Roll

Post by dougmorrisontheair on Feb 16, 2024 8:16:21 GMT -5
(audience cheers as...) (Nels rolls)And the last roll of the round is a 2 and a 4... ...or a 6. Nels, this roll is playable -- but barely. You may play the 2 and 4 in the bottom row -- or play the sum and take a 6 in the bottom or middle row.

(Shelly touches screen)Completing another word for an A... (Shelly touches screen) ...and an E. Nels, you may guess the bottom row's clue if you'd like. Since we're out of rolls, if you're wrong or want to bypass a guess, we'll be in play-or-pass mode concurrently with the next name game.

Pass

Post by dougmorrisontheair on Feb 19, 2024 17:23:41 GMT -5
Okay, as we leave the board as it is, here's the situation about play-or-pass mode. At least one roll beyond doubles cannot be played. Whenever that happens, the roll is just as lousy as a double -- meaning your opponent gets control of the dice and gains a free letter. So if you have a feeling the dice will go cold on you, you may pass the dice. In fact, the winner of the next name game will have the option to roll or pass the dice. So keep that in mind as we bring in the next name game. (FF reveal sfx)Seven-letter answer for this question. Who helped the United States of America get on a roll -- when he made a big name for himself? (ding)
(Nels and Kevin, please PM me your buzz code from 1-100, your answer, and your decision to play or pass.)

(dings; audience applause) That's it. Kevin, with that clue, you have a chance to win the game, advance to Level 4, *and* pick up an extra hint in Big 6. With that clue, what's the solution to our puzzle?

I'll guess Sheldon Cooper.

I used to watch The Big Bang Theory regularly. I knew his name because of that episode where Sheldon played Words With Friends with Stephen Hawking.

Ah, "Big Bang" great show. And one of our sidebar games is based on... Crew: (in unison) ROCK PAPER SCISSOR LIZARD SPOCK! (audience laughs and applauds)And, Kevin, time permitting, we'll let you play that game. First, we'll get to Big 6. But first, we need to reveal the rest of the clues. Jim Parsons and Iain Armitage play the same role across "The Big Bang Theory" and "Young Sheldon". That role being Sheldon Cooper. (Candice places dice near Kevin's buzzer) And for the curious, had anyone guessed "Young Sheldon", we would have to accept that as a correct solution since Iain Armitage stars as Sheldon, Jim Parson narrates as the adult Sheldon and they share the same role there. So with that, Nels, unfortunately, that's your second loss. So we have to say farewell. But we say farewell with fine gifts and all this applause from this wonderful audience. (audience cheers)(Nels and Candice walk arm in arm stage right) Okay, Kevin, for reaching Level 4, you're now taking this money roll for $10,000 a point. This determines the maximum value of Big 6. Doubles are allowed. So a double six means we'll play Big 6 for up to $120,000. (audience cheers)Good luck and let's see some high numbers. (audience cheers as...) (Kevin rolls)(cha-ching) (audience cheers)It's a 1 and a 6 for a $70,000 game of Big 6 -- and -- we already saw Wally briefly. Let's bring him into On A Roll formally. A nice warm welcome for Wally. (audience cheers)(fade to Wally) Wally, what's the good word today? (FF reveal sfx) (audience laughs)Oh course. Wally, may we have the numbers for Big 6, please. (FF reveal sfx) Thanks, Wally. Kevin, you know how Big 6 works. The dice faces accordingly hide the letters that spell out your Big 6 word. Much like the main game, you're going to try to uncover as many letters in the Big 6 word as you possibly can. Now, Wally's about to give us a hint. Wally, may we have the hint, please? Star Trek. That means the word is related to the Star Trek franchise; not limited to the original series. And this word may or may not be a proper now. Now, because you solved the earlier puzzle with one clue fully revealed, you earned an extra hint. Wally, the extra hint, please. (FF reveal sfx) (scattered cheers) TNG's captain. I'll clarify TNG stands for The Next Generation. Now, much like the earlier game, you get four rolls of the dice. What's different here is if you roll two different numbers, you may only take one of the two numbers you rolled -- and you can never play the sum. After your first roll, if you can correctly solve the Big 6 word, you win $70,000. (audience cheers)If you need a second roll, the value of the word drops to $10,000. For each additional roll, we cut the value in half. Candice's rushing back to hand you the dice. And you -- are on a roll. (audience cheers as...) (Kevin rolls)Starting with a 3 and a 5. Would you like the third or fifth letter?

PICARD.

Post by dougmorrisontheair on Feb 24, 2024 21:05:37 GMT -5
(audience cheers)If that's right, you win $70,000. If not, I'm on the next bus to Overland Park. Wally, for $70,000, is it PICARD? (dings; win theme plays; audience cheers)Bingo! Man oh man. You were about due for a big win. You finally got a big win. Congratulations, Kevin. Now we owe you a chance to play Lucky 7. We'll do that after the commercial break. But, we have some time to spare. As you know, "Young Sheldon" is in the midst of its farewell season -- and with it, "The Big Bang Theory" franchise likely goes with it. So, we want to send it out in style with one quick game of... (points to staff with both index fingers) Crew: (in unison) ROCK PAPER SCISSOR LIZARD SPOCK!(audience laughs)And Tiffany, what's Kevin playing for? (TF cue plays) (fade to Tiffany at what's usually George Gray's area) Tiffany: Kevin, I have here autographed photos of the cast of "The Big Bang Theory", plus "Young Sheldon", and "Star Trek: Picard".
Catch all 30 episodes of "Star Trek: Picard" streaming on Paramount+. And make sure you watch new episodes of this final season of "Young Sheldon" starring Iain Armitage Thursday nights at 8/7 Central on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
Now, Kevin, since we can't really put a value on these autographed photos, not only are you playing for these photos, you'll also play for... Tiffany: ....$25,000 in cash! (audience cheers)Yes indeed. And as a reminder, you're playing... (points to staff with both index fingers) Crew: (in unison) ROCK PAPER SCISSOR LIZARD SPOCK!(audience laughs)And here's a refresher of what or who defeats what or who -- from Jim Parsons. (clip from TBBT rolls)
Now in our game, Wally will randomly and secretly pick Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, or Spock. (ding)And the pick is in. Now, Kevin, you'll make your choice with our special cube. The numbers 1 through 5 have been respectively replaced with images representing Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, and Spock. The *6* has been replaced with... ...$100 and roll again. If this happens, you'll indeed win $100 and an extra roll. Anything else, and you'll be committed to Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, or Spock. (Candice hands Kevin cube) So, with that, good luck -- and you are on a roll.
(Kevin, for this sidebar game, please respond with a roll code from 1-100.)

(audience cheers as Kevin rolls) (dings; audience cheers)$100 and roll again. How nice. (ding) I know it's a mere pittance compared to $70,000 -- but let's see you win another 100. (audience cheers as Kevin rolls) No, the roll is paper. So, paper can defeat Spock disproving him -- and paper can defeat rock covering it. Let's see what Wally chose. (buzz; NYSI89 losing horns; audience groans)Scissors! Sorry about that. Even the old fashioned way, scissors cut paper. We can't give you $25,000, Kevin. But we will give you the autographed photos and let you keep the $100 cash, okay? (audience cheers)Not counting the photos, Wally, how much has our champion won? (FF reveal sfx) (audience cheers)$84,700. And when we come back, we'll play Lucky 7 -- with a golden opportunity to break into six figures. More of On A Roll -- after this. (theme plays; audience cheers)
