seeking his challenger.
That challenger could be you if you're the closest to the right answer to this qualifying question.
On August 30, 2012, at 2:00am Central, we recorded a GSN rerun of "The $25,000 Pyramid"; this episode was hosted by Dick Clark. Not counting bonuses from the 7-11 card and any tie-breaker after a score of 21 points to 21 points, how much money was awarded to the contestants in this half-hour episode? We can confirm no individual player swept for $25,000 -- so please respond in increments of $50 and make sure your answer is lower than $20,050.
This game operates on 24-hour deadlines. Please PM me your answer in 24 hours from now.

Thanks for your patience. Had to take care of a clerical matter. Let's see the answer first. (ding)This was a budget saving show. The first winner's circle round only paid $150 (50 100); the second winner's circle round paid $300 (50 100 150). On a positive note, a champion retired with more than $53,000 in cash after five days. Now to the clerical matter... $1,500 koopakid17 $1,500 gameboy2000
...Kevin (koopakid17) played in Episode 7 -- while gameboy2000 has never played this version of Chain Reaction. So, we respectfully asked Kevin to let gameboy2000 have a shot. We'll see Kevin at Episode 12 at the earliest. On with the show.
(theme plays; audience applause)The game is -- The $40,000 Chain Reaction -- where one word leads to another -- and the right word could lead to a big payoff.(more applause) Helloooooo, everybody, and Happy New Year. Welcome to The $40,000 Chain Reaction. Good to be back after USA's holiday movie marathon kept our time slot warm. Please make welcome our returning champion, Cameron Shields, with $5251 -- and his challenger -- gameboy2000. (audience cheers) (board opens as part of the theme plays)Players, we resolved to give away more money in 2016. So that's why we're diving into the game right now. Let's set up the Round 1 chain -- which starts with... (ding)...HAMILTON and it ends with DEAF. There are five links in between. Each link contains at least one word -- possibly more than one. Each of those five links in the chain is worth $250. The player who completes the chain scores an additional $250. The first player to reach $5000 wins the game -- and then has a chance to parlay pennies into our top prize of $40,000. (audience cheers) gameboy2000, you're the challenger. You'll start us off by selecting a letter below HAMILTON or above DEAF; you'll also give that letter for Cameron to guess or take for yourself to guess.
