"Showcase Showdown" - Partial Show Test

Thank you ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Showcase Showdown! This is a spin-off show of "The Price is Right" and pays off thousands of dollars for your bidding knowledge, but not of items - of Showcases! In a moment, we will present a Showcase to all of you here in our studio audience and you will have 48 seconds to bid on it (NOTE: hours in real time) using the keypad attached to your seats out there! Here's the catch though - you don't get a description and you don't get to see the prizes - you must make your best guess at a bid just by the name alone!

For this Qualifier Showcase, overbidding is permitted because it will be the four audience members who bid closest to the actual retail price that will be our four contestants today!

- (audience cheers and applauds) -

Once you're a contestant on the show however, the classic rule of not going over will be back in play. Our four contestants will then bid on Showcases and each time, whoever is closest without going over earns a point and gets to play a pricing game! In each round, the first person to score two points wins the round and becomes a finalist. Once we have three finalists, they will spin the classic Price is Right Big Wheel to determine which two of those three contestants wind up in our final Showcase at the end of the show.

So, on this show, "Showcase Showdown" has multiple meanings but the same result - one of you out there will wind up a very big winner at the end of our show today!

- (audience cheers and applauds) -

Alright audience, here's what you are bidding on!

We have a pair of Sony stereo headphones, a set of three Mario Monkey lamps and a total of four trips! In each case, the origin of the trip is Los Angeles, California and they are all trips for two people! One is a limo trip where you are driven to San Diego, California while the other three are round-trip coach airfares and six-night stays. One is to Barbados, one to Miami, Florida and one to Zurich, Switzerland! For all four trips, dinner each night and breakfast the next morning are included!

Which of you are about to become our four contestants? Your 48-second bidding time starts...now!

Rich: "And finally, missing it by only $323 with a bid of $25,000... IMMANUEL TIMS...COME ON DOWN!"

- (continued cheering and applause for Immanuel) -

Rich: "You're the four contestants today on Showcase Showdown!"

Gentlemen, congratulations! You four get a shot at winning thousand of dollars in prizes today, but it begins by earning points in our Beatdown game by doing exactly what you just did - bidding on a Showcase! Two differences this time though! This time, there are points on the line and this time, you cannot go over!

The goal is to earn two points and the first of you that does that will be our first finalist today! You do it by being the closest to the actual retail price of the Showcase without going over! That earns you a point and an opportunity to play a pricing game! One thing though, if you are the closest and you are within $250 of the retail price without going over, that is worth 2 points and makes you an automatic finalist with just the one bid!

Well, you're the bee's knees so far on this show as my Mother used to say! Missed the Qualifier by only three hundred and change and off here by about eight grand which is pretty good considering the amount involved there. Poor Mr. McDee bought himself almost exactly two Showcases that time - can we give him a point for that?

- (audience chuckles) -

My producer is shaking his head no Bill, sorry. Immanuel, great bidding so far! Tell us a bit about yourself before we proceed. It says here you are going to college with hopes for some type of career in show business, is that right?

Correct! Majoring in Tv and Film, and my main goal is to launch and produce my own talk-variety series!

Well that's fantastic! I wish you the best of luck with that and I wish you luck here as well! You've earned the first point of the day and are halfway to qualifying as a Finalist! Earning that point has also earned you the right to play a pricing game!

Now, I'm sure you are familiar with The Big Wheel from "The Price is Right" and we'll be bringing that wheel out a little later on in the show, but Immanuel, we actually have ANOTHER Big Wheel on this show, would you like to see it?

It has some long forgotten original pricing games like Double Digits and Mystery Price. It has some games that were popular back in the day that have since been retired like Add 'Em Up and Poker Game. It also has some fan-created games that you might never have seen before like Jam and Price Search! Of course, it has some of the more popular games played today like Rat Race and Plinko!

He was the closest in the Qualifier and was the closest in that first Showcase as well! All you've earned so far though is a point on the scoreboard, but now we're going to offer you a chance at some cash and prizes! How much cash you ask? Five thousand dollars!

Alright, well the idea is to eliminate the three empty boxes, one at a time, leaving the box containing the money. To help you out, we will give you clues as to which boxes you should remove. Let's show Immanuel the first clue please!

Immanuel, one of those prizes costs more than thirty-two hundred dollars. The box associated with that prize is empty, so let's get rid of that one. Which is it?

So that leaves us the box with the fridge freezer. I'll be honest, I don't know the prices but I was feeling confident that you'd won up until that last one. I've seen a lot of refrigerators priced with a one as the first of a four-digit number, so you must be thinking that fridge is more than two grand Immanuel?

Well, I think home gyms are about a grand…so I’m hoping for the best

Yep, it was that refrigerator you should have eliminated last! Oh well, it doesn't matter Immanuel, you know why? You wanted to play Punch-A-Bunch anyway!

- (audience chuckles as theme begins) -

Immanuel, not to worry, on Showcase Showdown, you are not limited to only one pricing game, so you might win a whole bunch of who knows what later on!

- (I shake Immanuel's hand as he heads back to his podium) -

He missed out on that loot but still has a one-point lead towards being a finalist! Our four players will bid on another Showcase right after we see this!

- (continued applause and theme music as we fade out) -

So, since this is a partial test show, I think I'm gonna skip ahead because this would just be rinse and repeat, bidding on Showcases and playing pricing games until three of you have scored 2 points.  I am going to make a rule change for the actual show though -- originally, my idea was to reset the scores to zero each time somebody clinches a finalist spot, but that could mean a maximum of 12 Showcases (and therefore 12 pricing games) which would be too much for one show. So, on the real show, when someone reaches 2 points, they will become a finalist and no longer bid, but the other three keep their current scores. In that case, it would be a maximum of 7 Showcases and pricing games, which given the fact there is only one session of the Big Wheel, makes more sense for an hour show.  So, that's how we'll do it.

What I'd like to do now on this test though is skip ahead to the Big Wheel, since it will work differently than normal. I need 3 finalists to do it though, so I thought to myself last night, hey since Immanuel wants to play Punch-A-Bunch, what the heck, let's play it!

So, to be clear, this I'm just doing on the fly to determine finalists, this wouldn't be part of the real show - Punch-A-Bunch itself would be, just not on the fly like this.

I'll give each of you one punch and the three highest scores will be our three test finalists to spin the Big Wheel. If we happen to have a tie for third place, we'll have a Punch Off!

There are 5 rows and 10 columns, so please give me a Row and Column number. So, top-left would be Row 1 Column 1, about center of the board would be Row 3, Column 5, bottom-right would be Row 5 Column 10, etc.
