First I want to tip two of my caps to Doug Morris and Tony Lane for their continued collaborative efforts lo these many many years hosting Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour.
It has been and continues to be a genuine joy for me to participate and to contribute in what little ways I can to the game.
Second, I want to express my gratitude for green-lighting my idea to implement the Star Wheel for the Head To Head match for the big money.
I always felt badly on the original version that only one celebrity had the 30 and rarely if ever was it Jon Bauman. And Jon seemed to be the one chosen most often to play for the bonus and most times he only had the "10". By having the wheel, all 9 panelists have an even chance of having it land on the 50, and adds to the excitement of the game I believe.
As the old saying goes "Variety is the spice of life". To that end, I'm proposing two more ideas specific for the Match Game. One part for the front game, the other for the Audience Match.
While I do consider myself rather "Old School", I count myself among perhaps the minority who actually liked the "Match-Up" part of the 1990 ABC Match Game revival. It afforded one celebrity a little bit of limelight for a brief moment. I also liked the fact that all 6 panelists got to play both rounds of the fill in the blank questions as well.
My proposed idea for the front game is as follows:
For every match made, both for the fill in the blank rounds and the Match-Up rounds, the player would score $50.
Segment 1 - Round 1 comedy question, same as always.
Segment 2 - A "Match-Up" played by both players, one at a time. Each selects one of the six celebrities and play a total of 4 Match-Up questions.
Segment 3 - Round 2 comedy question, again played by all six stars, even if they matched in Round 1. Then one more Match-Up round played by both players, again selecting any of the remaining celebrities to play it with, 4 questions again.
Perfect playing would mean $1,000 would be scored.
The player with the higher score wins the game and an additional $500 for doing so, and moves on to challenge the returning champion for Hollywood Squares. The player with the lower score still gets to keep all of their winnings as well.
AUDIENCE MATCH idea:
Two Audience Match games, one at a time.
This time the player will try to match all 3 answers on the board.
The top answer pays $500, the second most popular $300 and the 3rd most popular $200 for a total of $1,000.
Playing two Audience matches and matching all 3 answers both times would still net $2,000 for the player to be multiplied.
While I do not expect either of these changes to necessarily be adopted, I did just want to make these suggestions.
Respectfully,
Bill
