On this date, September 19th, 40 years ago, Press Your Luck with Peter Tomarken first debuted on the CBS Television Network.
The announcer was Peter's teammate in the far too short-lived "Hit Man" on NBC, the illustrious one, Rod Roddy.
Sadly neither Peter nor Rod are with us any longer in person, but will forever be with us in spirit.
The updated version on ABC is a nice way to carry on the tradition of the original series, while having even bigger bucks as well as a great bonus game.
You might say the show has come full circle, as it began on ABC as another show called Second Chance, hosted by Jim Peck.
Same gameboard but no flashing slides, and devils instead of whammies. The question rounds were played a bit differently too.
The Carruthers Company re-did the concept in '83 and came up with a far superior game to be sure.
Happy 40th birthday to Press Your Luck, and yes, even to all of you nasty little whammies, happy birthday to you as well!
