All right, as everyone knows by now, we lost Satoru Iwata a few weeks ago. Therefore, in response to the death of the well respected Nintendo president, I have come up with an idea for a special episode of Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?, which ironically enough, also marks the shows's NGC debut. Anyway, this special episode involves Vic The Slick stealing the Nintendo headquarters from Japan and I need three contestants to help us track down Carmen and Vic and restore the Nintendo building to its' rightful owners. I will also need a Chief. If you'd like to participate, sign up here.

Still need somebody to be the Chief. If nobody signs up for that role within the next 24 hours, then we will proceed with a computerized Chief

Thanks for the offer, Raymond, but let's see what happens first. I have sent a PM to Jonathan and if I do not get a reply by tomorrow night, then you'll be the Chief. So be on standby just in case.

Jonathan has agreed to be the Chief. I am in the process of finalizing everything with him right now, and once that is completed, we will begin the show.

All deadlines for this will be 48 hours, as is the policy in all of my games. James, Matt and John, get ready because the case starts now! (Show opens with me standing on an empty set) Me: As a lot of you are aware by now, we recently lost a well respected man in the video game community. That man is none other than Satoru Iwata, the well respected and well liked president of Nintendo. In response to this, the folks here at PBS have come up with a special episode of Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? dedicated to the memory of Satoru Iwata. Although Satoru is no longer with us, his memory will live on forever. And now, enjoy the show. (Jump cut to shot of spinning globe) Today's caper is presented by WQED Pittsburgh and WGBH Boston. Carmen's gang is bankrolled by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and by Viewers Like You. (Jonathan, you're up to give the details of the case and the introduction of the players as well as myself)

Today's episode... NOTORIOUS NINTENDO KNOCK-OFF (Rockapella sings intro ditty) Gumshoes, Carmen's cadre of conniving creeps have struck again! The scene of the crime: Kyoto, Japan. (Shot of me playing a game on a Wii U) Die, little Goomba! Gotcha! Oh, sorry...just playing on one of the over 670 million hardware units sold by the Nintendo Corporation. If you've played a video game, odds are pretty good that Nintendo had something to do with its production. Although it began producing video games in 1980, its history goes back much further to 1889, when it was founded in Kyoto as a company producing cards for a Japanese game called "Hanafuda." After nearly 100 years producing home game equipment, Nintendo branched out into the emerging video game market, producing home systems ranging from the Game and Watch to the Nintendo Entertainment System to the Super Nintendo to the Gamecube to the Wii U. Along the way, it has produced some of the world's all-time best-selling video game titles, including the Super Mario series. In fact, over 4 billion software units have been sold, entertaining millions of gamers worldwide... ...or so we thought, until now... (Scene switches to Vic the Slick raiding Nintendo's HQ) ...when Vic the Slick snuck into Kyoto, raided all the hardware and software, took the employees hostage, and made off with every trace of the company! He thinks that now that Satoru Iwata, the late President of Nintendo, is gone, he'll be in a prime position to corner the video game market with his new title "Super Swipe Brothers," starring himself and his fellow gang members. (Scene switches back to me) Your mission: stomp out Vic the Slick, power up Nintendo once again, and say "Game Over!" to Carmen Sandiego! (Camera pans the cheering crowd) The loot is gone, and the chase is on! Rockapella: WHERE IN THE WORLD IS...CARMEN SANDIEGO? (Switch to alley, where Rockapella is seen singing the contestant intro cue...the gumshoes are at the newsstand. As each is introduced, he waves to the camera, then runs into the agency) Me: One of these gumshoes could find her! James Greek! Matt Ringgenberg! John Lopez! (Mark enters, as Rockapella catches up to him) And now, here's ACME's Special Agent in Charge of Training New Recruits...MARK LIOTTA!

