Almost time to start our 17th episode of Crag: The Numbers Game. Some notes are in order.
\ John Lopez returns with one win and $8000.
\ The bonus prize package for winning five straight matches is a new car plus a gas card with $150,000 on it. For each show the car goes unclaimed, we tack on another $25,000 to the card.
Now it's time for qualifying. The player closest to the right answer, high or low, gets to play.
Before the show, a member of our Crag staff rolled three money dice based on the currency from the "Dragon Ball" anime franchise. The numbers 1 through 6 were replaced with, respectively, 100 Zeni, 150 Zeni, 250 Zeni, 300 Zeni, 400 Zeni and 500 Zeni. What is the sum of the single roll of the three dice? Please respond in increments of 50 Zeni and make sure your answer is higher than 250 Zeni and lower than 1550 Zeni.
This game operates on 24-hour deadlines. So, please PM me your answer in 24 hours from now.

(time passes) Okay, let's take a look at the result. (Crag staffer shakes up bucket; pours dice down ramp) 150, 400 and 300 add up to 850 Zeni in any DBZ fan's language. Who's the closest? 800 Billy GardellHey now! Half of "Mike & Molly" and the star of "Monopoly Millionaires' Club" gets to play. (Sorry, Billy, we don't have a rock-n-roller to roll our dice.) Anyhoo, show gets on the road after station identification.
Staff announcer: Meet our high school player of the week -- tonight at 6.
(lights in studio gradually are turned on)
(audience cheers)Helloooo, everybody, I'm Doug Morris and this is Crag: The Numbers Game -- where 13 can be your lucky number. On our last show, we crowned a new champion and he came within a *whisker* of winning that million dollars in Super Crag. We won't show you that unfortunate roll here. It's all over YouTube by now. (scattered laughter from the crowd) He doesn't have a million -- but he does have $8000. Let's welcome back John Lopez and welcome aboard Billy Gardell. (audience cheers) All things equal, I think it only makes sense we talk about million dollar dreams. John, let's say you win this match and *then* win that million in Super Crag. What do you do with that million?

Honestly, I haven't given it much thought, Doug. I do know a portion of that will be invested, and some will be going to a growing video game collection.

Sounds like you have decent plans. Good luck as you defend for the first time. We also wish good luck to Billy.
Billy, I ask you the same thing. Let's say you become the first member of our millionaires' club. (scattered laughter from the crowd) You knew I had to go there, folks. What would you do with the million?

A million? Well, I'll donate some of them and maybe buy myself a new car. Oh, and a Cheeseburger!

(scattered laughter) And perhaps take the car to the Olympia Restaurant and buy yourself a cheeseburger -- and a Pepsi. John and Billy, just like the dice game of Crag, our game is about numbers -- particularly the numbers you can roll on dice. The right answer to each question on our show is a number between 1 and 6 inclusive. Sometimes, we'll ask for the ordinal or Roman numeral equivalent. And then there are missing digit questions to watch out for. (ding)Right now, we start simple with a single digit question. Hands on the buzzers and away we go. Single digit question: At the 2010 Grammy Awards, how many awards did Beyonce' win? 19 john1987248 34 Billy Gardell 21 randomizer.org(John buzzes in)John?

Champ hints she had a big night. Well -- let's see. Did Beyonce' win 6 Grammy awards in 2010? (ding; audience applause)Yes! She earned more than any other woman had won in a single night. John, as you know, each correct answer earns up to two rolls of the Crag dice. If you like what you see on your first roll, take the point value of the combination and we'll proceed to Round 2. If you'd rather reroll, freeze up to two dice and reroll the rest. Over here, we have the different ways you can score a lot of points. There are four different straights in the game of Crag worth 20 points each. The 1-2-3 make up a low straight; 4-5-6 a high straight; 1-3-5 an odd straight making 2-4-6 an even straight. It doesn't matter how they appear on the board -- just as long as they're all different and they're all low, high, odd or even. If you roll three of the same number, that's a triple for 25 points. And as we often say, 13 can be a lucky number in this game. If you roll three different numbers that total 13, we'll double the sum for 26. But if you have a pair of numbers plus an odd number that total 13, that's a Crag for 50 points. (audience cheers)(rolling sfx)Dice are now rolling. They lock into your buzzer one at a time. Let's see how many points we award in Round 1.

