After a hiatus of almost 10 years, we are back for more fun with puns! Definition was a Canadian game show that ran for 15 seasons from the mid-1970s to the late-1980s, producing just under 2,000 total episodes. It was primarily hosted by the late great Jim Perry. The game holds similarities to both Hangman and Wheel of Fortune in that it presents word puzzles to solve. The clues or "definitions" come in the form of humorous puns. Here's an example:
Definition: What the opera-singing fisherman did. Solution: He hit the high C.
As they did on the television show for most of its run, we will play best two-out-of-three wins the match and becomes defending champion. The idea being that you first give a letter away that you think is not in the puzzle, then take a letter that is in the puzzle. If successful, you can take a guess at what you think the solution is. You lose your turn if you give a letter away that is in the puzzle (resulting in a free guess for your opponent), or if you take a letter that isn't in the puzzle. Back and forth we go like this until the definition is solved.
Game 1 is worth $1,000 for solving it. Game 2 is worth $2,000. Game 3, if necessary, is worth $3,000. In each game, the player solving it also earns $100 for every uncovered letter that remained when it was solved. The champion plays the Bonus Definition which could pay off more than $20,000.
There will be a 48-hour timer in play with this. If you do not respond within 48 hours and you have not indicated that you are unavailable by posting something in the Vacations thread, that will be considered as "your time is up" and you lose your turn.
Matt Ringgenberg is our defending champion, so I will ask him to check in please.
We also need a challenger for Matt, so who else would like to play?

("Soul Bassa Nova" theme playing) Dave Devall: "Definition: An irresistible ad for baseball. Solution? A perfect pitch! (audience groans) And our solution to fun with puns on Net Game Central is Definition! (audience begins continuous applause) And stepping into view is the host of our show...Glen Brown!" (audience continues applauding, I emerge from the back of the studio, standing at a podium between our two seated contestants) Thank you ladies and gentlemen and please keep that applause going for our legendary Canadian announcer and meteorologist Dave Devall! (audience continues applauding as a close-up shot of Dave is taken)
For those unfamiliar with Dave, he of course was the original announcer on this show when it first appeared on Canadian television back in the 1970s with the late great Jim Perry as host. Dave also at one point held the Guinness World Record for longest career as a weather forecaster, holding that position for more than 48 years! We are thrilled to have him here as our announcer as well! After a very long hiatus, we are excited to be back here on NGC and happy to welcome back our defending champion, from Council Bluffs, Iowa, Matt Ringgenberg! (audience applauds) Matt won $19,700 on our pilot episode back in August 2015! Matt, you told us at that time that you worked in a supermarket. Do you still work there or are you doing something different now?

Well good for you and once again, it's a pleasure to have you back on the show with us.
Your opponent today hails from Golden Valley, Minnesota. Let's welcome Nels Snesrud to the show! (audience applauds)
Nels, it says here you're interested in bowling. I have bowled a time or two myself in the past. What other interests or hobbies do you have?

Oh that's interesting! I bet you have a lot of fun making cool designs on that! Thank you for being with us today Nels and best of luck to both of you.
Gentlemen, our match of Definition is a best-of-three format, meaning the first one of you that solves two definitions is our champion and plays our Bonus Definition which can pay off more than twenty thousand dollars! (audience applauds as theme begins to play)
We'll get that first definition up on the board and get play underway after a brief word from our sponsors! (continued theme and applause; fade to black)

(fade in with theme and applause)
Welcome back to Definition! I am here with our champion Matt Ringgenberg and his challenger Nels Snesrud and I believe we are ready to start the match, with this definition.
Dave Devall: "A cow that is always sitting".
A cow that is always sitting.
Gentlemen, our game works like this. The idea is to first give away a letter that you think is NOT in the puzzle. If you're right, you can then take a letter that you think IS in the puzzle. If you're right about that as well, you can then take a guess at solving it.
If, by chance, the letter you give away actually IS in the puzzle, you lose your turn and your opponent gets a free guess at it, followed by his regular turn.
You can also simply guess at it immediately rather than giving or taking letters, but your turn ends right there if you're wrong.
This first puzzle is worth $1,000 plus $100 for every unrevealed letter that remains when it's solved. This puzzle has two words, a 6-letter first word and a 4-letter second word, so at the moment, it's worth a total of $2,000. I think that covers it.
We always begin with our champion, so Matt, you can guess at it for two grand or if you don't know it, please give a letter away that you think is NOT in the puzzle.

That's a common letter found in many puzzles, but not this one unfortunately. So no letter revealed means no guess.
Nels, it's still worth two thousand if you know it now, otherwise, please give your first letter away.

N as in Nels. Yes, there is one N in the first word that goes here.

For nineteen hundred dollars and a one-game lead, do you know what a cow that is always sitting is Nels?

Nels gives away the U and in this case, it may prove costly for him as there is one of them in the first word here.

So it's a free guess for Matt if he knows it, followed by his normal turn.
For $1,800 Matt, do you know what a cow that is always sitting is?
