So during episode #11, Kourtney had $2,500 during the final hand, the "Major Wager" hand. He risked $2,000 and the center card that came up was an Ace. This was after having an Ace high, Deuce low split, almost a guaranteed winner.
Under the current rules, during the last hand only, if the center card is either an Ace or a 2, the player loses his/her wager.
Card Sharks kind of inspired me to implement this rule.
In the past, during the latter portion of Jim Perry's NBC run and throughout the Eubanks & Rafferty runs, any tie (push) at the Money Cards meant no win and no loss. That, at least for me, made the Big Bet anti-climactic because you knew at worst, if the player had an Ace or a Deuce that the player's bank total was going to stay the same.
For this reason, I introduced that Ace/2 rule for the final hand in Pot Limit, to add some element of tension and suspense for game play.
To counter-balance that "house edge" for the final hand, I made it where a tie (push) during the first six hands of play will still win the player the wager, so it's only a win/lose scenario.
Furthermore, the Major Wager hand, if a player has a "push" with cards other than a 2 or Ace, that would end in a push rather than a win or a loss.
It's just amazing to me how often that final hand has had an Ace or 2 come up as the final card.
Do you like and understand my reasoning for having done this? I'd like to hear honest opinions about it from past, present, and hopefully future contestants who have not played it yet.
Appreciatively and respectfully,
Bill
