(I was going to add this to the lottery game thread -- but due to historical significance, it's best to start a new thread here.)
If you've never watched "La Poule aux œufs d'or" from the Canadian province of Québec, now would be a good time to start. Depending on the translation, it means "The Hen with/That Lays the Golden Eggs" in English. In an episode due to drop on the Loto-Québec YouTube channel any moment now (watch for a 27-ish-minute clip with "today's date" / October 15, 2023), "le gros lot," or progressive grand prize jackpot is coming in at $1.1 million. If Wikipedia is accurate, the latest should be a historic episode -- even if "le gros lot" goes unclaimed. Wiki and a Canadian Newswire release note the biggest grand prize payoff, without adjusting for inflation, was $1.075 million in 2004. Even if you don't know a lot of French, you should see some similarities between "La Poule aux œufs d'or" and "Treasure Hunt" (just without klunks and torturous sketches).

LOL at the "tortuous sketches" comment. And again this is eerie, just 2 short days ago I was watching a few minutes of Geoff's Treasure Hunt on youtube.

As of this writing, the $1.1 million episode still has not dropped. Keep an eye on it. Maybe subscribe?
"La Poule aux œufs d'or", to the best of my knowledge, is one of only two lottery TV game shows in production in North America.
The other: "Cash Explosion" in my adopted home state of Ohio. Unlike Brian Williams, I was in Ohio when CE started.

Latest episode of "La Poule aux œufs d'or, actually dated October 29, 2023, dropped earlier this morning on the Loto-Québec YouTube channel. No one won "le gros lot" in the October 22 episode. So the progressive jackpot coming into the October 29 episode is at another record setter -- $1,150,000. After watching that episode, take a look at this... ...it's an apparent spin-off entitled "Chasse aux trésors" which, according to Google Translate, means "Treasure Hunt" in English. Given the motif of the set and the theme music, it is hard to disagree with the translation. From what I can gather, main game contestants look for buried treasure on a map (grid of 36 numbers). When a player is in control, the contestant must find a treasure chest or a nearby key. Once either a chest or key is found, "diagonal moves" are removed from contention -- and the contestant chooses the number either above, below, to the left, or the right of the chest/key. Failing to find a key or chest awards money. The first to find two chest/key combos moves to the championship game for a possible $100,000 payoff.

No one won "le gros lot" in the October 29 episode. So the progressive jackpot coming into the November 5 episode is at another record setter -- $1,175,000.
I'd seen another Loto-Québec game show that reminded me of the original version of "Cash Explosion" -- but three contestants were racing up and down (preferably up) a track. The show also involved genies and magic lamps. When I find it, I'll share in this thread.

Addendum: And here it is -- "Lampe Magique". I'm honestly trying to figure out the object of the game. Other than avoid hazards on the track, I've honestly got nothing.

Latest episode of "La Poule aux œufs d'or", actually dated November 12, 2023, dropped earlier this morning on the Loto-Québec YouTube channel.
No one won "le gros lot" in the November 5 episode. So the progressive jackpot coming into the November 12 episode is at another record setter -- $1,200,000. Spoiler alert: One contestant finds a "Coq d'or" card in this episode -- meaning that all amounts in the 24 (or less) eggs double -- including "le gros lot" for a possible $2,400,000 payoff. But does it actually lead to $2.4M?

Latest episode of "La Poule aux œufs d'or", actually dated November 19, 2023, dropped earlier this morning on the Loto-Québec YouTube channel.

For the curious, yes, there have been thoughts about making this into a net game. This may be the closest thing we get to a reboot of "Treasure Hunt".

Latest episode of "La Poule aux œufs d'or", actually dated December 3, 2023, dropped earlier this morning on the Loto-Québec YouTube channel. No one won "le gros lot" in the November 26 episode. So the progressive jackpot coming into the December 3 episode is at another record setter -- $1,275,000. At the risk of spoiling, it appear the historic rising jackpot hasn't garnered media attention. Compare that to any news of Mega Millions or Powerball in the U.S. when the top prize is, say, $400 million or much more. Unfortunately there's this.

Latest episode of "La Poule aux œufs d'or", actually dated December 10, 2023, dropped earlier this morning on the Loto-Québec YouTube channel.
No one won "le gros lot" in the December 3 episode. So the progressive jackpot coming into the December 10 episode is at another record setter -- $1,300,000.
So I did some math. "Le gros lot" starts at $150,000 -- and grows by $25,000 for each episode it goes unclaimed. That means Loto-Québec has added $1,150,000 to the current jackpot -- and it hasn't been won in more than 45 weekly episodes. That's nearly a year.
I don't remember "The New Treasure Hunt" going more than 45 shows without someone winning "the grand daddy of them all (the top prize of $25,000)." And I've seen just about all the reruns on CBN Cable back in the day. Back then, a contestant had as many as 30 surprise packages to choose from.
In the 1981-82 revival, as many as 66 with (sometimes) a progressive jackpot that capped off at $50,000.

No one won "le gros lot" in the December 10 episode. So the progressive jackpot coming into the December 17 episode is at another record setter -- $1,325,000.
Some notes...
\ This episode had a guest announcer (addendum: Mathieu DuFour filled in for Richard Turcotte).
\ SPOILER ALERT: The first game reached an exciting conclusion.
\ I'll try to keep this thread going through the holidays but can't promise. Next two Mondays are Christmas and New Year's. Happy Holidays.

(Late post due to Christmas. Hope you had a merry one.)
Latest episode of "La Poule aux œufs d'or", actually dated December 24, 2023, dropped on Christmas morning on the Loto-Québec YouTube channel.
No one won "le gros lot" in the December 17 episode. So the progressive jackpot coming into the Christmas Eve episode is at another record setter -- $1,350,000.
Some notes...
\ Regular announcer Richard Turcotte is back. Mathieu DuFour filled in for Richard in the previous episode.
\ The aformentioned "le gros lot" is roughly equal to $1,000,000 and change in American funds ($1,022,915.25 as of this writing, according to Google). My hunch, going forward, is *every* contestant will decline, to use "(The New) Treasure Hunt" terms, the "cash award envelope" from the spinning egg to go for what's in the selected egg. (The highest possible bribe from the spinning egg is $40,000; spoiler alert: at least one player is presented with a $40,000 bailout.) IIRC, all Canadian lottery winnings are paid tax free. So when will one ever have a chance to win more than $1,000,000?
\ "La Poule aux œufs d'or" is reportedly is taking a holiday break. The next program is scheduled it air January 14, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.

Sidebar note: I play Live Play Bingo in my spare time under the handle joker9472 (as a nod to the original run of "The Joker's Wild"; the digits hint debut date; two other favorites, the current version of TPiR and "Gambit", debuted the same day). LPB had a Bing O Canada promotion in which catching certain Canadian-themed animals would earn players special rewards. I noted in chat I would love to visit Montreal. A host echoed. (No nod, however, to "La Poule".)

Also, one lucky contestant got to play for double the stakes -- meaning said player could win up to $2,950,000 (more than US$2,192,000); in that same game, confetti was triggered.
But why? View -- for yourselves.

So what’s the longest drought in Quebec for not hitting the big one?
Without spoiling, we're in one right now as of last week. Best available research indicates the jackpot never went higher than $1.075 million until several episodes ago.
Wikipedia notes, "The show's biggest winner was awarded $1,075,000 on May 26, 2004, after the progressive jackpot went unclaimed for 38 straight shows." It cites this news release.
