Be our guest. (audience cheers as...) (Raymond rolls)And it's a 4 and a 5... ...or a 9. Fives are gone -- but you can play the sum of 9 -- or take a 4.

(Puala touches screen)And it's another O. Raymond, you may guess the middle clue if you'd like. A wrong guess or a pass triggers a crucial name game.

VERSUS KONG

|
Post by dougmorrisontheair on Feb 1, 2023 20:21:05 GMT -5
I would think... ...and it is. A reference to the movie title "Godzilla vs. Kong". (Lisa places dice near Frank's buzzer) As we prepare for Frank's money roll, first, we must say a fond farewell to Frank. You won just the one game -- but you picked up a nice piece of change in that victory. You'll take some fine gifts, $38,500, and all this applause. (audience cheers) (Frank and Lisa walk off stage arm in arm) Okay, Raymond, money roll time. Since you're on Level 2, this is for $5000 a point. Doubles are allowed. So that means if you roll boxcars, you'll be playing for $60,000. (audience cheers)So good luck -- and give 'em a roll. (audience cheers as...) (Raymond rolls)(cha-ching)A 6 and 2 make 8 for a $40,000 game of Big 6 -- right after this. (audience applause; theme plays) (theme plays)

[NOTE FROM DOUG: With regard to our recent Godzilla puzzle and the last clue "versus Kong", it was a reference to the movie "Godzilla vs. Kong". We spelled out "versus" in the clue -- whereas the movie title abbreviated "vs."
You may have seen the OAR pilot on Buzzr recently, which had "DR HUXTABLE", without a period after "DR", as a clue for a puzzle about a certain comedian who was popular at the time but, due to various controversies, isn't. The writers from the mid-1980s, obviously, abbreviated, "Doctor".
After hosting dozens of OAR episodes on NGC, had I known abbreviations without periods were allowed among clues, I would've included such abbreviations among clues.
Going forward, if this version of OAR does resort to clues that require periods, apostrophes, exclamation points, and other non-letter characters, we'll hide those behind numbered spaces and never block them. ("The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime" had the star key on the keyboard indicating components of the puzzle's solution were not letters of the alphabet -- but still awarded $25, $50, or $100 per appearance in the solution to the puzzle bank as if they were correctly selected letters.) Speaking of blocks, we'd only use question marks to block certain letters in clues.
Certain abbreviations and sets of initials, however, don't require periods. FBI, NASA, and, well, CBS do not require periods. We've used those without periods before -- and we'll still use them going forward.]

(theme plays; audience applause) Raymond's ready to get on a roll -- and win up to $40,000 in Big 6 with the help of -- Wally! (audience cheers)What Wednesday words of wisdom do you have for us, Wally? (FF reveal sfx)Godzilla vs. Kong ... (FF reveal sfx) (audience laughs and applauds)You're -- not wrong. Wally, may we have the numbers for Big 6, please. (FF reveal sfx) Thanks, Wally. Raymond, as you know, the dice faces accordingly hide the letters that spell out your Big 6 word. Much like the main game, you're going to try to uncover as many letters in the Big 6 word as you possibly can. Now, Wally's about to give us a hint. Wally, may we have the hint, please? (ding) Star Trek. To clarify, this Big 6 word relates in some way to an official Star Trek production. This word is not limited to the original series. The word may or may not be a proper noun. And this is a good time for us to note the final season of "Star Trek: Picard" begins February 16th on Paramount Plus. Now then, as in the main game, you get four rolls of the dice. What's different here is if you roll two different numbers, you may only take one of the two numbers you rolled -- and you can never play the sum. So if you rolled a 1 and a 4, you could have Wally reveal the first letter or the fourth letter -- but not the fifth letter. After your first roll, if you can correctly solve the Big 6 word, you win $40,000. If you need a second roll, we drop the word's value to $5000. For each roll thereafter, we cut the money in half. (Lisa hands Raymond dice) And watch out for those doubles. Any double is worthless -- and reduce your potential winnings automatically. So you've got the rules and the dice, Raymond. You -- are on a roll. (audience cheers as...) (Raymond rolls)Starting with a 2 and a 3. Would you like the second or third letter?

Second letter, please, Wally. (ding)And it's an A. Well -- can't be the aforementioned Picard -- or else we'd hear murmurs from S&P. (scattered laughter from crowd) Okay, let's tense up. One guess only for $40,000, Raymond. What is this Big 6 word?

(buzz) No guess. So let's go for $5000. Remember, you need to solve this word to play for more money in Lucky 7. (audience cheers as...) (Raymond rolls)(buzz) (audience groans)Doubles! Sorry, Raymond. Quickly we're down to $2500. Roll again, please. (audience cheers as...) (Raymond rolls)And it's a 4 and a 2. You've already taken the second letter. So, Wally, fourth letter, please. (ding)It's an S. Okay, Raymond, after this, just one roll to go. So -- might want to give this a guess. For $2500, what is this Big 6 "Star Trek" word?

(buzz) Okay. Last roll for $1250. You'll need to avoid doubles *and* a roll of a 2 and a 4. (audience cheers as...) (Raymond rolls)(buzz; NYSI89 losing horns; audience groans)Rats! Another double and that's the game. You end up with $500 with no trip to Lucky 7. Wally, just for the heck of it, what was the word? (FF reveal sfx)Ransom -- as in Commander Ransom, the character voiced by Jerry O'Connell, on "Star Trek: Lower Decks". Would you have known that if doubles didn't get in the way?

Okay, as seek an opponent for Raymond, I'll make an executive decision.
Due to this host's long absence from NGC late last year, I'll waive off the waiting period just a bit. If you did not play in Episode 52 or the first game of Episode 53 (this one), you're eligible to play the qualifying round.
So -- who's in?

I am a high school senior from Los Angeles, I love to write when I'm not busy with my studies and I have a passion for acting, a career path I choose to pursue.
I also love all things game shows, from watching some, to hosting various games with family and friends, and even creating a few of my own!

A lover of fun and games is here for fun and games. Raymond, Immanuel, good luck to you both. Let's start the fun and games with this name game. We're starting this game with an eight-letter answer to this name game question. Who got on a roll covering news in his native Canada -- before becoming a correspondent for "Dateline"?(FF reveal sfx) (ding)
(Raymond and Immanuel, please PM me a buzz code from 1-100 and your answer.)