(ding)Starting the match with a 6. (ding)There's a 4. (ding) (scattered cheers) And a 3 completes a great first roll. Three different numbers totaling 13. I'll double that for 26 if you stop the round here, John.

Take the points

Taking the points. Very well. Remember, it takes 100 points to win a game on Crag. If no one reaches the century mark by the end of the tenth round, the player closer to 100 wins. Each game pays $2500 to the victor and $500 to the runner-up. And don't forget the bonus of ten crisp new $100 to the first player in the match to roll a Crag. First player to rack up $5000 wins the match -- and the try at the Super Crag. On to our second round question -- and it's about classic TV. Single digit question: The original "What's My Line?" series was moderated by a broadcast journalist. How many different letters are in his last name? 55 john1987248 61 Billy Gardell 87 randomizer.org (Billy buzzes in)Billy?

Taking the 26 points. After Round 2: john1987248 Billy GardellAnd we're indeed level pegging as we go to a missing digit question. We'll play a sample question first. (ding)On the board, we have the current lowest valued cash prize on the punchboard in "The Price is Right's" Punch-A-Bunch game. All you have to do is chime in and tell me the missing digit -- which is, in this case... (ding)...1 -- for $100. We now clear the board and play the question intended for this third round. Missing digit question: I'll show you the year "The Bold and the Beautiful" celebrated its fifth anniversary on CBS's daytime schedule -- and you tell me the missing digit.(ding)04 john1987248 13 Billy Gardell 47 randomizer.org(Billy buzzes in)Billy?
[Note to both players from Doug: so that we may pick up the pace just a smidge, please go ahead and respond with three stopper letters parenthetically along with your answer. Thanks.]

Billy's guessing the last digit in the year is a 2. Did B&B turn five in 1992? (ding; audience applause)Yes. Good guess, Billy. (rolling sfx)Well, you got a non-Crag 13 the last round. Let's see if a Crag comes together here.

(ding)Stop on a 5. (ding)There's a 2. (ding) (scattered groans) And we almost had our third straight non-Crag 13. The 4 on the end completes a roll worth 11 points. Billy, would you like the 11 or freeze up to two of the dice and reroll the rest?

(scattered cheers) Going for the name of the game. Okay, first, let's freeze the 5 and 4. (freeze sfx)For the rest of the round, they will not reroll. The 2 in the center, on the other hand... (rolling sfx)...is reroll and awaits your stop. (dings; audience cheers)The 4! Crag! (Doug walks over to Billy's podium) Billy, this isn't Monopoly money. It's... (crowd and Doug count money in unison) Doug: 100... Crowd: One... (ding)Doug: 200... Crowd: Two... (ding)Doug: 300... Crowd: Three... (ding)Doug: 400... Crowd: Four... (ding)Doug: 500... Crowd: Five... (ding)Doug: 600... Crowd: Six... (ding)Doug: 700... Crowd: Seven... (ding)Doug: 800... Crowd: Eight... (ding)Doug: 900... Crowd: Nine... (ding)Doug: $1000! (dings; audience cheers)(Doug returns to his podium) And with that, Billy zooms into the lead -- and needs a triple or another combination of 13 to surpass the goal of 100 points. John, if you win this question, you'll have a chance to narrow the gap. Round 4 takes us to Sunday School. Missing digit question: Call him Ishmael. According to The Bible, I'll show you the age at the time of Ishmael's passing -- and you tell me the missing digit.(ding)21 john1987248 87 Billy Gardell 21 randomizer.org(John buzzes in)John?
