On this very date, July the 2nd, back in 1984, NBC debuted "Scrabble" starring Chuck Woolery. It was a sensational game and it's a pity that it ended when it did. How I'd love to see it come back again.
And a really big date in history, it was FIFTY years ago TO-DAY that "Match Game '73" debuted on CBS. The original Match Game from the 1960s was retooled and relocated from New York to LA.
And to this very date, half of the six original celebrity panelists who appeared on that very first show and that very first week are all still with us.
Vicki Lawrence (who sat in Brett Somers seat), Jo Ann Pflug (who sat in the "dummy" seat) and Anita Gilette (who sat in the Betty White/Fannie Flagg seat).
All 3 remaining are females interestingly enough. Jo Ann Pflug was once married to Chuck Woolery. Anita Gilette did some TV series in the 60s and 70s but is not nearly as well remembered by most, but remembered by me.
And the first champion on Match Game '73 was named Stanley, but Stanley was female!

Almost 40 years. Wow! It sure doesn't seem like it for Scrabble.
