Ladies and gentlemen, after a hiatus, I am glad to bring back another episode of Gambit P.M.
In lieu of buzzcodes, I will once again use the electronic dice to determine which player wins control over a question.
Rather than offering a choice of 2 questions, I will simply ask the question. They will be general knowledge based again.
I will be looking for 2 new challengers for episode 11. I learned earlier today that the current Gambit P.M. champion, Michael Clifford, a.k.a. JillManasFan, has been temporarily banned from these boards.
It was my tremendous privilege to host the 2015 NGA Awards earlier this year. During the awards, Michael had won an award. Rather than gracious accept it, he said some things on the post that I considered disrespectful to all of us who take the time to create these games, and the awards show. Discretion being the better part of valor, I chose to ignore the incident at the time rather than comment on it.
When I learned earlier today of what Michael allegedly said to another member of these boards, I was extremely disappointed and quite frankly shocked. I say "allegedly" only because I myself did not see what was said specifically, but I have no reason to doubt the validity of the claims made. Furthermore, I have been witness to other incidents involving Michael on these boards which caused his warning level to increase to 25% then to 50%.
Because of this latest unfortunate incident, again which I believe happened because of past behavior, coupled with trusting the source of this information completely, as well as wanting to show my personal support for the person who was on the receiving end of Michael's latest comments that caused Michael to be temporarily banned, Michael will no longer be welcomed back to participate on Gambit P.M., nor any other games that I host in the future.
The first two individuals who would like to be challengers on this episode of Gambit P.M., please check in.
Appreciatively, Bill

Very good. It will be Matt Ringgenberg vs. Frank Driscoll. We will get started later today, but the site will be down for maintenance tomorrow, Memorial Day. Tuesday I have a nuclear stress test scheduled. I'm not sure how I will feel when I get home, but if I'm feeling well enough, we'll resume on Tuesday, otherwise it will be the day after.
Intro coming up sometime later today.

Frank Caliendo (as Kenny Williams): PM. A game of skill, fate and fortune. Frank Caliendo (as Kenny Williams): And now, from the Bob Barker Studio at CBS Television City in Hollywood, here's your host for this evening… Frank Caliendo (as Kenny Williams): Bill McDee! That's me! A very pleasant good evening to you ladies and gentlemen, this is the night time version of Gambit, a game we play with a regular deck of 52 cards. We have some interesting and unusual prizes for tonight's match plus a brand new automobile that somebody might win, as well as thousands upon thousands of dollars in cold hard cash! Of course if we have cards, we need a dealer as well, and I'm very pleased and proud to say that our lovely dealer here on Gambit P.M. is also my beloved niece, a warm greeting if you would please for the mother-to-be, Lynn Jennings! (applause) (applause) Lynn: Thank you! Good evening Uncle Bill, good evening everyone!" Bill: (off camera) Lynn, you are due in early October if I'm not mistaken. Lynn: That's correct Uncle Bill, and I plan on working right up until the end. One nice thing about this job is these giant cards hide my baby belly! (laughter from the audience) Bill: Just one of the perks of working for Merrill Heatter. Lynn do you know if it's a boy or a girl? Lynn: Yes I do, it is a girl, and her name will be Emma. Bill: That's marvelous! I am looking forward to meeting my grand niece come early October, and I am looking forward to meeting our two challengers for this evening, so Lynn, if you would please do the honors... picosong.com/q789/Lynn: Glad to Uncle Bill... Lynn: "First, he is a student from El Cerrito, California. He is a fan of all game shows and aspires to have a career in broadcast journalism. Please welcome Frank Driscoll!" (applause) Lynn: "And he is a supermarket courtesy clerk who is also involved with the Special Olympics, please welcome Matt Ringgenberg!" (applause & cheers) Lynn: "Gentlemen, Good Evening and Good Luck!" Good evening players. Let's spend a little time getting acquainted, shall we? Frank, from El Cerrito? Where is that in relation to say a big city such as here in Los Angeles?

Well, it's actually closer to the Bay Area than it is here in L.A. It's about 20 minutes from San Francisco.

See there folks? We're not just an entertaining game show, we're also educational as well! And you're wanting to become a broadcast journalist, something like a 60 minutes anchor or a network news anchorman, or more along the lines of being out in the field reporting?

