Almost time to start the sweet 16th episode of Crag: The Numbers Game. Some notes before we proceed.
\ Steven Anderson returns with one win and $9000 (yes, Nappa and DBZ fans, that *can* be right; that total is correct).
\ The prize for winning five straight matches is now a Pikachu-inspired Toyota plus a gas card currently loaded with $125,000. The card's value will be augmented by $25,000 for every show the car goes unclaimed.
Now let's get to qualifying. The player closest to the right answer, high or low, plays against Steven. And here's the query.
On April 5, 2014, at 6:30pm Central, we watched a rerun of "Wheel of Fortune". In the jackpot round, the jackpot went unclaimed in this episode. What was the value of the jackpot by the end of the round? Please respond in increments of $50 and make sure your answer is higher than $5000.
This game operates on 24-hour deadlines. Please PM me your answer in 24 hours from now.

(time passes) All right, everyone's answers are locked in. Let's see how high that jackpot grew. (ding)Well -- what'd'ya know? Jackpot was over 9000 that time. (pause) Good, they didn't play the clip. Uhhh -- who's the closest? $8500 john1987248John Lopez is going to challenge the champ on Crag -- after station identification.
Voice guy: Helpful automotive advice on "Fernwood Tonight" -- tomorrow on Channel 6. (lights in studio gradually are turned on)
(audience cheers)Helloooo, everybody, I'm Doug Morris and this is Crag: The Numbers Game -- where 13 can be your lucky number. Hope you had a great weekend -- or if you had a rotten weekend, perhaps you're happy to see us. (scattered laughter from the crowd) Our returning champion had a strong performance the last time out -- only to run into bad luck in Super Crag. Our challenger looks to make a strong move to become the new champ. Returning with $9000 is Steven Anderson. Challenging him is John Lopez. (audience cheers)Steven, we learned on the last show that you're a fan of "My Little Pony". We'd be in remiss if we didn't ask this question. Who's your favorite character from that show and why?

Pinkie Pie is by far my favorite. She is energetic, wild, and like me very random at times. She is the reason I worked in a party store for a couple of years, although I do not necessarily endorse career changes based on a character on a TV show. Eternal Cheerleader is the least of what I'd describe her as.

Sounds like you're well-versed on everything MLP. You definitely played the game well on the last show.
Good luck to you today, Steven. And we also say good luck to the newcomer, John.
John, please tell us about yourself.

Well, Doug, I'm a retro gamer at heart, an aspiring writer, and from what I've been told by friends, a walking trivia machine.

Well -- we're about to put both of your trivia knowledge to the test as we start a new match. Steven and John, much like the regular dice game of Crag, our game is all about numbers -- particularly the numbers you can roll on dice. The right answer to each question on our show is a number between 1 and 6 inclusive. Sometimes, we'll ask for the Roman numeral or ordinal equivalent of one of those numbers. And there are also missing digit questions to watch for. I'll explain how they work later. (ding)One question mark pops up -- representing the right answer to a single digit question. And here's that question. Single digit question: On the U.S./Canadian border, how many interconnected Great Lakes are there? 07 asja2002 30 john1987248 44 randomizer.org (John buzzes in)John?

John says there are 4 Great Lakes. Is he right? (buzz)Nope. This means Steven gets a chance to steal. Steven, the Crag dice will offer the right answer and two wrong answers. It's up to you to pick the right one. (ding)Repeating the question. On the U.S./Canadian border, how many interconnected Great Lakes are there?Steven, are there 3, 5 or 6?

Erie I'm pretty sure is separate, and there are only 5 Great Lakes, so my answer is Three

Champ says there are threeeeee -- (unintelligible dialogue from the judge) -- hold on. Yes, Judge Von Erik? (scattered laughter from the crowd) (more unintelligible dialogue from the judge) Okay, fine by me. Gentlemen, the right answer is 5. But the judge has deemed the wording of the question a bit misleading. So here's what's going to happen. We normally play a ten-round game unless someone reaches 100 points. But we'll play eleven rounds to compensate for this mishap, okay? (audience respectfully applauds) Since Steven won the last match in record time, we actually have questions to burn. So the producers are getting an unused question from that match ready. They'll get it to me eventually. By the way, the winner of each game collects $2500, the runner-up collects $500 and we also award $1000 to the first player to roll a Crag in the match. First player to collect $5000 in the match goes on to play for much more in the Super Crag. (ding)Now that we've wiped some egg off of our faces -- (a few laughs from the crowd) -- we have the board ready for a new single digit question. (Doug scans card) Okay, no doubt about this question. Here we go with Round 2 of 11. Single digit question: How many cast members of the 1987 movie "Predator" went on to become governors of U.S. states? 16 asja2002 92 john1987248 61 randomizer.org (John buzzes in)[NOTE TO BOTH PLAYERS: No urgent need to PM me a buzz code for the extra 11th question for this game. Please PM me a buzz code as soon as you can. Thanks.]

