We crowned and retired a new champion on the previous episode of Top Card as James Greek won almost $100,000 in cash and prizes. We need three new contestants. Those who played in Episodes 6 & 7 are waitlisted.

Having played in the 6th episode, you are waitlisted. However, (since it's summer) if I don't get other players by 11:59:59 pm EDT Thursday, I will let you play. Not a problem. Either way it's fine.

Looking back at Episode 6, Michael Clifford also played in that episode. Since he confessed to cheating in the games he played, I have no reason to doubt that he also cheated on "Top Card". His wins and earnings have been vacated. Matt, since I find you lost unfairly due to Michael's cheating, I will allow you to play in Episode 8. Having that said, we'll need one more player.

Great! We have John, Matt, and Jon. Would each of you tell me a little about yourselves in a PM, and I will PM you the questions for round one. Since we have no champion, we will do a tossup in round one.

Announcer Dan Jensen: Previously, on "Top Card"...
(Theme music plays) (Cut to the contestants) Dan: These three contestants will try for the same feat today on TOP CARD! Here is the host of Top Card, Joe Emerson!! (Applause)
Me: (Comes down the stairs, bows and waves at the audience) I thank you very much for that warm welcome! As you saw at the top of the show, we had our first big winner in the bonus round. James Greek defeated the reigning champion, Clément Couvrer, who himself was going for an undefeated run. Then, James found the right cards and drove home in a luxury car, lots of cash and sumptuous prizes. Some say it was thanks to a good luck charm in the form of my lovely co-host, Part Lee Menning, part Summer Bartholomew, none of that Sally Julian: Leslie Banks! (Applause, Leslie comes down the stairs and curtsies.)
Me: Yesterday was very exciting.
Leslie: It sure was. I am still in shock that he won it all, but I'd love to do it again!
Me: Me too! However, we need to know who is playing today.
Leslie: Of course. Our first contestant is aspiring writer and video game enthusiast. Meet John Lopez. (Applause)
Me: Greetings, Jon. What genre of writing piques your interest, if any?

Well, I vary from genre to genre really, though I mostly stick with action oriented stories.

Me: There will be a lot of action today on this show. Can you feel it? (Audience gets pumped) Good luck to you!
Leslie: Our next contestant is a supermarket council...er I mean (starts breaking out into laughter)
Me: Good grief, Leslie! I think you just made a new career--a supermarket counselor. (audience laughs)
Leslie: (wipes away a tear from all the laughing) Let me try this again. He is a supermarket clerk from Council Bluffs, Iowa. Please welcome Matt Ringgenberg. (applause)
Me: If he looks familiar, it's because we invited him back. There was an irregularity on his previous appearance; in all fairness, here he is again. I also heard you recently won a gold medal in the Special Olympics. (applause) Would you care to tell us more?

Me: Congratulations and welcome back. Good luck on today's show.
Leslie: Last, but certainly not least, he's a test prep instructor from South Carolina who is interested in music and travel. Meet Jon Darrall.
Me: Welcome, Jon. Where is your ideal travel spot?

Ideally, I'd love to visit some of the countries of the Far East, but my favorite place I've visited so far is London, England. I am heading to the Dominican Republic this Summer and need some spending cash!

Good luck to you today as you try to win that cash! (applause, heads back to podium as Leslie goes next to her deck of cards) If you win a round, you win $1000. Get a 21 in a round, and the bonus increases to $2100. To win the round, you must answer questions correctly from these categories. You will have a decision to either keep the card behind the category or exchange it with the top card on Leslie's deck. If at any time you fear going over 21, you may freeze. However, should a contestant get a better score than you, they win the round. Normally, the champion picks the first card. However, since we don't have a reigning champion, we will do a toss up question. Hands on your buzzers. Jay, Jebidiah, or Jojo; What is Bart Simpson's middle name? BUZZCODE: 60 John L: 87 Matt: 21 Jon D: 35 (DING!) Me: Jonathan? Jon D: Jay (same as his father...Homer Jay Simpson). (Old WOF Long Buzzer)Me: Sorry, that's not correct. (DING!) John? John L: Jojo. (applause) Me: Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart, created his middle name of Jojo, or so the legend goes. John gets control of the board. Go ahead and select from the following:

Me: Hands on your buzzers, please. Coca-Cola, Pepsi, or RC: When druggist and chemist John Pemberton invented this beverage in Columbus, Georgia, in 1886, he referred to it as "Esteemed Brain Tonic and Intellectual Beverage." What do we call it? BUZZCODE: 38 John L: 9 Matt: 84 Jon D: 53 (DING!) Me: Jonathan? Jon D: Coca-Cola. (Applause) Me: Refreshingly correct, unless you're trying to find your name on one of those dad-burn bottles. Then it's stressful. Let's see the first card: The six of hearts; Jonathan, do you wish to keep it or exchange it with the top card? (Audience yells out suggestions)

Me: Leslie, it looks like he wants a ten or an ace. What's in the cards? Leslie: As they say, slow and steady wins the race. Me: Not what you were expecting, but who knows? There may be better cards down the road. Jonathan, please select the next category.

John L and Jon D: the buzzcode was 62 for this question. Both of your codes were equidistant from the random.org selected buzzcode. Matt passed on this question. Therefore, I have a new buzzcode for this question. I need you two to send me your new buzzcode via PM for this question by 11:59:59 PM EDT tonight.

Since John L. was the only one that resubmitted a buzz code, he will get the question to himself. The British Union Jack can be found in the flag of which US state? OLD BUZZCODE: 62 John L: 75 (TIE) Matt: Pass Jon D: 49 (TIE) NEW BUZZCODE: 11 John L: 49 (DING) Matt: Ineligible Jon D: Pass John L: Hawaii. (applause) Me: That is correct! Let's say aloha to your card...... (applause)
Me: That most-feared card in Hearts, but it can very well be a good card here. What would you like to do with that queen? (Audience is one-sided)

Which automobile was first introduced as a "people's automobile" in 1937? BUZZCODE: 86 John L: 37 (DING!) Matt: Pass Jon D: 36 Me: John? John: Volkswagen Me: We'll take it. (Applause) Volkswagen or Volkswagen Beetle were acceptable. If we find an ace, you will win the round and $2100. (Audience is pumped up). Let's see the card.... (Audience groans) It's a 5. Do you keep the 5 or take the top card? (Audience makes suggestions)

Leslie, we turn to you. John is looking for an ace. If you have it, he will go to the championship round with $2100 in his pocket. What do you have? Leslie: Blackjack! (Sustained bell, applause and theme starts) Me: Congratulations, John, you win the first round. I suppose one could say it was all in the cards. (audience groans) Jon and Matt, fear not, as you two will have a chance to join John in the championship round. Whoever wins the championship round could play Top Card Plus for a Ford Mustang worth over $46,000. (NBC oohs and aahs) Don't go away.

(Cold open) Welcome back! We have Jon and Matt here facing off to see who will john Join Lopez....er I mean join John Lopez-- (mild laughter) See what you did, Leslie? (Leslie shrugs her shoulders) Me: Ahem. Let's get serious. One of you two will advance to the championship round to determine who plays Top Card Plus for the potential for thousands of dollars in cash and prizes. We shan't waste any more time. Hands on buzzers for this tossup. Name the continent with the fewest countries. BUZZCODE: 3 Jon: 40 (DING!) Matt: 86 Me: Jon rang in. Jon: Antarctica. (applause) Me: That is exactly right, with a whopping total of zero countries. Jon, you earn the right to start round two. Go ahead and select from one of these categories.