Well, either one will do for me, which is why I plan to study at San Francisco State University, which is one of the best schools in the country for that field, and it's good because it's close to home.

I wish you well in those endeavors Frank as well as here on Gambit P.M. tonight.
Your challenger is Matt Ringgenberg, from Council Bluffs, Iowa, a supermarket courtesy clerk who is involved with cheer leading in the Special Olympics.
Matt, what are some of the games and events that take place at a typical Special Olympics competition?

Besides cheer and dance. There is Basketball skills and weightlifting.

It's a very worthwhile organization indeed, and the competitions are a great deal of fun, as is our little game of Gambit. Matt, good luck to you this evening.
Lynn has just broken the seal on a freshly shuffled deck of 52 cards. Ordinarily we have the new player cut the cards, but since we have 2 new players, we did a random drawing backstage and your name was drawn Frank, so you will get to cut the cards.
Please select a number higher than 0 but lower than 52. This will determine how deeply into the deck you wish the cards to be cut.

And while Frank cuts those cards at exactly 26, a few reminders to our players and viewers. We play the best 2 out of 3 game match here on Gambit P.M. The winner is the player whose hand totals closest to 21 without going over. If you go over 21, you lose and your opponent automatically wins the game by default. The winner is paid $50 multiplied by his score, with a house minimum of $500 for a game won. If either player reaches exactly 21, they automatically win the game, $1,050 plus a progressive jackpot, and it's been growing for the last episode or two now. If either player wins with any 21, they will win a bonus of... (CLANG) $1,750! And if it's a two-card 21... (CLANG) That pays double, or $3,500! (applause) In addition to that, the winner of the first game of tonight's match will play one hand of "Beat the Dealer" against Lynn for even more bonus money, and the winner of game number one will also receive a very unusual prize, and here's my good friend Frank Caliendo to tell you all about it, Frank? picosong.com/9LQ9/Frank Caliendo (as Kenny Williams): It's a music box. Frank Caliendo (as Kenny Williams): From Jonathan Charles, this burl walnut veneered rectangular lidded music box comes with finely inlaid running design of flowers and scrolls in contrasting tones. Retail value... $450! (applause) We always begin each game by revealing the first card only in the standard 52 card deck. Lynn, what's our beginning card for this first game? It's a 3 of Clubs players. I will ask a question. Each of our players have a button which they will hit to stop the randomly flashing dice. The player who has the higher rolled number will have the chance to answer the question. A correct answer earns that player $100 plus control of the card, which they can either keep for their own hand, or pass to their opponent. An incorrect answer, or taking too long to answer (48 hours) will result in your opponent automatically scoring $100 and earning control over the card instead. Here is tonight's first question contestants. Listen carefully. Located in Kentucky, what is the name of the site of the U.S. Gold Bullion Depository? www.qwizx.com/gssfx/usa/dd70-buzzin.wavFrank, it is you.

And doing so paid off for you Frank! (applause) Lynn, Frank is hoping for an 8. Can you oblige? No, it's a Queen, worth 10... Once a player's score is 12 or more, and if that score puts the player in the lead, they are given the option to freeze. Frank, since the next card could put you over, I will ask you if you'd like to freeze or continue playing. If you elect to continue, you will not be given the option to freeze again until you receive another card, and that card will have to either put you in the lead, or keep you in the lead. What do you say Frank, freeze or continue?

Gratuity is exactly right! Electing to pass the next card to Matt, anticipating that it is higher than an 8... Lynn, what is Matt's first card in this game? Oh my! Another 3! Going to be one of those days is it? Score is now 13 to 3 in favor of Frank. Another toss-up question... How many of the 50 states in the United States contain "New" as part of their name? And yet again it is Frank. Frank, please provide your answer as well as if you wish to keep or pass the next card.

Four is correct, New Hampshire, New Jersey (my home state), New Mexico and New York. Frank is once again passing the card to you Matt. Lynn, what is Matt's next card please? (some gasps from the audience) Well that was a wise pass that time Frank! That 10 would have put you over 21! And we now have a tie at 13 to 13, just like Super Bowl V back in January 1971 until the last 5 seconds! Since that card resulted in a tie score, Matt does not get the option to freeze. We simply play on. Control of the next card becomes very important, as does intuition. Here's the next $100 toss-up question gentlemen... What Massachusetts town shares its name with a type of grapes? Matt has the high roll this time! Matt, please provide your answer and indicate if you want to keep the next card or pass it to Frank.