John says 2 of those cast members went on to govern U.S. states. Is he right? (ding; audience applause)There we go. Arnold Schwarzenegger later governed California. Jesse Ventura went on to win a gubernatorial election in Minnesota. We should clarify this question was prepared before word came Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to be the next boss on "Celebrity Apprentice". John, with that right answer, you have two rolls of the dice to score a Crag. Feast your eyes on this jumbo-esque-tron over here -- for the ways to score lots o' points. There are four different straights worth 20 points each in Crag. The numbers 1-2-3 make a low straight; 4-5-6 a high straight; 1-3-5 an odd straight and 2-4-6 an even straight. Order of the numbers matters not -- just as long as they're all different and they're all low, high, odd or even. Anytime you roll three of the same number, that's a triple for 25 points. And as I noted at the start of the show, 13 is a lucky number in Crag. Anytime the dice total 13, we'll double the sum for 26 points. *But* if you have a pair of numbers and an odd number total 13 on the board, that's a Crag -- and it's worth 50 big points. (rolling sfx)And those ten crisp new $100 bills are burning a hole in my pocket. I'll put 'em in your hands if you can roll a Crag in this round. John, please stop the dice, one at a time, as they lock into your buzzer. [NOTE FROM DOUG: John, please "stop the dice" with three letters from A to F inclusive. You may repeat letters if you think that helps.]

(ding)Stop on a 4. (pause) Hit it again, please. (ding)Stop on a 6. (ding)(scattered cheers) And stop on a 2. Good first roll, John. That's one of the straights for 20 points -- if you stop the round here.

(shocked and stunned reactions from the crowd) Declining the straight? Okay -- let's see if that works. (rolling sfx)Perhaps he's after that grand bonus for the first Crag in the match. (ding)Stop on a 4. (ding) (a few groans from the crowd) There's a 1. (ding) And a 5 means you end this round with 10 points, John. After Round 2 of 11: asja2002 john1987248Risk didn't pay off, unfortunately. But we're still early in the game. Round 3 -- get ready to match certain stars of music as we fill in a blank. (MG '7x stinger) (scattered cheers) It's also a missing digit question. The missing digit's represented by, of course, a blank. I'll show you the name of the reggae group who remade Neil Diamond's "Red Red Wine" -- and you tell me the digit that's missing.036 asja2002 018 john1987248 100 randomizer.org (Steven buzzes in)Steven?

Champ confidently says a 4. Are we talking about UB40? (ding; audience applause)We are. In my case, I be more than 40. (scattered laughter from the crowd) (rolling sfx)Steven, your chance to score in this game comes now. [NOTE FROM DOUG: For any new viewers, responding *with* stopper letters and an answer to a question is highly recommended to move the game forward] (ding)Stop on a 4. (ding)There's a 6. (ding) (scattered cheers) And there's a 3. Steven, the dice total 13 -- but they're all different. So that's not a Crag. But I can double that sum for 26 points -- if you end the round here.

(time passes) (buzz buzz)No decision in time -- so the round ends with Steven taking the points. After Round 3 of 11: asja2002 john1987248Steven takes the lead. As we start Round 4, we're about to fill in *another* blank. (MG '7x stinger) (scattered cheers) And it's also another BLANKING music question. (scattered laughter from the crowd) And it goes something -- like this. We're about to show you the title of a hit song by Lynyrd Skynyrd. When Earl slides the title open, fill in the blank with the word "One", "Two", "Three", "Four", "Five" or "Six". (ding)56 asja2002 54 john1987248 19 randomizer.org (John buzzes in)John?

(ding)Starting with a 2. (ding)There's a 5. (ding) (scattered groans and woos from the crowd) And there's another 5. John, you're one away from a magic 13. Would you like to stop and take 12 points -- or freeze up to two dice and reroll the rest?

(mix of groans and woahs from the crowd) Again, rerolling all three dice. Sounds like some folks wanted you to freeze the fives for a possible Crag or triple. But it's your decision. (rolling sfx)All the dice are rerolling. (ding)Stop on a 1. (ding)Stop on another 1. This might be a triple! (ding) (audience groans) Then again -- might not. Eight points, though. John, at least you narrowed the gap in score a bit. Just eight points separate first from second place. Remember, we're playing an eleven-round game due to a production error in Round 1. Round 5 starts with a missing digit question. We're going to play it on the board center stage. This time, the missing digit will be represented by a question mark. The missing digit will still be higher than 0 and lower than 7. And here's that question. Missing digit question: I'll show you the year Nolan Ryan recorded his 4000th strikeout -- and you tell me the missing digit.(ding)09 asja2002 29 john1987248 63 randomizer.org(John buzzes in)John?
[NOTE FROM DOUG: John, in addition to your answer, please go ahead and respond with three stopper letters in case you give me the right answer. Thanks.]

Challenger says 5 is the last digit in the year. Did the Ryan Express have 4000 strikeouts by 1985? (ding; audience applause) (rolling sfx)Yes -- and the dice are already ready for you, John. (ding)Stop on a 5. (ding)Stop on a 1. (ding) (scattered cheers) And stop on a 3 to complete an odd straight. Now -- John -- you may stop here and take 20 points -- *or* -- you may freeze up to two of these dice and reroll the rest.