(I come through the door to a tremendous cheer from the audience) Thanks guys, much appreciate it. (I go down the line and high five everyone) John, pleasure to see you. Matt, welcome aboard buddy. James, nice to see ya. And especially a pleasure to see everyone's favorite group, Rockapella! They're here all the time and everyone goes nuts over them. All right, you three have heard about the case from the Chief already, so we're going to start all three of you off with $500. Each correct answer you give me adds another $100 to your total and the two of you with the highest scores after this round will move on to the next round. If everyone's ready, we'll get set to hear about our first clue. Chief, let's go. (You're up to give the first clue, Jonathan)

Gumshoes, Vic the Slick has stolen the Nintendo Corporation and there's no time to lose. Here's the skinny on the slick one...
(Scene switches to a file cabinet...out comes Vic's file as Rockapella sings the longer version of "Vic the Slick!")
His motto: "I'll do anything to make a deal - beg, borrow, or steal - mainly steal."
(Scene switches back to me at my desk...I have a tray of various items in front of me)
I know what you're thinking. No, these are not items Vic is trying to sell on the black market, nor are they the consolation prizes on this episode. These are items sent to us courtesy of ACME Inventions and Discoveries-Net. Vic is in one of the largest nations on Earth, both in size and in population. It's credited with the invention of every item on my tray, including the dominoes, playing cards, toothbrush, and fireworks. They also devised a water-powered clock that struck a bell on the hour, every hour, similar to the grandfather clock in my office. Speaking of time, you'd never have to adjust your wristwatch while visiting the country. Since 1949, this country has been in the same time zone and is the largest country to have just one time zone. But, time is not on your side, gumshoes. Find Vic, and he'll lead us to Carmen Sandiego! Mark...
(I disappear from the screen)

Thanks, Chief. Okay gumshoes, what country did Vic go to? Is it: Mongolia (bong), China (bong), or Indonesia (bong)? Remember the clues we heard from the Chief. One of the largest nations on Earth, water-powered clock and largest country to have just one time zone. Come up with an answer as quickly as you can, please. (John, Matt and James, the three of you have 48 hours to PM your answers to me)

(I'll let it slide this time, James. But next time, give me your answer via PM please) All right, everyone has their answers locked in so let's check them. James, what did you say? James: I said China. Me: Matt, what did you say? Matt: I said Mongolia. Me: And John, what did you say? John: I said China. Me: Two of you went with China, and the answer we're looking for is.....................China. Well done, guys. James and John, you both go up to $600 while Matt stays at $500. For our next clue, I'll just go over to our trusty filing cabinet over here. (I head over to the filing cabinet and try to open it, but to no avail) It appears to be locked for some reason. Unless I'm not pulling hard enough. (I pull harder, but it still won't open) I guess I'll have to pry it open. (Just as I'm about to do so, the filing cabinet suddenly opens) Scratch the part about prying it open. (I pull out the file related to the case and skim over it) According to this file, Vic took off to the 9th largest country in Europe. The country in question became a satellite state in 1947 after a falsified referendum took control of this country. It also says that this country is one of the safest countries in the world to live in with a total area of 312,679 square kilometers. Finally, this country's Communist government was overthrown and therefore adopted a new constitution establishing itself as a democracy. (I skim some more) Yes, all useful information. (I then toss the file away as the cabinet closes. I then go back to the gumshoes) All right, where did Vic go to now? Did he go to: Ukraine (bong)? Belarus (bong)? or Poland (bong)? Remember the clues: Ninth largest country in Europe, total area of 312,679 square kilometers, and satellite state. Come up with your answers as quickly as possible if you please. (James, Matt and John, the three of you have 48 hours from now to PM your answers to me)

And everyone's ready so let's see how you did. James, what did you say? James: I said Poland. Me: Matt, how about you? Matt: I said Ukraine. Me: John, what did you say? John: I said Poland. Me: Two for Poland and one for Ukraine. The right answer is.................Poland. Nicely done, gentlemen. James and John, the two of you go up to $700 while Matt stays at $500. (Thunder and lightning sfx) My goodness, that can mean one of two things. Either there's a bad storm headed our way or.................it's time for the Lightning round. I'm going to ask three questions, and all three of these have to do with Poland. Every right answer adds $50 to your score, and here's the first question. In what year was the Kingdom of Poland founded? Was it 1020, 1025 or 1030? (For this part, you guys give your answers on the forum)

1025 is right. Another $50 for you there, John, as we go to question two. The year that World War 1 ended was also the same year that Poland regained its independence as the Second Polish Republic. What year did this happen in? Was it 1917, 1918 or 1919?

That's the right year, and that's another $50 for you, John. Third and final question coming up right now. The establishment of a Polish state can be traced back to 966, when Mieszko I converted to what religion? Did he convert to Christianity, Buddhism or Taoism?