Concord is correct for $100! (applause) $100 for that correct answer Matt. Matt has elected to pass the next card to Frank. If this next card is 7 or less, Frank will be given the option to freeze. If it's an 8, he'll not only win the game, but the Any 21 Jackpot worth $1,750. Anything more than 8 and Matt will win game number 1, another $650, plus the $450 music box, and earn the right to play our Beat the Dealer game for $3,000. All of that riding on the turn of this next card, Lynn... picosong.com/fTwB/TOO MUCH! And the game goes to Matt! picosong.com/3zeF/So after being locked out during each of the first four questions, Matt got in there at just the right moment, made the right gambit and won for himself another $650 in cash, plus the $450 music box, for a total thus far of $1,200 cash and prizes. Well played Matt. Frank, of course you keep the $400 for the four correct answers you had in toss-up questions, and take heart, for quite often during our brief 2 week run, players who lost game #1 end up coming from behind to take the match. We'll see if that's the case again tonight or not. Meantime, Lynn will carefully clear the boards, and we'll set up for our "Beat the Dealer" game, which we'll play, right after a few words of interest. Won't you please watch? Thank you.

(applause) In a moment, Matt Ringgenberg is going to play "Beat the Dealer", but before he does, I just want to thank all of you who are watching, have watched, and are continuing to watch Gambit P.M. and to remind you that Gambit is twice as nice because there is also an A.M. edition featuring my good friend Tony Lane. Also, if you like word puzzles and dice, then you definitely want to be "On A Roll". Greg Palmer and his sidekick Wally host all the fun and excitement, where one roll of the dice could win contestants tens of thousands of dollars in cash in an instant. Also, there is MY new CBS Daytime show, the return of a classic game from the mid 1970s, a game where all of the answers are right in front of you, all you have to do is find them, it's the return of "NOW YOU SEE IT". And of course there is the venerable "The Price is Right" as well, so please watch them all, or DVR them because it's a great deal of fun and excitement here on CBS Daytime! (applause) And there's a great deal of excitement in the air on CBS nighttime as well right here on Gambit P.M. Matt, you are about to play one hand of Blackjack against our lovely dealer Lynn. The remaining cards in the same deck we played game number one with are still in play. Lynn will begin dealing you cards to form your hand. Once you reach a score of twelve or higher, I will ask you if you wish to freeze or continue. If you continue and the next card you draw puts you over 21, you lose. If the next card you draw gives you exactly 21, then you will win the Beat the Dealer jackpot which tonight is worth… (clang) Three-thousand dollars! (applause) If the jackpot is not won, we will add $500 to it for our next program. Once you freeze, Lynn will begin to draw cards to form her hand. Lynn must hit on any hand totalling 16 and below. Lynn must freeze on any hand totalling 17 and above. In the event you and Lynn should tie, you won't win the jackpot, but you will still receive one-thousand dollars, and the jackpot will still grow by $500 for our next program. Here is your first card Matt, good luck! An 8. Oh Frank, if that had only come one card earlier! Lynn, next card please... Hmm, a 7... Matt, that gives you a 15. If you elect to take another card, you may very well go over. It's up to you. Do you wish to freeze or continue?

Matt says 15 is enough for him. Well one thing is for certain, we will not have a tie here today. Time for Lynn to start dealing cards to form her hand. Remember, even if she gets 15 or 16, she must continue drawing, as the dealer must hit on any score below a 17 and must stand on 17 and above. First card... A 5, not a very good card for the dealer! Next card Lynn... An 8! Giving her a very vulnerable total of 13... if Lynn's next card is a 9 or more, Matt, you will win $3,000. Lynn, let's see... (audience gasping) A deuce?!?! Wow... Matt, a 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 loses for you, a 7 or more wins for you, and so help me if the next card is an Ace, I'm going home! (laughter) Lynn, deal it up... picosong.com/fTwB/A 7 is TOO MUCH! And Matt has just won $3,000!!! picosong.com/3zeF/Well Matt, you did it the hard way, but you did it nevertheless. A very nice $3,000 cash win for our match leader. Tomorrow night the Beat the Dealer jackpot will reset and start at $2,500 once again. While Lynn clears the board and escorts Frank back to his seat, we'll take some time out for these messages. Won't you please watch? Thank you!
