We're starting a new game of Lucky Numbers. GameShowNetwork Mark Liotta returns with two big win and $201,018 in cash. We're seeking Mark's next opponent. Regular waiting rules are now in effect. Please see www.DougMorris.net/lucky for more details. Now here's the question. Before the show, One of our production assistance rolled six British money dice. The numbers on the dice have been mulitplied by £25 each (meaning the number 2 has been replaced with £50; the number 6 has been replaced with £150).
What was the total value of the roll? Given the mathematics, please make sure your answer is higher than £150, lower than £925, and in increments of £25. Please PM dougmorrisontheair (that's me) in 24 hours from now.

Okay, here's the roll. Three 100s, a 125, a 50, and a 25 should come out to 500 quid. (ding) And it does. Who's the closest? £450 djshadowwolf420
It's Shederick. Lucky Numbers -- coming up in a bit.

WABC - NEW YORK CITY Staff announcer: Live with Kelly and Mark -- weekday mornings at 9. (opening theme plays)Bill Kennedy: It's time to play -- Lucky Numbers. Ladies and gentlemen -- Doug Morris. (audience cheers) Thank you, Bill Kennedy and helloooooo, everybody. Welcome to Lucky Numbers. Our contestants test their luck with the numbers -- by rolling these unpredictable dice to uncover words, names, and common expressions. The sooner they can identify them correctly, the more money they will win. At the end of the game, the winning contestant rolls for lots of cash and amazing prizes in our main event. (audience cheers)Our two-time champion racked up another big payoff in the main event -- but has yet to clean house. Will this be the day today's winner takes it all? Please make welcome our challenger, Shederick Weatherspoon Jr. -- and our champion, with total winnings of $201,018 in cash, Mark Liotta. (audience cheers)Shederick, warmest of welcomes to the dice table. Please tell us about yourself.

Thank you for serving in the guard and at the plant. Good luck to you today.
Mark, two new cars so far and other prizes. Do you think the third time will be the charm at the main event?

Indeed, the dice can be unpredictable. Let's see how unpredictable they will be. Good luck, everyone. Shederick, you're the challenger. You'll start us shortly after we load in this puzzle. (chime sfx)Now we've got ten lucky numbers up there. Behind the numbers is the identity of a person, place, thing, or other common expression. While the numbers are in no particular order, the letters that are behind the numbers are always in their correct spots. The sooner you can solve, the more money you can win. Each puzzle's starting value in this first round is $1500. We take away $100 for each letter revealed. Shederick, please be our guest -- and roll away. (audience cheers as...) (Shederick rolls)And you're starting with a 5. Shederick, in this game, you may select the 5 -- or choose more than one number that adds up to the combination of 5.

Just the 5
|
|
|
Post by dougmorrisontheair on May 1, 2024 18:16:14 GMT -5
(ding)Just the 5 gives us an I. Shederick, you may take a guess for $1400 or roll again. Remember, anytime you make a mistake -- including rolling a combination that cannot be played -- you lose control of the game. Your opponent then gains control and automatically gets the letter courtesy of the highest remaining number on the board.

Roll the bones

Post by dougmorrisontheair on May 2, 2024 7:14:55 GMT -5
(audience cheers as...) (Nels rolls)And you've rolled another combination of 5. You may take the 1 and 4 -- or the 2 and 3.

2 and 3

|
|
Post by dougmorrisontheair on May 2, 2024 18:08:03 GMT -5
(ding) An H and an L -- and the danger zone is open. Oddly enough, rolls of 2 and 3 are unlucky, Shederick. You may guess for $1200, roll again, or pass the dice to our champion.

(buzz)Incorrect -- but a good guess. Mark, this means you get control of the game. Now the highest remaining number of 10 is automatically revealed for you. (ding)And it's a D. The unlucky rolls remain 2 and 3. Mark, you may guess for $1100, roll, or pass the dice back to Shederick.

(audience cheers as...) (Mark rolls)And you get a 6 this time.

6 by itself

Post by dougmorrisontheair on May 3, 2024 17:56:53 GMT -5
(ding)I just realized that was your only move. In any event -- 6 gives us an I -- and 6, obviously, joins the 3 and 2 among unlucky rolls. Mark, guess for a grand, roll again, or pass the dice to Shederick?

Roll

Post by dougmorrisontheair on May 3, 2024 20:01:26 GMT -5
Going for it. (audience cheers as...) (Mark rolls)It's a 5. And -- definitely -- the only way to play this is the 1 and the 4. So let's do that. (ding)The 1 gives us a C and a completed word. The 4 gives us a U. Mark, as a child of four can plainly see, the only rolls that *work* are 7, 8, and 9. All other rolls are unlucky. You may guess for $800, roll again, or pass to Shederick.

Post by dougmorrisontheair on May 4, 2024 8:09:42 GMT -5
Okay, Shederick. Dice are yours. Looking for a 7, 8, or 9. (audience cheers as...) (Shederick rolls) (audience groans) (buzz)Five won't work. So, Mark, you're back in control. The highest remaining number of 9 gives you... (ding)...another vowel -- the A. Mark, only rolls that *work* are 7, and 8. All other rolls are unlucky. You may guess for $700, roll again, or pass again to Shederick.

JULIA CHILD

Post by dougmorrisontheair on May 4, 2024 19:17:11 GMT -5
(ASB win cue plays; audience applause) That's it. $700 in your bank, Mark -- yours to keep no matter how the game ends. (chimes; audience cheers) And now here's a chance to bank more money. That sound in the main game triggers the first of three follow-up questions in our game. This one's worth $500. Mark, you'll play it first since you solve the puzzle. Answer this correctly and you'll bank the five bills. Miss -- and Shederick will have a chance to capitalize. So, Mark, for $500 more... On her television programs, Julia Child most likely signed off by saying which one of these French phrases: "bon appétit", "bonne chance", or "bon voyage"?

Julia was a native of Southern California but specialized in French cuisine and hosted the TV series "The French Chef". So, naturally, her closing phrase would be, "This is Julia Child. Bon appétit!" You're right. (audience cheers)Mark's up to $1200. Shederick, you'll have a chance to get on the board -- when Lucky Numbers returns. (commercial cue plays; audience applauds)

(HR87 theme plays) A source for many of the puzzles and questions we use on Lucky Numbers is the 22-volume World Book Encyclopedia -- which includes the index volume and research guide. Our players always receive great welcoming gifts. Bill, please tell us about one of them. (scattered laughter from crew) Bill: Oh it's a great gift -- a weekend stay for two at the fabulous Pechanga Resort and Casino -- located just a few miles south of Temecula, California. The weekend stay also includes $300 in meal credits and an extra $500 in cash -- compliments of Lucky Numbers and the Pechanga Resort and Casino. Bill: We'll be back with more of Lucky Numbers -- after this message.

(ASB cue plays; audience applauds) We're back. Let's resume Round 1 of Lucky Numbers. Mark's leading $1200 to nothing. Shederick wants to collect some money with this next puzzle. (chime sfx) And it's another ten-letter puzzle with a fresh $1500 in the pot. Shederick, please roll those dice. (audience cheers as...) (Shederick rolls)And -- low roll to start -- 3.
