Today is April 22nd which means today is Earth Day.
In case anyone does not remember what Earth Day is, Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year.
This year's "motto" is Let us pledge to save the Tiger, Natural Resources and Biodiversity.
There has only been 1 Earth Day TV Special. The year: 1990.
In 1990, South African freedom fighter and political leader Nelson Mandela is released from
prison after being kept behind bars for 27 due to his tireless work to end apartheid, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles released their 1st movie, and Jim Henson passed away in May unexpectedly. (R.I.P)
On 4/22/1990, The Earth Day Special aired on ABC. This special revolved around Earth Day and addressed concerns such as global warming, deforestation, and other environmental ills. This special featured an all star cast as well. Danny DeVito, Bette Midler, Neil Patrick Harris, Alex Trebek, Betty White, Robin Williams, Jim Henson (as Kermit the Frog in one of his last performances before his death), Kevin Clash, Dave Goelz, Jerry Nelson (who died in August of 2012), David Rudman.
Just to name a few of the many stars who appeared on this special.
And now it gives me great pleasure to present:
